Eight illegal miners die in rock fall

Share

Eight suspected illegal miners have died after being trapped by rock falls in a tunnel at Nkana Central shaft slag dump belonging to Chambeshi metals.

The eight bodies were discovered after a survivor of the accident, who was seriously injured, informed a passerby, who then reported the incident to the mine police.
The deceased are suspected to have gone to mine cobalt and copper remains.

Chambeshi Metals Plc Manager for Safety Occupational, Health and Environment, Daniel Chihili who was at the scene supervised the digging out of the eight bodies.

Mr. Chihili cautioned the general public to refrain from illegal mining pointing out that it could lead to untimely deaths.

A Nokia Cell Phone was recovered on one of the dead bodies, which was badly disfigured.ZANIS

  1. It is really a sad story but what can we do.these people dont want to listen.something bad happened yesterday and today the are working.let them finish.

  2. kitwe boys want to get rich quick, you can sympathise but you cant do anything these guys expected this to happen and they knew.

  3. you guys are so mean! These people probably died trying to get some money to feed thier families. people are suffering in Zambia. Atleast they were not going out to rob people. Let us sympathise and not condemn . Just because you have your life easy dont mean everyone does. MAY THIER SOULS REST IN PEACE, AND MAY GOD PROVIDE FOR THEIR FAMILIES.

  4. there are amny ways of one can provide for family….the problem is that if life in the city has become tuff and one cant affort, its better to go back to the village.

  5. These problems have become rampant on the CB, and I do not think the deceased are in any way to blame. These guys are just small in the whole cobalt/copper quick business. They collect for collectors who collect for other collectors who export. This site is a “dump” meaning you need to have extraction machinery way better than the mines to extract anything from it. Now, where would a “Nokia bearing” Chamboli man do his refining before he presents it to the nest man in the chain. Let us get together and investigate where these slugs were being supplied and we would have dealt with the root cause. N-E Way, Um-Zambian ali shupa. MTSROTM. (May Their Souls Rest On The Moon.)

  6. Life is really hard in Zambia. These people are definately unemployed and wanted to maintain themselves and their families.
It is very sad and these are needless deaths to what is supposed to be the productive population. May the Good Lord keep your Souls.

  7. Its strange how Zambian have become so hard hearted as to almost celebrate the deaths of fellow men. Life is tuff both in the cities and villages. These people were not criminals breaking into your homes, etc.
    Shame on some of you.

  8. All of you saying bad things about the deceased ,its not to say you are well off because you are wise or clever ,God has just been kind on you .Pa Zed life is really bad.
