Extend your services to rural areas, First Lady urges NGOs

First Lady, Thandiwe Banda, has appealed to Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) in Zambia to extend their programmes to rural areas where more vulnerable people are found.

Mrs. Banda said NGOs should not restrict themselves to urban areas but should instead strive to reach rural areas to help the poor people.

She said NGOs should help fill the gap which government was not covering due to insufficient financial resources.

Mrs. Banda said this in Lusaka today when the National Christian Organization for the Disabled (NACODI) donated ten wheelchairs and ten pairs of crutches to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH).

These items are parts of the 100 wheelchairs and 50 pairs of crutches, which NACODI will distribute to disabled people in rural areas.

She has also challenged the NGOs to start identifying people in rural areas who are in great need of help.

She has meanwhile said that her office stood ready to help the less privileged people in society.

She has further challenged individuals and the business community to supplement government efforts in reaching out for the poor people.

NACODI National Coordinator, Arrival Chuuka said his organization was scouting for K36 million for the distribution of the 100 wheelchairs and 50 crutches to the disabled people in rural areas.

He said the organization has also sourced for 200 more wheelchairs from its partners in the United States of America (USA).

  1. TB , Was there any sun to be wearing the Sunnies , they look kind a bad, may be black ones would have been better. there dont match the colors of the dress.

  2. I thought MMD was going to help the rural areas since those from rural areas helped them to stay in power! Well said, Thandiwe, but you should remind your husband that he has the obligation to help those who helped himto stay in power.
By the way, why is it that this government only calls upon the NGOs when they have to assist it where it can’t reach? These are the same NGOs they accuse of supporting opposition political parties whenever they (NGOs) speak on issues that have a sour taste in the mouth of the government.
Thandi should not be surprised that the NGOs have concentrated their efforts in urban areas. There is equally poverty in Urban areas as in rural areas. Staying in Lusaka should open her eyes that just at the backyard of State House, there are people living in abject…

  3. She looks nothing special. She must come to london and come to Harvey nicol, selfridge and Harrods . That’s where I shop from.

  4. That is very good but tell the president to put into place proper infrastracture; before ngos can connect to rural areas. there is alot of funding given to govt for such works but money is just stollen in lusaka by our leaders what a shame

  5. AIBT in action already ka! shine! ba TB, you have refused to form ka NGO? how is RB going to clean his dirty money? ZAMTROP again?

  6. Mushota, good to hear you are still contributing. What has been keeping you busy. Can’t remember when I last saw your postings. Gud day. Ala ka thandiwe nenama yampanga baibepeshafye kwati ni mumbwe pakulolela ati inkalamo ingayapwisha ikulya inama aye asendeko amafupa. You must learn how to dress like Maureen Mwanawasa. We even feel ashemed to tell visiting friends that TB is the first lady.

  7. I am happy with your good suggestion our first lady. I am sure if NGOs can extend their hands into rural areas, things can improve.

  8. Ifimagogo, kwati grasshopper. You still spoke some sense though. Sometime sI wonder whether you discuss these things with your husband. He could use ur counsel

  9. Yaba no 9
I have been busy. I went to watch girly football if you know what it is, an irish sport that my boyfriend took me to. I was by his parents although they (paranets) have a thick irish accent, we somewhat got along. I get the picture they would not mind me being their daughter in law. I am so happy things are going my way. Thanks for asking as for Thandiwe for me i prefer to wear something designer ish, or atleast something annuasual as my bf will attest.

  10. “…start identifying people in rural areas who are in great need of help…”

The last time I checked the whole lot were in desperate need of help.

  11. B4 NGO should go to the rural-let Gvt go there. It has more resources thats why they to increase parliamentary seats.U the first lady must emulate former ladies.Go to shangombo and kalabo. Why not! lead by example

  12. BUT BAMAYO ABA TABAISHIBA KUFWALA. I WONDER WHO IS HER FASHION ADVISOR. EVERYDAY NIFUMUKULE FYAMA FOOTBALLERS, LOOK AT HER BIG SHADES ON A SMALL FACE. THATS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU GET MARRIED TO AN OLD MAN, YOU JUMP YOUR STAGE AND START BEHAVING LIKE AN OLD WOMAN TO MATCH UP WITH HIM. IN SEXUAL PSYCHOLOGY THATS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE THIS WILL BACKFIRE IN HER FUTURE AND WILL LEAD TO REGRESSION.

  13. I think Mushota and Thandi look alike lol!
‘thick Irish accent’ ha ha ha! The nosense still goes on the Blog.
When are you marrying the Irish dude?

  14. Please Thandi keep quite and let the politicians do the work, whats wrong with President wives in Africa, we dont hear from Mitchelle Obama!

  15. Welcome back First Lady from your luxurious holiday in Kenya ,Zambians need to see actions and not words. Should Zambians be voting for NGO’s rather than the Govt, NGO’s are not obligated to the do the work of the Govt, in short are you instructing the tax payers of developed countries to build Zambia, what about the Zambian taxpayers money where does it go, this is the question you should be asking the Govt.

  16. We are proud that you are back in your home country our first lady. You are most Welcome and take a rest.

  17. Ba Mushota I hope you are not running away from ukucesha by going for dem racist inlaws. Pipo on this blog have no pride for their country. What a shame!!!

  18. Anyway the whole country is the same……..and guess what they’ll just continue complaining and critising cause its the politicians’ fault. We all just critisize from the arm chair and dont do anything about it coz we think it’s not our responsibility to act. Too much talking ba mishino shenu do get off your behinds and make a difference!!!!!

  19. Yayi Amai Banda, mwakamba bwino. I only hope you can implore your husband to think like you. Maybe he could turn around people’s perceptions about his presidency

  20. Let’s not forget that we all hail from some rural place. So, let’s go back there and educate our people. But please don’t teach them about your corrupt ways

  21. i hope that the government will also step up in helping such NGO to clear the items like the donated items so that many more things can be made available to the needy and hence many people can be helped. it costs a lot of money to solicit and ship those items. the government has enough revenue to support such low budgeted NGOs. Viva NACODI.
