A private firm, called RAE will soon set up a hydro-electric power station in Chavuma District in the North-western province (NWP).
This development translates that the district will no longer experience power black-outs like in the recent past.
Chavuma District Commissioner (DC) Frobisher Fulayi disclosed this in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka yesterday that the investor, RAE has already conducted feasibility studies in the district.
Mr. Fulayi said RAE has also invested a similar power station in Mwinilunga at Zengamina within the NWP and government commissioned the mini-hydro power station in that district.
The DC said Chavuma has got abundant waterfalls where electricity can be tapped from and assured that the district is now a safer haven for investment.
He named the water sources as Chanda falls, Chonde falls as well as the Zambezi river that passes through the district from Angola.
He called on investors to go to Chavuma and set up various but vibrant economic ventures besides the Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation (ZESCO) because the district is developing at a rocket speed.
“Investors should not worry because Chavuma is growing at a fast rate like wild fire. Besides the national power firm, ZESCO, another investor RAE will soon set up a mini-hydro-electricity power station in the district,” Mr. Fulayi said.
Meanwhile, Chavuma district has received two new generators with a capacity of 9000 kilo voltages (Kv).
Mr. Fulayi said 450kv generators were received late September and the machines have already been installed in the district.
The DC assured that the district is no longer experiencing power-outages like in the recent years when ZESCO generators constantly broke down.
He commended government through the Ministry of Energy and Water development for aiding Chavuma district with two new generators as electricity is the vehicle to national development.
ZANIS
This is good news.
One wonders what this DC Fukayi is about a private investor called RAE (Rural Electrification Authority) and Zengamina Mini Hydro Power Station in Mwinilunga West was a brain child of the local missioneries through North Western Zambia Development Trust with funding of about US$1.3m from the UK. This man’s statement is misleading by stating that Chavuma is developing at Rocket Speed. Bwana DC get your facts straight before making a statement. The only other private firm to come on board is Mwininilunga POwer Company which is supposed to generate power from West Lunga River and supply to the District through a power supply agreement with Zesco. Kabompo Gorge (Wushingwe) south of Lumwana West is supposed to be developed by CEC and has a capacity to generate 45mw which is more than enough.
#2 Investigator. I have followed your comments from yesterday. You seem to know what you are talking about. Keep it up.
I am wondering about the calibre of these DCs. Just yesterday the DC in Mwinilunga or so was talking about pineapples and that he does not know why investors have not set up a canery.
With such ignorant leaders of districts, si there much hope? Mediocre leadership is so retrogressive.
