Zambian Swimmers have continued to exceed expectations at the ongoing Rome World Swimming Championships.
Zain Jordan smashed the Zambian Record for the 100 metre with a new time of 52.92 seconds.
In the same event, Mark Thompson won his heat and reduced his ‘Personal Best’ time by 3.26 seconds.
Jade Howard continued her record breaking spree by setting a new National Record for the 50 metres Back stroke in a time of 32.92.
Danielle Findlay continued to improve by reducing her Personal Best Time in the 50 metre Back Stroke with a new time of 34.92 seconds.
It is not clear if Zambia swimmers are using the polyurethane-based swimsuits that are being given a new tag as technical doping
New records have been set practically by the hour this week at the world championships because of the use of these swim suits.
There are already international calls to ban these suits. Former swimming great Janet Evans, who competed for the US at the height of East German doping era, said the high-tech suits made a “mockery of the sport”.
Evans said swimming’s governing body, FINA, should act quickly to ban hi- tech suits that gave extra buoyancy.
“It’s technical doping,” she said.
She said there should be recognition of records set before the buoyancy-aiding suits.
It would also be nice to have a name like Mutinta Mulenga on such a platform in this sport.
The names dont matter as long as there Zambian thats all…There doing a great Job Congratulations guys doing the swimming and i continue to offer you the best of luck…and the good use of your skills..What about Ellen Hight isnt she there?
I was expecting names like Mwansa and Mulenga, anyway Zambians come in different forms nowadays…
You misunderstood my point. We need to excite other Zambians to join this sport! You know what I mean. It is not a negative comment but one inviting for dynamism the way SA is trying to do in rugby. Indigenious Zambians should embrace other sports.
#1 Ba Ethel in which century are you living? You seem to be a very backward person.
Indeed they come in various forms. Even among indigenious people, no one would have thot Southerners would embrace soccer and have 6 players in a game:Bakala,Mweene,Himonde,Hachilensa,Nketani,Simbuluma,Hachipuka!things are changing….
The quota system in sports doesnt work. It is either you are good or you are not. The USA basketball team is usually all African American. So are the sprint races. Swimming on the other hand tends to be dominated by white Americans. It will be s..t..u..p..i..d for US authorities to politically engineer their teams. It will only lead to the fall in quality.
Please let us desist from Xenophobia. Zambia is free for all and everyone should compete fairly. We need to set a good platform for dual citizenship by embracing Zambians of all races.
Its amazing how posters 1-8 have missed the gist of this story. Learn to read guys before commenting. The story is about these broken national records could be fake and high tech swim suits were used to break them and I think that is the point about this story
Why dont these guys break world records? Seems we are content with minimal achievements. National records count for nothing at a global meet like Roma09. Let them break world records and score awards for Zambia. Period. Ifya mashina eyfo ni small talk. Naba Chale no bize bize pamashina!
#9 I think they are,in the main, reacting to someone who made comments about the composition of the zambian swimming team! #9 You are the one who has missed what they are arguing about.
Ethel/Nine Chale. Shani. I hope you don`t think I am being awkward. Blacks can never and will never be best swimmers hence the reason we will never have Chiti, Mulenga, Hakuchitashani uko. Just like the fastest man will always be a black man. I can explain it to you if you like.

What a lot of Bull…t!! Zambia has produced competent black Zambians that have done wonders for the Country. Leonard Ngoma (Now in the USA) competed in Malaysia way back and broke the Zambian Record in Breaststroke 100m/ this record still stands. Chisela Kanchela now living in Australia holds more records from major events such as Olympics/commonwealth etc. Victor Malwa swam the English Channel as the first ever Black man and has set the record. Zambia has more potential black swimmers that can do as well as our own medal potential Zane Jordan (training in Australia), who is very very Zambian.
The truth about swimming in Zambia/general is that the sport is very expensive and the lack of critical investment by the Government/stakeholders hinders progress. Ethnicity should not be used as a justification of one’s nationality. Whether white/indian, black etc, the issue of nationality is baseless an arguement. Black people can swim and quit posting unqualified statements. Word of advice – do not read Entine’s Book- Taboo that argues that black people cannot swim. Read about the history of sport to find out why black people dominate, track events,. boxing and basketball. Also look up why there’s a dearth of a blackman in aquatics, ice hockey, Rugby Union, Rowing, etc. There is no physiological reasons for blacks not to swim as good as other races. The reasons are purely…
continued from # 15….the issues arepurely socialogical.
