Over K 100 million public funds misappropriated in Mungwi

Share

Over K100 million meant for health programmes is alleged to have been misappropriated at Mungwi District health office in the Northern Province.

And police have launched investigations into the matter.

Highly placed sources disclosed the development to Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Kasama yesterday.

The sources said the alleged misuse of the public funds was discovered during the retirement of the same funds.

They explained that the funds in question were supposed to be used for HIV/AIDS activities and other health programmes in Mungwi District.

They said audits carried out at Mungwi Health office, revealed that the health funds were diverted for personal gain at the expense of the intended projects.

The sources further claimed that the officers linked to the financial scandal allegedly failed to give satisfactory answers regarding the whereabouts of the diverted funds forcing health authorities to report the matter to the police.

And the police are said to have intensified investigations into the matter.

Police sources said the financial scandal at Mungwi District health office was being taken seriously and that suspects would soon be prosecuted.

The police said Mungwi District Director of Health Grace Nanyinza and other health staff have since been questioned over the alleged misappropriation of health funds.

The sources however, could not identify names of suspects in the financial scandal as investigations were still going on.

Efforts to get a comment from Northern Province Police commanding officer Charles Lungu and provincial medical officer Dr. Fabian Kabulubulu failed by press time.

Recently, the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) uncovered a financial scam at the Ministry of Health involving over K27 billion.

  1. Tonga bull!!!numero 1 today huh??You would wish thats how you were coming out in class ehh??

  2. whats this crap about being first to comment, sometimes i really wonder what frame of mind some bloggers are in. Now to comment on the news, one wonders what really is going on in the ministry of health and whether there is any ministry that is truly accountable. Every week or two there is a scam involving colossal amounts, which evidently means there is rampant pilferage going on in govet, particularly in the ministry of health. The govt should think of doing a serious audit on their systems and tie up the lose ends, the system must have too many holes in it that have been identified by fraudulent accountants. Zambians are suffering because of this and it’ s sad all one can think of is being first…pathetic actually..

  3. A few days ago Kapoko complained that he did not understand why he is being detained while Dr Miti who is heavily implicated in the Ministry of Health scam is walking the streets freely. I suppose everyone knows why this so, remember Dr Miti’s letter to the president.

No one will ever be convicted over the scam including Kapoko. Look at Chiluba’s case. This is how it goes in Zambia.
