The Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) in Mazabuka has supported the controversial purchase of hearses by government.
CCJP Mazabuka Co-ordinator, Simon Musune, told ZANIS in Mazabuka yesterday that the purchase of the hearses should be supported because it is meant to help lessen transport problems faced by mourners, especially those from poor families who cannot afford to hire transport.
Mr Musune said it is sad that some people are opposed to the purchase of hearses when some members of society were using bicycles and even bare hands to carry the coffins to the grave yard.
He said his organisation is in full support of the government’s decision because the programme is targeting the poor.
Mr Musune urged Zambians to develop a culture of supporting government when it has initiated good policies which are aimed at improving the livelihood of disadvantaged communities.
He urged Zambians to employ constructive criticism and desist from engaging in destructive criticism which is only meant to derail implementation of policies.
Meanwhile, Mr Musune has prodded government not to withhold salaries for public service workers who took part in the strike action.
He said such a move will only demotivate the workers.
He said the fact that the workers have agreed to go back to work meant that government should also reciprocate by addressing the concerns raised by the workers.
Mr Musune observed that taking such a drastic action might force the staff to resort to industrial unrest.
He has, however, commended President Banda for pardoning the workers who had gone on an illegal strike.
ZANIS
Mr musune, whatever trash you want to justify wont hold.the idea can be bold but since it stinks of plunder it becomes irrelevant.whatever you have said is short of one cardinal point.you haven’t called for the probe into finding out how much was the real cost of each unit.so don’t justify plunder.secondly, those vehicles are copycats of japanese landcruisers.in their form they are eye catching but in real terms they are substandard.i can bet you they wont withstand the rural terrain. In my case i wouldn’t have minded the ministry bought expensive units from either.TOYOTA ZAMBIA,CFAO or SOUTHERN CROSS because i know they are durable and these are esblished companies with workshops to provide back up services not that brief case company.that deal typically demostrates how politicians…
i would like to comment on Mr Musone’s remarks regarding hearses as reported by zanis on lusaka times
Mr Simon Musone i do not think you representing CCJP.how sustainable is the use of these hearses? do you think we are going to have these malilo cars for the next 4 years…..please when you speak be sensitive you are the only one who has spoken to support such a stupid idea togather with the president. in every country maybe the developed world these kind of services are not run by the government but by private individuals………..now you talk of hearses to be good how many more do you suggest GRZ should purchase, looking at the number of people dying per day in zambia….then 100 is not enough at all, the shit project is not sustainable + expenses to run those stupid hearses…
it’s a deal which demostrates how politicians plunder national resources from a citizenry which is not alert.cook up a deal which looks genuine on the surface yet underneath there is rot.so mr musune.iyi dilu iyi mali bakaiba bapati bapati ndiza amwebo bakamipa ka cut kenu kashonto.kamutwambila.
By now it should be very clear in everyone’s mind that the procurement of hearses was done irregularly and just one of the maverick exploits aimed at misappropriating taxpayers’ money. I cannot find any place where hearses improved the livelihood of a people.
Musune if i was your examiner and was marking your paper i can give fifty percent and you should be lucky that it should be the passing mark, good advise on the striking workers but on the hearses there you are wrong.I still find it difficulty to understand why government should find it suitable to buy those manda manda for burying the dead when death itself could be reduced by improving the countrys medical facilities .it is like building a house where you ignore putting up the foundation and the walls and you want to erect the roof.So let this guys improve the situation at UTH before providing transport to to take the body to chunga cemetry
How long are we going to keep discussing the same issues over and over again in Zambia? The fact is that hearse or no hearse, life must go on! That is why we never move forward as a nation because we waste so much time on unfruitful debates.
Do these people have better and more impotant things to talk about apart from these stupid hearses which nobody can even clearly justify the reason why they were bought in the 1st place. Yaba pa Zed napo…awe
Mr Musune, If you have nothing to say, it is wise to keep quiet. How on earth can a manda manda improve the livelihood of the poor communities?. That is just misplaced priorities, whoever came up with the idea was thinking of fattening his pocket and not serving the poor community.
Your other point is valid, health workers should be paid their dues.
People are dying of hunger and they buy stupid hearses where does governments priorities lie.
Bloody Zambian Leaders

Do you fools here have any idea what a mobile hospital really is? That big fool here even says CFAO, Southern Sun blah blah can deliver mobile hospitals, u should be very foolish. If you dont know what you are talking about, please shut it!
Ba Kabwe, have you just woken up??? Don’t be hasty in calling people fools because you risk being called the same. People here are questioning the relevance of spending money on hearses (that are probably not even durable) in a country that has more urgent priorities, what is foolish about that? Your wisdom is scaring my limited mind
Now that the Gov has bought the Munda mundas, what plans have they put in place to control the number of infant death rates, drunk driving, be it (Drugs or Beer) and other causes of death, They need to open their eyes and see what is happening in the real world.
Are the hearses the mobile hospitals the govt has been singing about?
KABWE,
My friend you are not the only one who smokes marijuana.a lot of guys and girls smoke but it does no confuse them that like you.who said anything about procuring mobile hospitals from CFAO or SOUTHERN SUN.or should we forgive you because you are a houseboy who was just stealing time on the internet as your boss has just taken his family out for a ride been a holiday?
I said hearses could have been bought from those companies maybe in your shallow mind you dont understand the companies been franchise holders can make specific orders to their parent companies for any type of vehicles.from hearses, ambulances to presidential limousines and sports cars.wake up you numb skull.
