Vice President Mutale Nalumango has warned that corruption and the misuse of public funds will not be tolerated, regardless of when the offences occurred or who was responsible.
Mrs Nalumango said public resources meant to improve the lives of citizens must be directed towards their intended purposes.
She was speaking in the National Assembly of Zambia during the adoption of the Public Accounts Committee report on the Auditor General’s report for the financial year ending December 31, 2024.
Meanwhile, Information and Media Minister Cornelius Mweetwa said the latest audit findings do not support claims of widespread corruption under the current administration.
Mr Mweetwa urged citizens to carefully assess Government’s position on corruption, stating that efforts to address the issue are ongoing and structural.
At the same time, Home Affairs Minister Jack Mwiimbu said Government will act on issues raised in the recent audit report.
Mr Mwiimbu said the report contains important findings and added that Government has not interfered with institutions responsible for producing oversight reports.
Responding to the debate, Acting Finance Minister Elvis Nkandu commended the Public Accounts Committee and the Office of the Auditor General for their scrutiny of the report in line with National Assembly Standing Orders.
Mr Nkandu said the process strengthens accountability and transparency in the management of public resources.
