Women’s lobby welcomes Dora Siliya’s appointment

THE Zambia National Women’s Lobby (ZNWL) has welcomed the appointment of Dora Siliya as Minister of Education and Gladys Kristafor as permanent secretary at the ministry of community development.

ZNWL board chairperson, Tamara Kambikambi said in a statement issued in Lusaka yesterday that the appointment of women in to decision-making positions is the only way Zambia would fulfill the 50/50 percent of women and men in decision-making as enshrined in the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) and African Union Protocols.

“We feel that Mrs Kristafor is ably suited for the job after having served as Ndola District Commissioner. We also welcome Honourable Siliya as new Education Minister,” Ms Kambikambi said.

The Lobby has also welcomed that President Banda’s pronouncement that the National Constitutional Conference should wind up its business within the given timeframe.

Ms Kambikambi said the pronouncement is a good proposal which would give people opportunity to have a new constitution that meets their aspirations.

“We also back President Banda in condemning the photographer who circulated pictures of a woman giving birth.

While we are in support of press freedom and the right to information, we would like to mention that as women we are deeply disturbed that the dignity of women is being undermined in the name of press freedom,” she said.

Ms Kambikambi said circulating pictures that demean women is a transgression of women’s right to privacy.

“The pictures of a woman in that situation are very depressing not only to the victim, but to all women in the country.

We therefore call on our colleagues in the media not to allow their image to be tarnished by one single individual who did not pay attention to the negative implication the picture has on women,” she said.

Ms Kambikambi said the media is a very useful partner for channeling information and should not be used to tarnish the image of vulnerable women, adding that the media should condemn irresponsible journalism.

  1. Whats there to welcome about Siliya’s controversial re appointment to Cabinet? You dont just have to be a woman to gain support from women’s movements, you have to be a woman of substance-exemplary in all aspects- morally, legally, socially, academically and otherwise. Where does Siliya fall?

  2. Very foolish, what are you welcoming.Just becoz you were lambasted at some press conference for not supporting a fellow woman.Very, very irritaing, just shut up if you have nothing to say.

  3. Wow, women are only interested in achieving 50/50 representation no matter who is appointed. And why r a lot of these organisations bowing to pressure from the president? 1st on Dora and then the pictures? The president misled the nation on the photos and everyone seems to have taken the bait. Very pathetic that no one is condemning the circumstances that resulted in the photos being taken in the 1st place.

  4. HONESTLY, what is this world coming to, MAYO! if you had nothing say apart from this you should have kept quiet. Dora is a disgrace to women!. She should be handled with contempt she deserves until she can repent. Do you want to wait until you see worms coming out of a situation then say otherwise?!.. That woman was givng birth in that way because clinics and hospitals ARE NOT WORKING!! Should your cry be that Government should do someting about the STRIKES?!! That is the highlight of that PHOTO…You people make me sick! what kind of bootlicking is this? Zambians you have completely lost your minds, you cant even see what is plain and true! SHAME ON YOU!

  5. This is so ridiculous I couldn’t believe my eyes when I first saw the item. What is there to congratulate about Dora’s appointment. Nit wits!

  6. I really dont think this Alangizi’s view represents that of the whole body. She just wants money like what has happened to UNZASU. Period.

  7. Who ever listens to these NGOs anywhere? As long as RB can furnish there mansions built by unsuspecting foreign tax payers they can even pose nude if thats what it takes and thats of course in the darkness away from prying eyes of the Post. They are useless and present nobody, how much money have donors pumped in our nation, millions if not billions of US dollars and poverty is just worsening.

  8. Womens Lobby you dont have to support any womans appointment regardless of the charater, dora is just a slut, i know her

  9. Good points but news is news, women. In fact, I believe the photographer did a good job to let relevant information backed by proof. What could have been wrong is to have over done the photographing, but I can not comment fully on this one thing for I did not see the pictures.

Let us move on now for lessons have been learnt and apologise made.

  10. There is nothing to be shocked about Tamara. She is presently, if am right, Chairperson of the Peer Review something housed at George Kunda’s office. Tamara has hefty allowances and now drives a powerful 4×4 GRZ vehicle even though she is a UNZA recturer. She can’t bite the finger that is currently feeding her.

  11. The women’s lobby group is misguided. This is not about gender 50/50. Its about getting the right people into key positions to carry our nation forward with growth and prosperity.

  12. Yeah, and look at all the wonderful advancement the women of Zambia have made with leadership like yours!! You are an insult to intelligent women everywhere.

  13. Oh Lucy Sichone, how we miss you! Even Mama Julia Chikamoneka had more self-esteem than some of today’s so-called women lobbyists!

  14. Ubu bwena bu totoli. Women Lobby cannot even condemn the happenings were a fellow woman delivered on the road adn would rather condemn the pictures and rush to give stupid credit for one Dora’s lunatic appointment. Anyway, Proffessor Hansungule said it yesterday, Dora and Rupiah are not bigger than the 12,000,000 Zambians, they are just f……..*****

  15. I did not know how far and extreme some foolish women can be. Those fotos have nothing to do with pornography even though RB sees it so. Since when is a desperate woman giving birth called pornography? Does RB know what and immoral Porn is for him to compare those fotos with such. Is the woman in the picture a porn artist? I think its even a bigger insult to mankind to call such pornography!! In fact politicians responsible for this rot should be charged with crimes against humanity. Madam Tamara Chimbichimbi you are a stupid ***** with no sense of judgement. BITCH!
