Weekend Scorecard

Share

The noise has already started on who is to blame for another shambolic qualifying phase for Zambia.

The plain truth is any remnants of any so-called football superpower status Zambia might have enjoyed is finished.

We have chased the mirage in the desert for too long screaming victory and now find ourselves a million miles from the nearest Oasis.

This is not the first time we have written about poor Zambia and its endless false dawns.

Firstly, don’t blame Herve Renard for this mess. He inherited it.

He was like an intern on his first day on the job in the emergency room trying frantically to save a chronically ill patient in the midst of a multi-organ failure.

Now I am hearing calls for Patrick Phiri to return from the same clique who forced him out.

That’s Zambia for you. This is the same Patrick Phiri who was allegedly accused of failing to read the game and not being hard enough on his players.

Today after three successive defeat we finally realize he is really the messiah.

We have to admit that just don’t have the material to even attempt to punch under our own weight anymore.

We have a team without a one world class player or even prodigy at junior level to brag about.

Moreover, the league is unwatchable and lacks an innovative coach at club level. That’s how deep rooted the crisis is.

Honestly, how can one call for the return of Harry Milanzi who failed at his peak and inspire Zambia to the last eight in at least three Africa Cup final appearances?

I have a warning for Milanzi including Signs Chibambo whose name has also been mentioned to be included in the team for his alleged exploits with Caf Champions League exploits with Heartland of Nigeria.

I heard the same said about Collins Mbesuma after his recent performances with Moroka Swallows about how much he had improved only for his forgiving supporters to turn against him after the Egypt game.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the Faz technical committee meets with Renard.

His future is said to be on the agenda after a record successive defeats in a World/Africa Cup qualifying match for Zambia.

It’s a circus.

  1. i would advise everyone to forget about Africa cup as well. dont have high BPs for nothing!! this ka team is heading no-were. we are just wasting our precious money. that money can be used for 2011 presidential and parliamentary elections!!!

  2. Rwanda needz an appearance at the Afrika Cup more than we Zambia. The three top names on the scorerz list have not even been called for tialz to the national team and we expect goalz?

  3. Herve Renard, Is a physical Trainner & NOT a COACH who brought along another Physical trainer as his assistance. My simple Question is where we looking for a Team which can score or Physically fit one???????? mind you football is serious business nowdays, SO Please wake-up ZAMBIA Look for a COACH…..

  4. I am really puzzled as to what the real solution to Zambian football is. Is it that now we have no players that can play football. How do other countries such as Ivory Coast, Nigeria Ghana manage what is it that they have that we do not. They say imitation is much easier than innovation perhaps we can immulate what these countries do, because honestly we have failed on our own.

  5. I think KK11 was great because under the circumstance we hand an inspiring leader in the name of KK. Kaunda inculcated in the minds of every Zambian then the importance of national duties. KK inspired a lot of people to produce results it is no wonder that a number of his ministers were not thieves like Chiluba’s. There was was fear for the man and that pushed a sense of responsibility. Nowadays our players have no real commitment nor the discipline

  6. its unthinkable to blame anyone on the poor performance of the zambian team. its largely due to lack of well built players, stature and stamina to face giants like egypt and algeria.

  7. Even if you fired Renard and brought in Patrick Phiri,Hose Morinho or Sir Alex Ferguson, the end results will still be poor performances. The national team player pool will remain the same and the usual suspects will be called upon to make up the team.
The poor performances are just a reflection of the low standards of football in the country. This is largely the result of bad administration from FAZ.To hit the nail on the head,it’s Kalusha and his crew who have failed to address the problem of declining football standards in the local

  8. Ala bane the blame game taibomba nangu panono please. Fact is forget about Angola, let us just support to our brothers in Rwanda so that they can go to AFRICON pantu pa Zed too much wasting money and no sense. It will give us time to re organise ourselves. Ba phisical trainner bena awe, anga ba Kalu ninshi batinine ukwikala as a coach? Viva Rwanda!!!
