Weekend Scorecard: Renard Names Team For Algeria Game

Share

Herve Renard has made only one change to the team that will face Algeria in a 2010 World/Africa Cup Group C qualifier away on September 6 in Blider.

Midfielder Andrew Sinkala of German 2.Bundesliga side Augsburg is back after earlier receiving a call-up  from the Frenchman for the controversial friendly against Ghana on August 12 played in London that Zambia lost 4-1.

Sinkala, who has not played for Zambia in over 24 months,  including 10 other European-based players failed to travel for the game due to visa problems and they are all back for the match against Algeria.

The midfielder will take the place of Rainford Kalaba from Portuguese club Sporting Braga who is suspended for this game after accruing two yellow cards in the 2010 qualifiers.

Meanwhile, the home-based players all returned to training in Lusaka today that saw Renard call-up Konkola Blades left-back Maybin Chishimba to train with the team.

This is the former Afrisports and Green Buffaloes defender first senior call-up after previously featuring at Under-23 level under Peter Kaumba during the 2007 All African Games campaign and 2008 Olympic Games qualifying series.

Dropped for the home-based players who reported back to camp today was Buffaloes left-back Joe Lungu.

  1. give sinkala a chance the guy is a gud holding midfielder and thats what Zambia needs right, someone to add strength to the midfield. The team is gud. the coach jst need to pull the hears of our strikers to remind them where the goal post is situated.

  2. We have no scorers in the team except for the Katongos who score from the midfield position. Look at the strikers we have, Chamanga (never impressed me), Jacob Mulenga (no precision), Mayuka (no much to write about) Singuluma (still raw at his age when he should have been thinking of retiring). Herve Renard works hard and means well but he has no material to work with. I empathise with him.

  3. Buy Patrick Kabamba please imwe ba FAZ. Look at the Top Scorers chat. The Second top scorer with only 8 goals, get serious guys.

  4. Kalampa alebwela mu premier. Iye ba Ndola na Kitwe UTD sure….pull up socks. Bushe bola mu Zambia ninshi ipwilile fi. Remember the days of ….Katowando,Puma, Tools and hardware, Bomber, Kajiya, Libya, Beezzzz, mucofe, Africa abaleya, computer.. eish !
