Govt is looking for partners to work on Chingola-Kitwe dual carriage way

Share

The first phase of the feasibility study on the construction of the Chingola-Kitwe dual carriage way has been completed.

The study which was conducted by Rankin engineering was completed last week and has been handed over to the ministry of works and supply.

Works and supply minister, Mike Mulongoti, says experts are studying the report and the next phase of research may start soon.

Mr. Mulongoti told ZNBC news in an interview that government is still looking for partners to work with on the road project.

He said government hopes to complete the second phase of the study by the end of the year.

Mr. Mulongoti also said the road sector has been adversely affected because of inadequate funds.

He said there has been a reduction in funds allocated to the Ministry of Works and Supply and this has affected the implementation of projects.

  1. This is great news if and when it materialises. The Kitwe-Chingole Road has been the death highway for a long time.

  2. A story has to be created when 2001 is drawing near. This time the Chingola road. It seems a good idea but mulongoti you are good at talking of things that can’t work.

  3. How many lanes will the road have? I hope it will at least consist of four lanes,to accommodated the heavily loaded axles (trucks hauling copper). We have lost so many lives on that road.Good move by the government.

  4. Am so sure that project will only start when the elections will be around the corner, alot of people have died on that road, the idea to expand is very good I will pray day and night so that my home can have a proper highway

  5. Do developmental projects have to stall when it is elections time?i thought each goverment has to be judged by it’s past achievements.

  6. The idea is great, even the idea to link the atlantic sea via angola was brilliant but the problem is that these type of projects never materialize

  7. statements like “may start soon”….”still looking for partners” …”suck especially when you are talking abt one of the most important roads in the country and one that has claimed lives the most because of its current configuration. In places where we work if my subordinate came with such report full of dodgy excuses and doubtful deadlines its a sign of gross incompetence and poor performance…

  8. Lived and travelled on this road early in my life please have a 21st century road ,not an imitation of ndola-kitwe road.

  9. Guys why should these guys take so long on this road..people have really lost lives on this road and governement knows about this.I doubt is what Mulongoti is saying can be implemented because Zamtel has put its fibre cable on the other side of the road and on the other side thats where there is the Chinese economic zone project.Anyway lets wait and see….

  10. This project is long overdue. A lot of lives have been lost and equipment as well. The quicker the better. I hope this will be completed in the next two to three years. Why each time look to donors? Let us learn to do certain things on our own.

  11. Thank goodness!! at least something is being done. I had a horrifying experience driving through that road in November 2008…

  12. If you are sayin the cables are on the other side and yes I remember the chines stuff on the other side I doubt if this project will take off. next month I will be home on the same road chali kale CNC

  13. Good Move if they want a Partner they should just ask KAPOKO to help out i understand he is a Billionair. Should just take to him properly.

  14. Is Engineers Association of Zambia still there? this is a story walk the talk in Mulongoti in charge of ministry of Supply?

  15. Why so many feasibility studies before the contractor is even found? When the contractor is found, he still have to do his own feasibility study on the same road!

Don’t say “we are looking for partners” say “We are looking for donors”!

  16. Another dreamer, i have heard about this news several times and nothing tangible is going to come out of the study, it will take ages before they come back to us, forget about this until we see contractor on the said road.

  17. This is road that makes you say your last words to your family and update your will before riving on it. It is a death trap!

  18. bufi, how many times have feasibility studies been conducted on this road? anyway if this materialises then it will be done by the chinese.

  19. Partners? What type of partnership are they talking about?

Do they mean donors or bank loans or private investor who will charge road users for driving on his road?

  20. I have heard this before.Infact even before Enock Kavindele bought his farm (Mukulumpe Farms) and before NFC built their smelter plant. Now with all these projects going on at the main road linking Kitwe and Chingola I don’t see this idea materializing.

  21. Its all day dreaming unless we see it materailse then we can say amen and close our eyes. Otherwise same politiking by our so called leaders.

  22. What about Sabina- Mufulira Road. Strange a lot of Copper passes through this hell of a road, Where does the Money GO?
