Consortium of political parties petition British Commission

Share

The British Government has been given a seven-day ultimatum by a consortium of political parties known as the Forum for Political Parties (FPP) on its alleged involvement in Zambia’s internal affairs.

FPP Spokesperson Charles Kafumba flanked by Zambia Direct Democracy Movement (ZDDM) National Coordinator Edwin Sakala, Party for Unity Democracy Development (PUDD) Secretary General Dennis Sichinde presenting the petition at the British High Commission in Lusaka today.

FPP sympathisers displayed a placard denouncing the British government with a message; “No British interference. Former colonialists respect our sovereignty,”

A Security Manager at the British High Commission, Tim Parkinson received the petition on behalf of the British government but refused to answer questions from both the FPP and Journalists insisting “No comment”.

Soon after presenting the petition, Mr. Kafumba expressed disappointment and accused the British government of having sponsored the civil society and some Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to gang-up and incite anarchy in the country.
Mr. Kafumba, who is also National Democratic Party (NDP) Secretary General, challenged the British government to disclose and inform the nation how much it has spent so far on funding the task force on corruption.

He said the case of former republican president Fredrick Chiluba is closed and appealed to the British government not to control Zambia any more because Zambians are capable of running their own affairs.

ZDDM National Co-ordinator Edwin Sakala charged that civil society and NGOs Chief Executive Officers are on foreign payroll receiving money from the British government to continue honking and causing anarchy in the country.

Mr. Sakala expressed disappointment that the British government has ignored the Geneva Convention which compels foreign nations to utilise diplomatic channels of communications and instead funded Zambian civil society organisations.

He advised the British government to stop funding the Task Force because the funds are from tax-payers’ in that country and could be channeled to key sectors of the economy.

He alleged that the FPP is aware that an individual prosecutor is getting 10 million British Pounds every sitting and another K100, 000 million salary per month for a Taskforce Chairperson.

He said the Zambian Anti-Corruption Commission is capable of handling and disposing off court cases.

He lashed out at the British government High Commission Tom Carter should be ashamed of himself because of his clandestine and continued utterances in the media advising him to respect the sovereignty of Zambia as a State.

And heavily armed security officers have sealed the British Embassy in Lusaka. Zambia Police Officers are keeping vigil at the British Embassy and the petitioners were not allowed inside and they presented their petition at the gate.

Meanwhile, the Citizens Committee (CC) has expressed disappointment that some civil societies are being used by Western countries to rise against the Zambian government instead of rising to the occasion to defend their country.

In an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today, CC Executive Directive Gregory Chifire suggested that government should depot diplomats who neglect to respect the sovereignty of the country.

Mr Chifire alleged that his organization is aware of some civil society and Non-governmental organizations that are receiving monies from Western countries to cause anarchy in the country.

Mr. Chifire said it is unfortunate that some diplomats accredited to Zambia have ganged up with some civil society organizations and NGOs in the country to de-stabilize the internal affairs and governance of the nation.

  1. The issue of CSOs is being blown out of proportion as a cheap campaign to protect selfish interests. In an active democracy Civil Society has a strong role to play to ensure check and balances. U cannot expect everyone to be quite at what is going on in Zed otherwise the country will be doomed. its healthy to have opposing views especially on important national issues. No wonder the government has introduced the NGO bill to silence CS so that the selfish would have it all. its really a shame on a young democracy like ZED…

  2. by the way no permit was granted to this group extension of MMD. the are more zambian than others. Police sealed off the embassy instead of denying them the so called permit which other political parties never get from the police… interesting…

  3. And the Govt is sitting comfortably watching the cadres slowly potentially souring relations with Britain. The world saw how the Govt acquitted Chiluba and how the Courts which are controlled by Govt are dragging on Corruption cases at Min. of Health and other Ministries. Very sorry!!!!!!!!

  4. £10 million pounds????!!!!Where do they come up with these figures. These people and their petitions just exposed their dullness. They were upset that thy did not get a written reply from Gordon Brown himself and Tom did not come out to meet them. Can you imagine the whole prime minister with better things to do sitting down to pen a reply for these shameless bootlickers with the trivial pettions. Let the british close up that embassy and with draw funds-since Zambia is full of mentally disabled leaders, will see-and then we will se who these same Sakalas will be singing to be saved. What f o o ls! A bunch of dull chaps, they dont even know what they are talking about. What an embarrasment!!

  5. We need Regime Change!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This country is being led to the Abyss by the MMD government.
How can a grouping of pocket political parties be allowed to demonstrate gainst the British Government for a non-issue? This is a Zambian government sponsored scheme and is an eye-opener to all co-operating partners of what is to come. We can see another Robert Mugabe being born in Zambia hence the need for quick action by the civilised world.
All donor countries should FREEZE ALL AID so that this corrupt regime gets to its knees.
    2011 is too far.

  6. I just arrived in Kasama last night to campaign for PF and the first rep[orts I received were that the MMD had gone on a spree slaughtering buffalo and distributing the meat to villagers in exchange for their voter’s cards!! This is a scandal wellknown to the ECZ but as usual they are in the MMD pockets and will not do anything about it.

  7. Lies and illusions in Zed

  8. CAPTAIN SOLO,
We will appreciate regime change.but idiocy and foolishness is the thought of thinking that one michael sata is the alternative of that regime change you are calling for.

  9. Thank you FPP. Please keep up your patriotism. At least there are still Zambians who can stand up for their country’s sovereignity. Do not worry about Tom Carter not coming out to receive your petition. He wanted to avoid the embarrassment of getting a tomato thrown in his face, or maybe a shoe? But I know his fears are misplaced, you guys are not that uncivil.

  10. You see there are many Zambians who have learnt about colonialism and detest it. We do not necessarily support Chiluba, but this is a matter of sovereignity. Brits, keep your noses out of our affairs just as we have kept ours out of your BAE bribery affairs.

  11. Are there no better ways of handing the petition than give to a security guard? These embassy guards are Zambians working for security firms. With the economy so bad, he probably used it to roll and smoke something or as toilet paper.

  12. Natalie #10 and #11. Whilst you are bragging on about this story . Can you please find money for the Ministry of Health. The article below in LT states ” Ministry of Health accuses donors” .You go and find that money if you are going to criticise EU countries. Their concern and criticism is constructive….You forget the people you support MMD have ruled for 20 years sold most of the industries under Kafupi which KK (UNIP ) built in each province. Left Zambia to depend on foreign aid . NOW this same MMD is criticising the donors who provide money for the hospitals and education system.

  13. I wonder who is trying to bring anarchy between selfish government sponsored briefcase political parties that displayed their ignorance today and our cooperating partners who are concerned about the wellfare of an ordinally Zambian.

  14. Natalie is part of these corrupt MMD leaders. She is cancer to a viable society. I say this, she is part of those relatives of these crueless and visionless crop of leaders in MMD govt who want to fight the donor community. A normal people will think in a sober way and read between the lines why Mr Carter questioned the aquittal of this smallest drop of a thing in the ocean. Chiluba still remains a thief and a murderer whose legacy will remain as the person who stole from the poorest. He killed thousands because the hospital had no money to buy meds. Ministry of health is bankrupty due to lack of accountability and resposibility by those in the corridors of power. The speend billions of kwachas to go to South Africa for treatment on expense of the poor of the poorest. RB watch Chiluba

  15. people of Zed this is really shameful. This small issues mighty lead to civil war. Let not just look at these fools and do what they want, No!!. its time to act.  viva honking. Am really ashamed of the guyz on their act as its for their person interests. These guys are looking for Jobs in RB regime. RB dear you will be disappointed. Watch out.

  16. It is very sobering that most zambians see through this MMD GRZ and do not buy the fcuk about foriegn goverments sponsoring uprisings. No 11 Natelie, there is nothing wrong with constructive critisisim from pipo who spend their tax payers money on feeding a large part of our pipo. You are the same hot heads who blame the west for Zambias ills when FJT was busy stealing, now you dont want him to be accoutable. You want to again blame the west. You are a shameless parasite. Thak God the majority of us dont subscribe to your revolutionary fcuk. Forget colonolisim, Zambia has nothing to offer the UK but tears of underdevelopment. LT this poor reporting. Why didnt you mention that there was ony 15 pipo at this jobsickers demo ?

  17. #10 natalie.Patriotism does not mean allowing MMD and RB destroying the country. If you have done histotry you will be aware that a lot of Germans helped the Allied forces to dismantle Hitler and his Nazis. They saw that the guy Hitler was taking the country and indeed the whole world to destruction. This what NGOs are doing- to stop the rot that we are seeing. Please even if you are benefiting from MMD stop just for a moment and see what is happening around you- just for a minute.

  18. FPP is aware that an individual prosecutor is getting 10 million British Pounds every sitting and another K100, 000 million salary per month for a Taskforce Chairperson.

  19. 24LIVINGSTONE- Do you know what you are talking about 10m Pounds/? Just one sitting would guarantee you a comfortable life, your children their children and forever

  20. Please Anyone to carry on with Mwanawasa’s Legancy. These People have really Failed us We have such ignorant People with Politic Parties. God Please come down to earth we need you more than ever.

  21. # 25 Deja Vu, read the story written by LT very very carefully that is the statement, you are the chaps that does not read and you just blog.Grow and wake up chap. Are you part of those briefcase polictical parties protesting?

  22. # 22 Livingstone, pleas, dont belive everything you read. It was written by a person just like you, who could have made a mistake or is propaganding your head. If LT wrote that Sata had imported a nuclear weapon and was hidding it somewere in lusaka would you belive that ???
    Common sense and reasoning help.

  23. #19 Tetamashimba says:
Anyone to carry on with my legacy?

I think #10 Natali is doing well in your shoes.

As for these nincopoops FPP, there are no words to descibe them. It’s unfortunate that you always have fools in any society. And these are our very own fools. FTJ had his during the 3rd Term. RB is now having his and I am sure he’s enjoying it. Very shameful.

  24. Bloggers did you realise that only 400,000 out of the 12,000,000 Zambians who are employed, just imagine how much our people are suffering from poverty. our govt leaders continue to enrich themselves untill they bast their stomacks like the ones in those potos; just consider our president doesnt have a programme to create jobs but has got one to trekke the globe

  25. #27 LIVINGSTONE. I dont see what you are accusing me of. I read the LT story in full. My bone of contetion is that you seem to totally believe that Zambian or anybody for that matter is being paid 10m pounds per seating. Even the USA president does not even 1mUS$ per year so how can you actually believe that, And for your info I dont belong to any party and I cannot lower my self to support a corrupt govt just for 30 pieces of silver. #28kc has asked a question please lets us your answer insteady of being emotional.

  26. I like your opinions you bloggers that is democracy, im not a supporter either of this GRZ never, but i will support someone with a good national plan of job creation, free health plans, educ, maybe empowering locals to a proper economy in Zed.Any way have fun and im getting too exhauted it is too hot this end

  27. What a shame, a security guard received the petition of the MMD sponsored parties. Clearly there is no time for clowning around in the UK. On the whole, the petition will achieve nothing except to tarnish the reputation of Zambia. Zambia has really become a circus in the post-Mwanawasa era.

  28. With all due respect to FPP spokesperson Charles Kafumbu is a let down and does not inspire at all. He is an elder brother and was an inspiration when we were growing up in Mwinilinga and he is among the founder MMD members but the problem with his politics is he gets astray whilst others remain focused. FPP members I hope are not a paid mob to embarass the British Govt. The best the FPP could have done should was to pressure the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to deal with such allegations diplomatically than going it out as the “POst”med ” Brief Case political parties. Charles Kafumbu could be one of the big names in politics by now but he being spokes person for FPP is nothing but comedy. Charles should stop cheating himself politically the best he could is to rejoin MMD or PF-UNPD.

  29. Those FPP chaps were and are fake ones. They forgot to get full instructions from there sponsors the MMD on who was supporsed to recieve their petition at the Embassy.Honestly gentlemen and ladies, how could learned men hand their so called petition to a security guard and not the target, Tom Carter? This on its own is enough evidence to prove that they didn’t know who to give their petition coz to them any one at the embassy was a representative of Tom Carter so long he was white.Wake up Bwana spokesperson-Charlse-. Mule nashako nobututu!!!!
