Zambians in the Diaspora have overwhelmingly responded towards the on-going constitution making process by submitting their input through the recently launched National Constitution Conference (NCC) website.
NCC spokesperson Mwangala Zaloumis says the website has helped Zambians living abroad to participate in the constitution making process.
Mrs. Zaloumis said in an interview that Zambians in Diaspora have since contributed meaningfully towards the making of a people driven constitution.
She noted that from the eagerness shown by Zambians living abroad, Zambians in the Diaspora are determined to see to it that Zambia has a constitution that will stand the test of time.
Mrs. Zaloumis further said the website will help to enhance the interaction between the public and the NCC secretariat.
She said the general public has responded well to the website and have been making positive contributions towards the constitution making process.
The NCC spokesperson said the website has come at a right time when there is rejuvenated interest in the constitution making process.
Mrs. Zaloumis has since encouraged the general public to access the website and enter into interaction with delegates in order to have a better understanding of the NCC proceedings.
The website which was launched on February 23 this year was meant to create a platform where members of the public could engage NCC delegates in the process of coming up with a people driven constitution.
I did not know there was a website to make contribution. I thought contributions were already done when the commissioners were visiting the provinces. Is it too late

Woman of substance don’t worry to much about the sex connotations of our constitution but the contents because even in the current form of constitution without an expression of she, but it equally covers women just like their male counterparts. However, i still believe ncc is just a money spinning machine an exercise in futility. Because if you look at the draft constitution it was beautifully done and yet all the ncc members are doing is just ripping it apart and hey they paid for it. But hey ni pazed and its politics. Come 2011 another constitution making exercise will be commenced again. So Kashimani if i were you i would not lament at not submitting to the ncc as most of this recommendation are rarely considered. God help us!!!

good to know but zambia is not ruled by zambians in diaspora. verbal contribution but all that but all that counts is implementation. most of those contributing will never come back unless you make measures that also speak for Zambians abroad. Also make laws that make our representatives (embassies) abroad act more responsibly.

The people of Zambia spoke through”The Mun’gomba Constitution Review Commission” set up by none other than our late beloved brother President Levy Patrick Mwanawasa M.H.S.R.I.P. who did not like the people’s contributions, personally, as an outstanding lawyer. What the learned Mwangala Zaloumis should be explaining to the people is what was wrong with the Mun’gomba CRC with its recommendations that we have had to spend money on the NCC.
Stripper I believe we should also contribute to the constitution because if we let these biased chaps they will just throw our interestes in air. You know even if I have British citizenship I have some cattle at the village. I do not want to lose them. We are living in countries with better constitutions and can pump sense into people’s heads to see the benefits of living in a different way. Some people on at home are brain washed and they do not know what is good for them, they just dance for politicians at airport instead if working hard for themselves and their children. 29 Sripper, there is nothing wrong with you, in the diaspora, making contributions, but I agree with you that we are just a small number outside the country and yet the learned Zaloumis seems to be placing undue importance on the contributions from the people living in the diaspora. One item only ‘duo citizenship’ should have been specified to include contributions from people living in the diaspora. Otherwise the people had spoken through the “Mun’gomba Constitution Review Commission” period.
I will contribute when I see that the numerous prevvious contributions from years past have been acted upon.

Too late to contribute, submissions and contributions were made in 2005 during constitution review commission done in all 9 provinces of Zambia. Besides in the same year there was an indaba which facilitated the formation of the constitution review commission. so it would have made sense if the wesite was made by then. Otherwise contributing this time around wont make any inpact since alot of amandments have taken place from the time the NCC was formed.

If Mwangala’s observation is true then ‘DUAL CITIZENSHIP’ should be considered. Do not just praise us, incorporate us in national programmes. Kumushi e kumwesu.
