Updated: Zesco United secure a win in Sudan

Share

Zesco United coach Fighton Simukonda has said wins in their remaining three Caf African Champions League Group A games is vital to keep their semifinal dreams alive.

Zesco recorded a historic away win  when they become the first Zambian club to win away in Sudan after beating El Merreikh 3-2 in the two sides third Group A match.

Zambia under Patrick Phiri were first to win in Khartoum when they beat Sudan 1-0 in an African Cup qualifier in 2002.

“I am looking at winning the three games so that we reach the semi-finals,” he said.

Simukonda said it would be a beat leap forward should Zesco beat El Merreikh on August 30 at home in a match that is tentatively scheduled to be played at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.

Zesco will later travel to Kano Pillars in Nigeria on September 13 before hosting Al Hilal of Sudan in their final game a fortnight later.

A first half hat trick from Jonas Sakuwaha handed Zesco their first Group A win.

  1. Who are the scorers for ZESCO? Good job. All ZESCO need to do now is win both games at home and force a draw with Kano Pillars and then the job is done.

  2. BIG UP ZESCO .BIG UP BOYS.. EVEN IF YOUR EMPLOYERS ARE SHUTTING DOWN THE GENERATORS YOU DID NOT SHUT DOWN YOUR MUSSLES.WE THINK RB IS SMILING BACK HOME …PLEASE BIG UP TO ALL ZESCO SUPPOTERS.

  3. congrats boys for making us smile. these boys have the determination if only they can be accorded the chance.SORT OTHER PROBLEMS AND LEAVE PITCH WORRIES TO THEM. good score line .

  4. I would also like to Congratulate our 100m Runner at the world Champs. Gerald Phiri has done us well by posting our new National Record at 10.16. Gerald you have made me proud. You may not win any medals but surely you have a great future with dedication and hard work.
I will be watching closely your Race in Semifinals. If you can sneak in the finals..It will be a Gold Medal for Zambia..just making the final

  5. I was dissapointed with the unruly Khartoum soccer fans’ behavior. I just hope FIFA will do justice upon recieving the commissioner ‘s report. I had a way I would have rcommended that no game should be hosted in Khartoum. It was really bad fgor team and officiallsto carry out their duties. Stones were hurled at players .

  6. Well done boiz! Genuine smiles are not eazy to come by nowadayz. The job iz half done, with two must win gamez at home, I can see more sincere smilez on Zambian facez

  7. this is the same news reported on the bbc news,i thought ba LT will publish the scorer for team ya ziko.I’m disappointed with the report ba LT.N-way bravo Zesco

  8. Congrats ZESICOLO, at least something to genuinely smile about Zambian football. Iwe chi****la nambala #12 you are so full of complaints ..just enjoy the victory it does not change who won an who reported. Fact is ZESCO won and let the party begin

  9. Well done Zesco.
My advice to Zesco Mgt is to remain focused.
Do not ALLOW those THUGS at FOOTBALL HOUSE (FAZ) to interfere in strategies. REMEMBER,you went to SUDAN without ANY of their OFFICIALS.
This shows that you are a good Mgt Team than those CRIMINALS.
    All they want are ALLOWANCES.
Make SURE they dont come NEARER or else they (FAZ) will disturb your PLAN.
FAZ is disorganised at the MOMENT.
It is a GANG of CROOKED BUSSINESS individuals operating in the name of FOOTBALL.

  10. Bravo Zesco. I watched the game up to the end, the boys started well and ultilised their chances well. A word of advice to Kamwandi, that behaviour was uncalled for, the referee was right to flash a red card. Secondly the defensive strategy by Zesco was poor and could have cost them a draw. There is no way you can do away with middle field and pile everyone at defend but still allow your opponent to enter the 18 area. Its actual the goal keeper who saved zesco.

  11. ya just like the no.19 has said, the defensive strategy was quiet poor.no offside trap and the clearling was poor.thank God we won.viva ZESCO TEAM YA ZIKO.

  12. GOOD JOB ba ZESCO..(even though on the other hand your colleagues keep on shutting down the generator somewhere in kariba). Iyi nomba ebola….atleast bonse tule seke….konkanyenipo ifyofine guys!!

  13. LT check your history before reporting.Zesco are not the first Zambian club to win away in Sudan. In 1991 in the quaterfinals of the Mandela Cup after winning 1.0 in Kitwe Power Dynamoes went to Sudan and won 2.0.If i can remember properly scorers were Wisdom Chance and Kenan Simambe
