A 12 year-old girl of Chama District, in the Eastern province, who was allegedly defiled by her uncle, has died.

Chama District Victim Support Coordinator Lackson Zimba confirmed to ZANIS that the minor died yesterday in Chama district hospital.

Mr. Zimba said the girl, who was a Grade 5 pupil, died a few days after being admitted to the hospital following the defilement.

Mr. Zimba told ZANIS that the girl had informed the police that she had for a long time been repeatedly defiled by her 24 year-old uncle who looked after her.

She had narrated to police that the uncle threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the defilement.

She narrated that her uncle was a very violent man adding that at one time when she tried to fight him off he fractured her shoulder.

An X-ay taken at Chama District Hospital revealed that she suffered a broken collar bone.

The uncle has since been arrested and charged him with defilement contrary to section 138, cap 87 of the laws of Zambia.

  1. What worries me most is when such unfortunate revelations come into the fore, most of the bloggers on LT are damn silent about the issue! Are we being paranoid condemning such absurdities? Where is the practice of citizen journalism so much seen on LT on this issue?

Had the story been about RB, Dora Siliya, Zambia Airways and the like, almost half if not all LT bloggers would have by now given their opinion.

Is this an issue to deny ourselves our valuable views? Come on bloggers let not be petty.

These paedophiles are a menace and if this be true, they must face the full wrath of law.

I guess a competent judge will mete out justice without partiality on either side of the case.

  2. By the time I blogged, about 30 people had visited and looked at the story, but only two left the comments while the rest, like the priest passed by a half dead man who fell in the hands of robbers, even after seeing him. It only took a good Samaritan (i guess the only two bloggers before me) to help the victim.

And please do not tell me you have helped except you found the victim had been evacuated because sometimes you blog even at awkward hours!.

    Enjoy the blogging.

  4. Very sad and condolences to the bereaved family following “Mr. Zimba said the girl, who was a Grade 5 pupil, died a few days after being admitted to the hospital following the defilement….. She had narrated to police that the uncle threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the defilement.

As for the Uncle it appears the threat has now culiminated into an action. I just hope he did not kill her too. Whatever the case,
let us pray for the Uncle to be delivered from such evil acts which can only be blamed on the devil due to demons.

  9. This is utterly disturbing and needs to be collectively condemned in the strongest words possible by ALL bloggers.
I very much agree with #4 observer’s sentiments: had it been a political/corruption issue, hundreds of comments would have flown in, but now, such wicked acts seem to become “normal” . Bloggers, your opinnion counts! Let’s all say NO when we have the means to do so.

  10. For as long as we keep treating such offenders with kid glooves, this evil habit of defiling minors will continue. I would suggest a dearth penalty or life imprisonment for such offences. Here we now have it, an inocent girl’s life has been unfairly ended at just 12! while the maniac will be feed with beans bought by tax payers money if he ever sees the inside of a prison….what a shame! There are so many sex workers all over the show, why a minor if you aint man enough to control your animal passions????? Sad!

  12. Cabipaaaaaaaaaaa, cabipililaaaaaaaaaaa. A life has been lost here! The Law mus take its course. If we cannot be trusted and responsible guardians, let us surrender the dependants to orphanages mwe! Would it help the defiler to be present for burial, I wonder?

  13. Observer, I may be wrong, but my guess is there have been so few comments because most bloggers access LT using working hours, hence few comments today. Even from the 30 or so before you many could have been using an internet cafe, or mobile hence few comments.

That aside, the article drove a chill down my spine. What more can we do other than just comment. A start would be to ensure that if such happens to anyone close to you, lets not think it is a dirty secret and sweet it under the carpet. Bring the criminals to justice! even if it my stigmatize the victim, it helps in preventing more victims as would be offenders will think of what may before them should they go ahead and get caught.

A deeper understanding of what drives the sick men to there acts may also be of help in…

  14. A man who defiles a girl or woman should be castrated. I do not know why they are left off the hook easily.Women groups, NGOs what do you say.

  15. i agree with the observation that we treat such cases with kinder gloves.these pipo deserve death within days.incest + defilement leading to death=death sentence, not the usual 15yrs.these pipo do not even deserve to use tax payers money in form of food, health services ,uniforms, soaps etc,plz just hang them.if there cases that deserve death sentence on conviction, defilement shud be number 1.i am so heart broken….to be continued.

  16. This makes me sick to the stomach! He should have been charged with manslaughter, I’m sure this poor little angel’s death is as a result of the repeated defilement.

Poor soul may her soul rest in peace.

The uncle should be castrated and given life behind bars. We don’t want such ‘sick’ individuals walking amongst decent folk in our socieities. Knowing our archaic Zambian laws, the guy will be given a silly sentence and set free to continue his sick ways and later become a grandfather defiler! Utterly despicable.

  17. Have you ever thought why in many islamic countries people do not commit defilemnet. Even like in North Africa. What they do is they would call people you know like relative even other citizens who want to see.Gather them then infront of them all , he lays his Pennis on some table and they chop it off. I think that would be a good way for people to stop defilement. It pains me whenever i hear or read such stories and these pepetrators need stiffer punishment. If its the devil tempting these people or its a demon in them the punishment should still be there for listening to the devil and allowing the demon to possess them. The punishment go to jail and have the penis chopped off.

  19. If own relatives can do that to innocent children, then what can we expect from someone from the streets? where are all the morals gone? This leaves to wonder why no one went to her rescue.. didn’t someone in the neighbourhood notice some strange behavoiur at the victim’s home? Normally in zed, the elders would easily notice something and would speak out.

  21. Defilement is not a new issue. Defilers have been sent for 45 years and most of them have died before completion of sentence yet no one learns a lesson. We need to change our laws and introduce firing squad which should be done in public and live on ZNBC, MUVI TV, Radio Phoenix, etc.

  22. every time i read/hear stories like this, it takes me back to a case in Iran where a girl was burned and blinded with acid. the court issued a Qesas(exact punistment) for the offender in which case he was to be blinded by pouring acid in both of his eyes. my verdict for child defilers and rapist is to take them to jail, let them be raped by inmates and castrated. in this particular case take the defiler to mukobeko afterwards.

  23. #26. way to go. A Qesas should be favourable in these cases. let the men be r .a .p .e. d by inmates and castrated afterwards in this case take him to mukobeko!

  24. Marcus Mwenya #22, I guess you could be right – and perhaps some people were still at church.
But if that is purely on account of people blogging during work days, then BEHOLD WHAT HOURS LOST IN PRODUCTION when people blog! I get back on this one in future. I am doing a research.
    Enjoy your day.

  27. This is so disturbing to read. This man should be made an example. In fact he should now be charge for murder and never let out. He is a pervert and will continue to practice his evil ways if let out. One wonders what is on the mind of an adult who forces himself on a minor. Surely what pleasure can they find or is it just a matter of being evil? There are so many fully grown women who will give away for almost nothing, go to them instead of now killing our children. I hope his male room mates will do equally to him in jail, that which he has done to the child and lets see how much fun he will have.

  28. Very sad indeed. It’s time for all Zambians to rise up and face this problem. There is so much defilement taking place in our country of which the greater percentage is never known and will never be known because of cultural taboos. We need to face this problem head on.From my own analysis a lot of people who commit these crimes have psychological problems, they could have been defiled themselves and since it’s a taboo in Zambia to speak about such things, they were never healed emotionally so the output is what we are seeing. We need to look at the root cause of this problem, break all cultural taboos, face it and deal with it. As much as i agree that it’s demons i also believe the devil has to find an open door or root before he enters someone’s life.Let us all rise up and deal with this…

  29. cancer in our country/society/community and of course the Law should take it’s course on these perpetrators but let us also deal with the root cause of this cancer so that we reduce future incidences/crimes. God bless Zambia.

  30. Poor girl..I dont know how people can be so evil. Men who do such things should be dealt with. But rather, we should try and provide support systems for girls who are faced with such situations so that they can turn to someone for help. Some girls(and boys too) will forever remain in silence about their being defiled, due to guilt, fear or not knowing that what is being done to them is wrong. Let us teach them that certain things are not allowed, even if it is your uncle, dad or whoever. And they do have the courage to speak up,let us try to create an environment in which they can be supported. M.H.S.R.I.P.

  31. Something has to be done, and some thing has to be done now. Whatever cultural taboos people are talking about should be taken and tossed at the cultural mongers. Our children should be protected and protected vigorouly. Whether Politicians, citizen, visitors or cheifs no body should touch Gods precious ones. Make laws and apply them.

  32. Here is the best way to deal with such creatures: Put the chap in a cage and leave a small opening on top of the cage place the character at the busiest bus station and let every commuter give him a nod (nkonyo) or just place him in the middle of the town and let people view him like a lion in a zoo.

This kind of behaviour is not new and most smiling women u see today have had such experiences but chose to be silent for the sake of protecting their image and the offenders. Let every well meaning human being condemn such kind of behaviour!!!! Report the culprits and we shall know what to do. This makes me feel like joining Zambia Police.

It is simply Evil and barbaric!!!!

  34. there are absolutely no words that can describe these beasts that take advantage of poor innoccent children. i dont think prison is even enough. they should be castrated and left to bleed out. the pain those poor children go through. emotionally and physically.
