Government applauds Kansanshi–education partnership

Government through the Ministry of Education has commended Kansanshi Mining PLC for being a consistent partner in improving the education sector in the Province.

Speaking during the launch of the National Library week commemoration in Solwezi District, Ministry of Education Permanent Secretary in charge of technical services Kelvin Mambwe represented by North-western province Education Officer Frederick Munkinyi stated that the support rendered to the Ministry by the Mining Company shows the value it places on having an educated communities.

Giving the Provincial Library that was renovated and equipped by the Mining Company as an example, Dr Mambwe said that collaboration between Government and the private sector transforms communities.

He said that by investing in the Library Kansanshi Mining PLC has not just renovated a building but has invested in human potential.

“Kansanshi mine thank you for you have reignited this Library, you have shown that when the private sector steps in as a true partner, communities thrive and the renovated and equipped Library is a living proof of what the theme for this year’s National library week calls for, what was once a traditional book room has now been reborn as a modern knowledgeable hub with digital learning equipment and improved accessibility,” he said.

And Province Permanent Secretary colonel Grandson Katambi Retired, who was represented by the Assistant secretary Bornwell Njungu stated that Kansanshi mining PLC contribution in the education should be emulated by all stakeholder to ensure no child is left behind.

He stressed that building stronger partnerships ensure that communities thrive further noting the Provincial Administration’s commitment to building partnerships for National Development.

“Allow me to thank Kansanshi Mining PLC for being our all-weather partner in the development of education in the Province,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kansanshi Mining PLC Head of Education Sylvia Kabaghe reiterated the Mining Company’s commitment to support the Ministry of education beyond events, stating that the need to see children from Mining towns and rural schools encounter the same opportunities is what drives the company to invest in the education sector.

Ms Kabaghe noted that the Kansanshi foundation believes that Literacy is not a luxury but a foundation upon which development is built.

She added that the mining company renovated the library to bridge the access, exposure and encouragement gap faced by many learners due to lack of resources in schools.

The National library week runs from the 15th to the 19th of June 2026 under the theme: Reigniting Libraries: Building partnerships for thriving communities”.
