MMD NEC endorses Banda, Tetamashimba

Share

THE National Executive Committee (NEC) of the MMD has endorsed President Rupiah Banda for the party presidency at the forthcoming convention and 2011 elections.

MMD spokesperson, Benny Tetamashimba said in a statement issued in Lusaka that the decision to present Mr Banda as the sole candidate at the convention was made yesterday at a NEC meeting held at State House.

Mr Tetamashimba said the NEC’s decision to field Mr Banda at the convention and as candidate for the 2011 presidential elections was arrived at in compliance with Article 10(J) of the MMD constitution.

“All the NEC members who stood against Mr Banda when the MMD was selecting a candidate to lead the party into the elections last year actually supported the candidature of Mr Banda in the NEC meeting.

“The national chairman and national secretary appealed to all MMD members to support the decision of the NEC and appealed to all members to support the candidature of President Banda at the next MMD convention and 2011 elections,” he said.[quote]

The NEC also elected Minister of Finance and National Planning, Situmbeko Musokotwane as chairperson for agriculture to replace Maybin Mubanga, who was recently appointed Zambia’s ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Mr Tetamshimba said the meeting also elected Copperbelt Minister, Mwansa Mbulakulima as the vice-national treasurer, replacing Jazzman Chikwakwa who is now Luapula Province permanent secretary.

The meeting ratified Mr Banda’s nominations to the NEC of Sports Minister Kenneth Chipungu, to replace Japhen Mwakalombe, the Chongwe District Commissioner, and Keith Mukata, who took over from Syacheye Madyenkuku.

Other NEC presidential nominations endorsed yesterday were those of Evelyn Mwanawasa, who replaced Walusiku Lisulo as a trustee, and Energy Minister Kenneth Konga in place of Rosemary Banda, who had been given a diplomatic posting.

“Mr Madyenkuku and Mr Lisulo have been withdrawn from the NEC by the appointing authority as per constitutional provisions of the MMD.

“Other acting appointments in the provinces of chairladies and chairpersons will continue until elections are undertaken,” Mr Tetamashimba said.

The NEC will also defend the Chitambo parliamentary seat by fielding a candidate against the Patriotic Front (PF), which is under the PF/United Party for National Development (UPND) alliance.

Mr Tetamashimba said the party would equally field candidates in the local Government by-elections to be held in August and appealed to the people of Chitambo to vote for the MMD candidate.

  1. Ba teta, this is no time to talk about endorsing RB, there are more serious national issues that needs your attention .kindly sort out the strikes in the country, By the way where is the same RB you are endorsing.

  2. Ok, bootlikers, he must prove to us electorates, what has he done for the people of zambia to seek another term or for zambians to vote him, patiantly waiting what 2011 holds for us.

  3. Teta continue to fool yourself Cousin. Banda na MUDIDI wake bayenda. It will not be for Banda to fall he was there in 1991 under the coat of UNIP. SAZAKAFA NA DEPRESION. BUT IWE KAYA. Definately TULEYABUKA MU BWATO with a JANZA MBELE puddling. The two together make a perfect match to forster sastainable development in this country.

  4. Ha ha ha ..where is Prof Chirwa? Looks like another one bite the dust in MMD. That is Zambian politics for you. So what has happens to his 2011 agenda? Is he going to form his Party now? I would join it. PF and MMD are the same corrupt people and HH is a loser and I don’t want to waste my vote on him

  5. And where’s the national secretary for the MMD to leave everything to tetamafiga, we need to see or hear mangande, chituwo to openly announce their support for Banda. there will be drama in 2011, I smell divisions in MMD.

  6. Imwe ba NEC, what were you doing at state house instead of going to your secretariat for such nonsense. What has this man done in these few months he has been president for you to start endorsing him ? Don’t you have fresh blood in the MMD ? Bring someone fresh and new and also young so that maybe that person can deliver not someone who listerns to mad chaps like this chi Teta.

  7. And where’s the national secretary for MMD to leave everything to tetamafigure, we need to hear or see magande, chituwo the rocket scientist in the UK to openly announce their support for Banda, I smell divisions in MMD.

  8. MMD what happened to democracy in your party for you to start singing about a sole candidate ? What happens to other people interested in the same job ?

  9. so RB has accepted to go for the second term!! I thought he said that he will only be the presido for only one term. This is why in africa we will never prosper we are just too selfish.

  10. And where’s the national secretary for MMD to leave everything to tetamafigure, we need to hear or see mangande, chituwo and the Rocket scientist in the UK to openly announce their support for Banda, pantiantly waiting for 2011, there will be drama,i smell divisions in MMD.

  11. What’s up LT, did you fix your servers, what software have you put in place that is kicking out people’s postings, if this problem persist, i may help may be.

  12. Gentlemen if you dont like MMD you have the right to Join other parties like UNIP, PF, UPND or Ken Ngondo. The endorsement of RB by MMD members should only concern MMD members you can also endorse HH, Sata, Ken ngondo or even Miyanda no one should call you a boot licker. if you are not a member of MMD why are you concerned about the candidate they pick. its it that you are worried they will surely win and you will forever remain in the opposition. Those in oppostion who think RB is a weak candidate should be happy that they may have a chance to win despite having been defeated last time by the same weak candidate.

  13. Bwafya pa ZED. I hope the opposition gets united sothat we can shut Tenta fimofimo ‘s mouth once and for all in 2011

  14. this is rubbish. RB is too old guys please. We have young men like Mutati, Magande, Mpande to mesion just a few.
Why are we allowing chi Teta to ride on us like this. This is the end of MMD. Rubbish bootlickers cant even speak out even when they know they deserve better than RB.

  15. Nice one MMD NEC on “MMD spokesperson, Benny Tetamashimba said in a statement issued in Lusaka that the decision to present Mr Banda as the sole candidate at the convention was made yesterday at a NEC meeting held at State House” for people like Clive Chirwa (PhD, UK) will have to come up with a new working plan if they are serious about being Zambian President.

This is also good news for the PF-UPND PACT as there is a very weak candidate to stand with in the 2011 elections: in both political strength and body manuevering capabilities following the hospital case in South Africa last week.

In light of this, I am humbly asking Clive Chirwa (PhD, UK and Prof at Boston university) to join the UPND and seek a transport/tech position.

  16. In MMD people scared to speak out even when other people have made wrong descisions, reasons its becuase they are scared that they will lose jobs, hence booticking.

  17. 18 continued.

As for the PF-UPND PACT, this is a chance to field a similar to President B.H. Obama man against President RB Banda in 2011 tripartite elections following the US’ Obama (educated, energetic and young man) against McCain (military record, very old and seemingly tired man).

In all, this is time to use 21st Century prepared to work men and give the 20th century old men time to rest as we take care of them.

Have a blessed day and keep well you all.

  18. 20 continued.

On another hand, the sole candidature of President RB Banda at the forthcoming MMD convention must helpthe Undereducate to disband PF in 2011 and join the mighty UPND as its cadre and later stand as a UPND National Chairman sole candidate. Such would strengthen the mighty UPND and shame the prophets of doom as UNITY in dviersity of backgrounds (tribe, race, religion, etc.) across all Zambians takes centre stage in the wake of reality ot remove the MMD from GRZ through ballots.

  19. Job seekers… Ifyabupubafwe. arent there any young enteligent chaps in MMD sure. This is truelly being selfish. Awe mwandi katwishi ngatukekalapo bwino pa zed

  20. Just to set the record straight. This is not Teta’s decision only. The brother is just saying the obvious and common sense. Any party would do what we have done anywhere in the world. What is the fuss about this. This surely is a common sense and obvious choice. Can anybody tell me of any party in the whole WORLD that has ever replaced the incumbent . You underestimate the power of incumbency in Africa politics. RB is the right man and 80% landslide come 2011

  21. UPND/PF pact – one of them will have its political obituary written by december 2010. When Sakwiba Sikota teamed up with sata in 2006 it was asumed western would go along at the polls unfortunately it didnt. when HH teamed up with UNIP and FDD to form UDA it was asumed Eastern would go along at the polls unfortunately it didnt. today PF and UPND have joined hands hoping Luapula, northern and the highly popular southern will go along at the polls. SAME OLD STORY GUYS AFRICAN POLITICS IS MORE COMPLEX THAT PERSONALITIES COMING TOGETHER.

  22. Let MMD plot its own downfall. Not worth commenting on so much. They have just pressed the ‘self – destruct’ button set to explode somewhere around 2011.

  23. 25Engines greetings. Following your “When Sakwiba Sikota teamed up with sata in 2006 it was asumed western would go along at the polls unfortunately it didnt. when HH teamed up with UNIP and FDD to form UDA it was asumed Eastern would go along at the polls unfortunately it didnt. today PF and UPND have joined hands hoping Luapula, northern and the highly popular southern will go along at the polls. I am with you and this is why I am proposing that the Undereducate has to simply disband PF which has no members but supporters of one person who can join UPND, take his support there once he is adopted as sole candidate for National Chairman at the upcoming UPND convention.

Such move will end tribalism and people will vote wisely.

  24. If only we had opposition in Zambia, this was going to be an opportunity. The fact that this man will be out with his bag of sweets in twelve months time, could have worked against him Too early for people to forget all those promises he was dishing out. Alas! They are showing division even before they sit together.

  25. 27 continued.

The major problem we have currently is vote splitting and Clive Chirwa (PhD, UK) must take this message seriously too. Vote splitting comes up out of tribalism and the MMD seems geared to continue supporting such voting.

Therefore, let the Undereducate and his advisors think seriously of bringing progress to Zambians and Zambia as opposed to clinging to ways that are making Zambian people be at each others’ necks.

What is needed is a united ONE BIG opposition party against MMD as the US’ politics have shown regarding the Democrates and Republicans with core ideologies. Currently, the PF’s constitution and manifesto are a joke which is why PF is more like a club joint where people meet for fun and fight if necessary.

  27. In my view, RB is the most ‘diplomatic’ president we have had so far. His battles are always fought by either silence or others like Teta. A good example is the POST, they are no longer the ‘authority’ they used to be, simply because he does not respond to them like his predecessors. They have insulted and sem to be tired now and are showing some signs of ‘selfrestraint’ from insulting.

Thanks for the greetings, i dont believe sata can disband his PF or suspend his presidential ambitions especially that he likes to measure his strength based on the Number of MPs he has in the house on the other hand HH has never trusted Sata and it will be deficult to convince him that Sata will honour promises or agreements that would make HH sacrifice his ambitions and prop sata to plot one. if such a thing happens and Sata leads that pact then there will be a backlash from southern(625 000 votes +) and Munkombwe will deliver all that vote to MMD making Rupiah win with a landslide. If HH is on top a backlash from luapula and Northern is expected giving MMD a landslide.

  29. 30 3RqU greetings. On your “Ulishani mwaice?“, thanks but how old ae you to be writing such to me? Mulekwata umuchinshi (you should have respect) sometimes?.

You above behaviour is no different from your own “#29 Mwaice Maestro name calling will not make it better! I bet your so called “undereducate has advisors who visit this site and how do you expect me or any other person to take you seriously?

  30. 32 Engines nice analysis on your “Thanks for the greetings, i dont believe sata can disband his PF or suspend his presidential ambitions especially that he likes to measure his strength based on the Number of MPs he has in the house on the other hand HH has never trusted Sata and it will be deficult to convince him that Sata will honour promises or agreements that would make HH sacrifice his ambitions and prop sata to plot one. Definitely arrangements of a monarch will not work for there is no blood relation between the two.

In fact, according to the UPND constitution president HH has got only this 2011 chance and after that (2016) another person has to lead UPND. Thus, HH can not afford to make a mistake.

    Have a normal day.

  31. This Teta Fimo Fimo is one of those politician who just go with the flow, even when he does not agree with RB s, policies, he will still endorse him so that he is quaranteed a good job,
waste of space this muntu. He does not care about the pipo ,but for his own benefit.

  32. Yet they have been sponsoring kabovas to force PF to hold a convention. Oh if God can answer my prayers that the man RB goes for a 1000 ops on his body so that come 11 he will campain from a wheel chair AMEN

  33. There is totally no democracy in the MMD party. Only puppets and bootlickers seem to be in support of RB. I wish they could have elections and vote for someone on merit not simply endorsing everytime. We must expect some MMD members leaving the party prior to the election in 2011 as most of them in the MMD NEC have no cnfidence in RB.

  34. 32 Engines. Follwoing on from Thus, HH can not afford to make a mistake, and another fact the Undereducate Sata MC who is a dictator in PF and PF does not follow its own rules stands a chance of still being PF self-appointed leader in 2016, president HH just has to lead the PF-UPND PACT.

This is why I have proposed democratic convention elections in all 9 provinces of Zambia to pick a PACT presidential candidate as the grassroot people will be engaged in the process.

As for “If HH is on top a backlash from luapula and Northern is expected giving MMD a landslide“, those two provinces are not any threat and can be left out with loss of generality. Only cosmopolitan CB Province is needed to president HH.

  35. 32 Engines. As for your “if such a thing happens and Sata leads that pact then there will be a backlash from southern(625 000 votes +) and Munkombwe will deliver all that vote to MMD making Rupiah win with a landslide“, this is almost (very) true. To make matters worse, Western and Northerwestern Provinces will not vote for the Undereducate as Zambian President in such an arrangement.

Such a mistake will cause Eastern, Central, Western, Northwestern, Southern and large chunch of Lusaka provinces vote for President RB Banda, by God’s grace.

The remaining parts of Lusaka, above half of CB, Luapula and Northern Provinces can never give the Undereducate win the Zambian Presidency.

Therefore, being sober minded in PF will help.

Have a good day too! in your earlier blog you mentioned Prof. Chirwa, thats a very good candidate and a force to reckon with however, He miscalculated his moves (i) he thot having the post to your side and creating powerful enermies within MMD was a risk worth taking. (ii) The East vote that easily propelled levy would easily become his springboard against RB like Magande taking southern from HH if he became MMD candidate. (iii) He successfully wrote a column in the post on technologies to help imrove his popularity around the country. this same column now haunts him because each time he writes anything abut development the crirtics are quick to point out that he better stick to cars.

  38. Instead of scheming how best to deal with the problems facing the nation like strikes, these people are already in campaign mode endorsing Nyama Soya. Endorsing him on which developmental achievement ? Touring other countries to an extent of limping. Chi Tetamashimba chiichindike sana coz one day this Nyamazai will surely answer for his filth.

  39. #42 Enlightened Physicist Maestro Hhehhehhehhe from Central Command Post in …. says

“This is why I have proposed democratic convention elections in all 9 provinces of Zambia to pick a PACT presidential candidate as the grassroot people will be engaged in the process.” Thats the point and the looser at that convention must accept defeat. anything else outside this will only result in a landslide in favour of MMD.UPND and PF must now merge their constitutions and iron out all differences in the laws and rules. The resulting constituion should then serve as the guideline for the Pact convention that will elect a new leader.

  40. 44 Engines. Cool stuffs. On your “in your earlier blog you mentioned Prof. Chirwa, thats a very good candidate and a force to reckon with however, He miscalculated his moves (i) he thot having the post to your side and creating powerful enermies within MMD was a risk worth taking…. “, Clive Chirwa (PhD, UK; Prof. at Boston Univ. in UK and not in any Zambian University) simply saw what seemed like a presidential candidate vacuum in MMD and miscalculated by thinking MMD people (even Doctors like Katele Kalumba) would fear the title of Professor. Politics is not about TITLES, but how much command you have on the grassroots and sadly Dr Chirwa has never stood for any election in Zambia I believe. Thus, let him look at President Obama who start by contesting in low positions.

  41. 42/9 Engines I hear you.

To continue on 50 above, Dr Clive Chirwa must cease from using academic qualifications and compete in conventions and National electionas for positions. I personally appreciate his CV, but he must show us that he is a democrate by meeting people and convincing them to vote for him.

In fact, a good start for our good Dr Chirwa is to start as an MP under the PF-UPND PACT since MMD seem to have successfully curtailed him from proceeding with his presidential ellections though he can sober up and contest an MP position under MMD too.

On the PACT, definitely only one party and not two fragmented ones with their own ideals will possiby unseat MMD from GRZ in 2011 or any other election year.

  46. Remember how UNIP bootlickers used to endorse KK at the so called ‘Mulungushi Rock of authority ‘ in Kabwe those days? Who could dare stand against KK? Rupiah is still a staunch UNIP card carrying member and is systematically applying UNIP dictatorial policies with the support of bootlickers like Teta. At the rate things are going Democracy in Zambia is will never be given a chance. Rupiah you are TOO OLD and TOO UNIP and the likes of Teta are a total DISGRACE.

  47. #24 you are sure because you know you will cook the votes come 2011, otherwise Zambian people don’t want anything to do with RB or MMD like yesterday. I think the HOUR has overstayed and its time to go (The Hour has Gone). Not that these any party at the moment pa Zed that is impressive and promising.

  48. Where is RB? The seems to have a nack for making himself scarce whenever there is a problem in the nation. Surely is this the kind of president we need?

  49. Hey LT, The Confederation Cup is happening in your backyard and you can’t even report it and we have to read about this very important tournament on our African soil from distant news sources. Why would you really prefer to report on Tetamashimba instead of what’s happening there in SA. By the way does anyone know why the soccer fans were booing that only white dude in the SA team?

  50. #61- BA MONZE, Do you mean the document in which Teta refers to the ‘MOTHER OF ALL CORRUPTION’ and says it will shock everybody once released? I have read the document and agree with you #63 it is very ineresting and makes Kapoko’s case child’s play.

  51. Arthroscope operation takes weeks to heal and days for those who are lucky. RB must be on a wheel chair or on crutches. He is shy and afraid to be seen in that state especially considering whats transpiring at the moment.

  52. There goes the Brainless Party again!!!!! Do they honestly think the people of Zambia like Rupiah Bwezani Banda??

  53. Bye bye MMD, Surely you NEC members the whole lot of you have no wisdom to acknowldge just dipensable you have rendered MMD? I am not you sympathiser but your thinking is extremely obtuse! But thanks, your negative thinking has helped Mother Zambia. Teta and the rest of the MMD clowns, Twasanta Mwane.

  54. # 67 I could not agree with you more!!! Indeed these people think Bwezani Kumunzi is liked by Zambians!! Zambians don’t want nyama soya, they want real nyama!!!!!

  55. Lest Zambians forget. RB stated publicly that he was only going to serve the remainder of Levy’s term and retire. We will hold him accountable for his words. Please no matter what in 2011 just reject him. It seems the bootlickers like Teta are giving him the false hope. I believe the PF/ UPND Pact will sweep MMD out of power.

  56. You guys you said you wouid give chance to Magande and others in 2011. Does this mean that you are liars. We are tied of you poeple. Can we Vote for change. Its time for MMD to Go

  57. Teta-Malilo’s ability to excrete excrement from his mouth every time he opens it deserves to be awarded a “Nyamazai Grand Eagle Oscar Award”.

  58. From the “minor” operations we are seeing and learning from Levy’s precedent, I even wonder whether Teta-Mililo realises Rupiah might not be there in 2011.

  59. Further, it is an open secret that some big wigs in the MMD are not happy and the party is from what we hear tearing on tribal lines. Banda might sooner than later lose his majority in parliament like Chiluba did in 2001 before he disolved parliament in a haste and annointed Levy who in turn turned the ***** over to the law.

  60. where are the founder members of MMD to allow Teta to take MMD to in this Manner .Teta ,RB are foreigners in that Party, are they all foolish to allow such,RB never dreamed of ruling Zambia thats why he has no solutions to problems facing our Country.Teta even in N/wetsern has no impact,Fellow zambians should we allow these quacks to continue even after 2011,don’t think whatever happened in Angola,Congo DR etc is people’s wish ,they are forced by stupid leaders who want Power even if they have no Solutions,God Forbid,
If RB is a genuine Zambian Let him step down even now .Pliz we don’t want problems in this lovely Nation.Give others chance to solve and Save our Nation and our future Generation.

  61. This is a sad day for democracy! 45 years and we are still searching for democracy! How and when will our Leader grow up? NEC were has this circus come from? Does our President really believe he can win this? VJ, AKA. MBIKUSITA, S. WINA. were is the domcracy you promised at Garden House Hotel 17 years ago? remember? How have you let our party go down this path? Is it because you are on the gravy train? Is this you idea of democracy? This is betrayal at it’s best!

  62. We are Blessed with Honorable Ruphia Bwezani Banda. He is an intelligent and listening president. With 2011, RB will win with unbelievable margin. We love you RB. Long Live RB Long Live MMD

  63. Now Rupiah has made his intentions known, to be a Wa mu yayaya president. The man is not interested in listening to the cries of the Zambian people. The biggest mistake was to bring Rupiah from retirement and appointing him vice president. Come 2011 and beyond he will use all the tricks in the book to remain in office. As for now he is having a good laugh at all this talk, talk, talk about him because he knows it amounts to nothing.
