MMD Spokesperson, Ben Tetamashimba, says the resignation of Defence Minister, George Mpombo, from Cabinet and MMD as chairman for energy will not threaten the ruling party.
Mr Tetamashimba said in an interview with Journalists in Livingstone today that Mr Mpombo allegedly failed to organise the party on the Copperbelt.[quote]
Mr Tetamashimba also expressed doubt that Mr Mpombo would recontest the Kafulafuta parliamentary seat in 2011 elections because in 2006 he was imposed on the people.
And Mr Tetamashimba has reiterated that President, Rupiah Banda, is the only credible candidate to stand on the party ticket in 2011.
He said all those people in the ruling party who were saying that the race for the MMD presidential candidate must be opened were not credible.
Mr Tetamashimba observed that even when the ruling party goes to the convention, no one is going to stand for the party presidency apart from President Banda.
He observed that Patriotic Front, PF, leader Micheal Sata has stood for the presidency for three times as the sole candidate and wondered why no one has questioned his position.
“Mr Sata has stood as President for three times in this country, why haven’t you asked him why he is the only one standing?,” he asked.
Yesterday, Defence Minister, Mr. Mpombo announced his resignation from government and the MMD National Executive Committee, NEC, citing personal reasons.

Mpombo has resigned from a govt. position and not a party one, and as such, Teta is not the right person to make any comments concerning this matter. His boss has declined to make any comments until he studies the resignation letter but Teta just had to be the hero of the party and run his mouth off as only he can do. His reasoning about the convention is a complete joke, the MMD might as well save themselves time and money and not hold the convention altogether if Mr. Bwezani is the sworn sole candidate of the MMD.

Continuing on I thus recommend that MMD NEC elects Vice President George Kunda as its veep balancing leadership. This move could ensure that their is good protocol between various party chairman officials, e.g., Minister Teta. for information, and the party president together with the party’s vice president.

Though the no convention politics is a tradition brought in Zambia by Sata’s 9 self imposed tyranny and now HH, MMD is set for the convention but the winner remains RB who has marshaled national wide solidarity support.The rest will just be wasting their time or exercising their constitutional rights which are guaranteed and well protected in MMD political space.

At times politicians behave as though they got no brains. The basic definition of democracy is that people must freely exercise their rights. I am sure the MMD constitution does say that the president’s position is electable and that there’s no imposed picking of a president. Those in NEC and external to it that have intent of standing for president MUST come forward and contest. Certainly not every Jim and Jack has to go through. A filtering mechanism MUST be in place to weed out those that do not have the credentials as outlined in the party constitution. The MMD party is due to lose people’s respect and is bound to fall.

My comment on Mr Teta is that we will always have people like him whether we like or not. There’ve been others like late UNIP Copprbelt Memeber of Central Committee, Alexander Kamalondo and late MMD Lusaka Province Minister, Christopher Chawinga. In some sense, even Mr Sata falls within this group except that he is just an “upgraded version” (to president rather than ministerial level). Their common negative is “quick puking” of infor hence most of it is not intelligently digested. Only once did I hear an intelligent analysis from Mr Teta when he said the youths voting for PF (2008) claimed they were not in school coz of MMD. CHITAMBO PF REJECTS CANDIDATE FOR BY-ELECTION

THE Patriotic Front (PF) in Chitambo Constituency has rejected a parliamentary candidate chosen by the central committee to represent the PF-United Party for National Development (UPND) pact in next month’s by-election.
However, PF spokesperson Given Lubinda said it was not up to the district or constituency officials to decide on whom to adopt as that decision was supposed to be made by the party’s central committee.
Chitambo Constituency PF chairperson Gershom Mukosha said in an interview that the pact would not win the by-election because the senior leadership had ignored the advice to field a local person.
Mr Mukosha said the selected candidate, Chanda Mutale was not a local person and was not known by the people of Chitambo, making it difficult for the local leadership in the pact to accept and campaign for the man.
He said the people of Chitambo wanted a Philip Kosamu to be adopted because he was a well known person in the area but that the PF leadership instead decided to co-opt him into the central committee.
“It is not even true to say that Mr Mutale is a businessman who shuttles between Lusaka and Chitambo and we are even challenging the PF leadership to come and show us which businesses this man runs in Chitambo,” he said.
He said the PF members in the constituency wanted somebody “approachable” like Mr Kosamu to be adopted and not one coming from afar with little…
