Vendors cash in on fuel shortage in Chadiza

Chadiza district has completely run out of fuel. A check at SGC filling station, the only service station in the district, found the place deserted.

Station Manager, Musa Nanda, told ZANIS in an interview that petrol ran out on Wednesday while diesel dried up on Friday last week.

Mr Nanda said it was not certain when the service station would be supplied with the commodity although he made an order for both petrol and diesel last Tuesday.
He said he has been in touch with the suppliers who have only assured him that they were making frantic efforts to get a chance to load their trucks.

Meanwhile, vendors have taken advantage of the fuel crisis to cash in on desperate motorists.

The vendors, who are ordering fuel from neighboring Malawi and Mozambique, are selling a two liter container at K22, 000 while a five liter container is fetching as high as K45,000.

Some motorists, especially transporters, have parked their vehicles on account of the high fuel prices, arguing that it would be costly to run their businesses without increasing the fares.

  1. In serious countries energy & food shortages hinge on matters of national security. In Zambia it looks like this is no serious matter. Maybe now is the right time to launch an attack what do you think?

  2. Running a country like a akantemba!!!! No planning no strategy!!! Damn what is wrong with us Zambians!!!
