RB donates K10m to UNZASU

Share

PRESIDENT Banda has donated K10 million to University of Zambia Students Union (UNZASU) to be used for the students’ welfare.

The President has also promised to engage various stakeholders in trying to find solutions for various challenges that institutions of higher learning face.

President Banda said this on Friday when he held a consultative meeting with UNZASU leadership led by the union’s president, Duncan Nyirongo.

According to a statement released yesterday by Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations, Dickson Jere, the union presented a number of issues concerning the welfare of the students.

The concerns include the lack of accommodation, a shortage of books and learning materials, bursary scheme, transport problems and the dilapidation of the sports infrastructure.

“President Banda noted that the challenges which the University of Zambia and other higher learning institutions were facing in the country and promised to engage various stakeholders in trying to find a solution to the problem,” the statement reads.

The president assured the students that the Government attaches great importance to the education sector.

He also pledged to help the UNZASU in fundraising ventures, which the students’ body has embarked on.

He said the funds should be used for the intended purpose in order to encourage more people and companies to help UNZASU in raising funds.

  1. Why not take that towards the currently Strike issues bamudala. This man is surely related to Mugabe!

  2. UNZA lacks leadership in terms of innovation. Why can’t school of engineering be involved in construction, for example? That would create extra income & provide practical experience to engineering students who have continually been graduating half baked. The same goes for schools of Agric and Vet who should combine forces to come up with production chains from the UNZA farms harvests into products-nicely packaged (canned beef, tomatoe, you name it). The starting point can be obtaining a loan and use of students at CBU in terms of developing their management skills. Students so engaged in these projects could be given an allowance just as a way to avoid the whole cadre of lecturers hijacking the whole thing then run it down by paying themselves unjustified allowances.

  3. “The concerns included the lack of accommodation, a shortage of books and learning materials, bursary scheme, transport problems and the dilapidation of the sports infrastructure.”

What about the issue of Dora as education minister. I thought I read somewhere that UNZASU and COBUSU rejects Dora as education minister.

  4. UNZASU says they do not want Dora Siliya as their Education Minister, then RBB gives them ZMK 10 million for their welfare! Cant this man solve problems rather than sweep them under the carpet using our kwacha!? Cant wait to get rid of him, nayo ama elections are still so far away!

  5. Number 4 you speak a lot of sense, thumbs up. The K10m must be gratification to accept Dora, where is the ACC? Are those his personal funds?

  6. Kwena this man is senile. What can K10m kwacha do for all those problems presented? He wants students to start fighting each other on who uses than k10m and then he says, see how immature these students can be? Kwena Mulongoti and Teta Mashi have really destroyed this man’s thinking. What a waste of time and space for zambians! No wonder even monkeys don’t respect him.

  7. RB is trying to keep the UNZA thinkers quiet. This Rooftop Barman has no vision, without vision there’s no direction.

  8. RB Stinks of corruption.
He is trying to win over Duncan and his UNZASU Executive by giving them 10 M. What does he thing UNZASU is? some kind of Prostitute? What ajoke.
If he wanted to help UNZA, he should fund the institution instead of his useless MMD thieves and those foreign trips that have no direct benefit to the nation.

  9. why donate to the union!? no no no no no ! eh! its like donating to the commissioner of ECZ himself !? wats the sense in that!?

  10. #12 yo barry, in this era we have what is called “an entreprenueral university”. But ours are merely cost centres. Thats why Mwanawasa (almost) bought one of UNZA farms because the institution did not have use for it at all. UNZA isnt the only institution with that disease, other institutions like Natioanl Council for Scientifc Research, Zambia Insititute for Agriculture Research, among others also lack innovative leadership yet they have proper opportunities for self survival. They should copy from ZAMBEEF in having a huge share of the market by selling agric produce. Problem is that our researchers first want to be given lots of money, then that is when they’d start thinking of what they’ll do with it instead of thinking of how to make money from available resources-human,…

  11. Chi RB, what is 10 Million ZMK?, thats less than my fortnightly take home pay..
RB is trying to elude the triffles facing him.. ni malukuta maningi.

  12. imwe ba UNZA…..we hope the hangovers are gone now from the “inducements” you got and if you do not rally behind the issue of Dora ninshi twaishiba ati nabamishita. You probably thought it would not be published so that you could eat it quietly….Unfortunately it has been published and now everyone can see that you have been bought and that was their game plan…..So guys nga muli baume stick to your guns and get that lady of the education sector, she has already proven that she is not competent…….IF YOU DONT THEN YOU ARE SUPPORTING THE ROTTING FIBRE OF THIS NATION …..

  13. Bongo na sangu’s idea is veryvery briliant i wish some one from UNZA top manegment can pick it up. They do blog dont they?

  14. When RB leaves, there will be bo need to take him to a magistrates court but to Chilenje Local court his corrupt acts are just too simple, childish and nonsensical to waste the higher courts time. Whats this ballroom dance he has with Dora kanshi ?

  15. # 15 actually you remind me of my sch days, i did agric at secondary sch,we had what we called production unit. we grew vegetables and had poutry. the sch gave us vaccines and sprays, when the produce was ready the school sold it and the money continued to facilitate other projects such as buying new chicks and seeds. the pupils doing TD also made things and sold, repaired school furniture and all. the home craft made scones which where sold in the tuckshop. everyone was welcome to bring food for sale in the tuckshop solong the sch got 10%. some of these ideas need to be passed on to this institutions..

  16. Who said RB is not corrupt?? This is corruption at its best! UNZASU your integrity is at stake!!! Watch out??

  17. Bwezani thinks he can pay his way .. This money will just make the union leaders falloff from UNZASU power. You cant bribe a MONK..

  18. Abashi boot linking Abashi. To get the 10 meter is not an issue. The issue is that, has RB management to corrupt crime of the nation.(UNZA and COBUSU).

  19. In our days, these two Union chaps would have been impeached. Ask Michael Musonda and HH they will tell you what we did to Michael Musonda before the Ben chilufya took the PG job. But these students currently just want to be seen in suits. We had a vibrant RUPO (Ruin Police) and no nonsense think tank on plotical issues – we knew all the tricks by the PIG we thwarted evry move the PIG made against students. I doubt if such a spirit still exists at our now glorified Secondary School called UNZA.

  20. i am speechless…this man’s moronity has overshot recommended levels…the tiny little strings that held the remnants of a brain have snapped…he is in free fall you’all and with long time members of the no-brainers society like Teta, mulongoti and shikapwasha as guides, he will atain the ‘Order of the I.D.I.O.T’, the highest ever honour bestowed in their club.

  21. So has his farm has now become profitable that he can even donate money to others. Oh! sorry i forgot he doesn’t actually touch his salary and travel allowances- stashed away somewhere- as everything is paid for by the cash strapped government. Being led by ci kamunyama.

  22. Bad timing of doing things will create a terrible legacy of President RB Banda if he does not check himself carefully.

However, thanks for the “PRESIDENT Banda has donated K10 million to University of Zambia Students Union (UNZASU) to be used for the students’ welfare“. I hope UNZASU will use that money in a no corruption manner.

As for “He said the funds should be used for the intended purpose in order to encourage more people and companies to help UNZASU in raising funds“, this long overdue for I have been crying out about this issue for a long time. What remains now is to speak less and do more actions with regard to this.

  23. The problem with zambians is that we are easily compromised. The k10 million given to Unzasu has already silenced them. World wide student-movemental is the voice to the voiceless, and its the one which ignite revolution/ freedom from oppression. Don’t start things you can’t handle, you just wanted to raise dust for you to be bribed. Shame on you, Unzasu!!! Iwe ka unzasu presido y didn’t u tell yo president rB to give that money to the monkey which urinated on him.

  24. The consultation between RB & UNZASU were okay but the donation came at wrong time. May only fear is that the chaps may not stand up to challenge RB’s GRZ on issues affecting students at Unza. Those chaps fell into RB’ trap. Unzasu should call for early elections. Remember what happened to ZCTU & others when they held disccussion with RB in Kafue National Park. What followed were countrywide strikes by public service workers and I can foresee instability at Unza shortly. That donation of K10M is far short of solving the various problems affecting students at Unza.Unzasu does not survive on goodwill or donations from State House. It operates on contributions from the student pupolace and other activities within campus. The Nirenda led exectutive is nothing other than bunch of traitors.

  25. UNZASU monks and mamas are clever and what they have done is good. I hope they will continue speaking out so that President RB Banda donates more money to them. This will create a ripple effect where UNZA students are always receiving money which will better their lives.

I thus implore CBU and Mulungushi university student unions if they exist to speak out too so that they too can get some money from President RB Banda in form of donations.

Also, I am asking President RB Banda to help UNZ, CBU and Mulungushi universities to open offices which would be linking companies with students for small parttime stdent jobs. Such works well in South Africa.

Have a blessed day you all.

  26. The K10 million kwacha was meant to silence the union guys on the issue of Dora Siliya being the Education minister.

  27. #27 you are right, these chaps have told to keep quiet about what they planned to do lastweek. am sure they didnt get the blesings of the student populace because right now the students are on vacation.

  28. The student body must impeach the UNZASU executive. They must be a bunch of sellouts unless proven otherwise. What has happened to the spirit of UNZASU which could dare the mighty of KK and his dictatorial PIG. IN those days UNZA was infested with shushushus but UNZASU was bold. I guess times have changed and UNZASU is now in the hands of boys and girls who know nothing except drinking chibuku and licking icecream. What a pity!!!!!!!!!!!!
