LCC appeals for support in garbage collection

Share

Lusaka City Council (LCC) Public Relations Manager Chanda Makanta has appealed to residents of Lusaka to cooperate with garbage collectors and pay their monthly fees in order to keep the city clean.

Ms Makanta told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today that the city can only be made clean with concerted efforts from the residents.

She said cleanliness starts from residences and the task of garbage collecting requires money adding that the council needs money for fuel and to service the garbage trucks.

Ms Makanta appealed to members of the public to understand that the local authority needs huge sums of money and requires full support of the public.

Ms Makanta said it is disheartening that members of the public have a tendency of not paying because they take it that the service is for free.

She said the LCC has engaged third party enterprises to help with collection of waste because the city is too big for the council to handle.

  1. Imwe ba LCC, just ban the use of all plastic bags by shops. It should also be clearly stated that the importation of plastic bags will carry a heavy fine!! At least paper bags decompose.

You do not need forex to get rid of the rubish. I am giving you my advise free of charge. Next time I will charge you and deposit the money in the Zamtrop account!! You will then build a house for me because I will be poor!!

  2. And make sure you repair those bumpy trails that you call roads. You can never have a clean city with dusty trails and muddy puddles all over the place.

  3. How many spokespersons speak for Lusaka City Council? Today is Chanda Makanta, then tomorrow is a certain Henry Kapata…. How do they manage to pay them? Do they need a PR manager as well???

  4. This is what happens when kafupi sells council houses for political gain. One upon a time councils had money, but guess what kafupi sold houses for the price of bread. Why do people have such short memories? Chiluba, instead of paying $1million for ridiculous suits and shoes could have given that money to LCC. Now kafupi is back making noise, Zambians look out!!!

  5. Shouldnt this service be covered by the Council tax pipo pay, i dont understand why pipo have to pay tax for cos the roads are bad, no street lighting and trees and flowers are nolonger, so what really is the tax for., Is it for Kafupi and FTJ , Kafupi?

  6. When is LCC going to go green. Start by seperating bottles, plastics, tins from others in garbage collection and give consessions to those wishing to start recyling plants. As well fine shoprite and spar for dishing out those ugly plastic carriers. PF this is were you can show some vision instead just yupping about positions and the presidency

  7. Its unfortunate that Ms Chanda Makanta’s statements are sometimes misplaced. LCC is never serious. its has got depart of public health with environmental health assistants. One wonders what these men in white dust coats do. I have bin living in Lusaka since 1985, has never bin visited by a health inspector regarding my residence in terms of conforming with heath regulations. The chaps are just busy collecting rates for their stomaches. Let the council Zone the city and ensure that those households found dirty and dumping rubbish any how are taken to LCC fast track courts and fined. If a heap of gabbage is found in a certain street and nobody takes responsibility ring it and take estimation and charge residents falling within that area. We need to enforece certain things to attain…

  8. There is only one lasting solution to the garbage problem-recycling. If we had people with working brains, making good economic and environmental policies, this problem could have been transformed into an opportunity. Think of how many jobs could be created in the recycling industry and how much could be raised through PAYE
