The Zambia Police Service (ZP) has appealed to people who still have their vehicles parked at Police stations around the country to remove the vehicles from the premises.
Police spokesperson Bonny Kapeso told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today that since the inception of the programme the response from the general public has not been impressive.
Mr. Kapeso said the police have now embarked on a programme to locate car owners who have not made efforts to collect their vehicles.
He said police will not charge any money to car owners when they appear to claim their vehicles at police stations.
Mr. Kapeso said the removal of the cars involved in road traffic accidents and those just parked at the stations will help bring sanity in police stations around the country.
He said many police stations in the country do not look clean because of the cars that are ever packed in the premises.
A few moths ago, the Zambia Police Service called on members of the general public whose cars were parked at police stations around the country to find alternative places where they can park their vehicles .

Ok. Let me read this story
This order is really long overdue. However,it is also a livelihood for most police officers who were making something on the side as they provided private security services whilst doing ‘BOMA’ work.
Does this mean that people can not park their cars at the Police Stations overnight anymore??
UN wants new global currency to replace dollar
Especially ndola police
#3a and #4, are talking about the same thing? Just Jokin’
#5 I terribly like yo sense of humor… lol. U made my day!!
Fact is cars are not safe in Zambia, not even at the police stations. Last time a spare tyre was stolen off a vehicle parked at one of the police stations. What is needed are multi-storey parking houses as we have them in Europe. There are automatically controlled and are guarded 24hrs by some private security firms.
No 7, dont lie Cars in europe dont need to be guarded. do you have a car?
I’m just reading the post about Teta and the Burial thing in solwezi. One begins to wonder when politicians will quit using these humble and poor cadres for their sefish gain. kakafupi foinstance, why in the world would they condone violence at a burial site?
I feel parked cars at police stationS act as “POLICE STATIONS iDENTITIES”, especially in towns which you you have never been.
The whole security system is rotten bane in Zambia. Owning a vehicle in Zambia can be quite stressful as one has to constantly think about the safety of the vehicle as well as personal safety.
Why are the ZP refusing to guard those vehicles its their duty to do so. ZP especially in Lusaka should create room at Lilayi and tow all those vehicles and charge the owners. Such charges will help to offset storage charges.
I used to park my car at Chilenje police station and one morning I found the car perched on stones all tyres stolen. The cops there told me that I used to park at mine own risk.
#12 you are right, we have a lot of space. The ZP should summon direct to the owners of the cars in written. If the owner fails to come to collect the car in a specific period of time then the vehicle should be actioned and money go the police station for renovation.
#7 You are 100% correct. I had a battery and other spares changed on my bus which was impouded on the CB. Then again somewhere on CB a cop “borrowed” a packed vehicle which he later smashed and commited suicide after the accicident. The solution lies in ZP intensfying night patrols so that people can feel safe to pack their cars at their homes. As for impouding vehiles ZP should just give tickets for fines to offending motorists. But we all know that would only end up “jamming” the “ATM”
Maybe the difference should be where the vehicles are packed. Police stations have more space than police posts and that is where the line should be drawn. Where are people expected to park their japanese cars?
No. 7 uliwabufi…..cars in Europe park mumbali ya road. Do you have a passport????????????????????????????????????????????????
no.7 is in la la land
PARKING the car at the home is not so safe.ba kabwalala will come visit.anyway what an opportunity for a potential business.i challenge zambians to buy plots and to make them into commercial parking especially for the night.thats one area zambians have totally not invested in.it works, ask aba sungu
The Zambia Police only needs to announce that the vehicles will be sold to second-car parts and scrap metal dealers at the expiry of the deadline. In no time the owners of those vehicles will appear and collect them!!
All our traffic officers know is IMPOUND vehicles. they should learn to start giving fines,
Traffic police officers just impound cars anyhow, if some one’s car is diffective, why can’t you give he a month to pay than impounding the car since cars are computerised. In south africa pipo are given enough time to pay for their traffic offences but here we are forced to pay like hell.
