North-western Province Police Chief calls for discipline among political parties

North-western Province Police Chief, Fabian Katiba has called on political parties to ensure that their cadres observe discipline during elections to avoid violent confrontations.

Mr Katiba appealed to political parties to support the police and cooperate with them in order for elections to be conducted in a peaceful manner.

He said if police are not given support and cooperation from political parties, whenever there are confrontations, police may be completed to use some force to quell the violence and maintain peace and order.

Mr Katiba said it is sad that political parties are always in the habit of condemning police when they are involved in confrontations when such acts of violence are caused by their cadres.

During filing-in of nominations in Solwezi yesterday, MMD and UPND/PF pact cadres crushed when they collided at Chawama market.

Mr Katiba said this during a plenary session at the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) briefing for election agents, political parties, media, monitors and observers held in Solwezi today ahead of November 19 Solwezi central constituency by-elections.

The Solwezi central seat fell vacant following the death of area Member of Parliament, Benny Tetamashimba who was also Local Government and Housing Minister.

  1. Too bad, this culture will be uncontrolled. Frankly, MMD cadres are a minority. Why not cage them,

  2. Arrest the MMD thugs for assaulting the PF/UPND cadres who were just campaigning.
You know the culprits, so the law should take its cause.

  3. MMD will win solwezi central, same voting pattern.uPND-PF cadres were clobbered because they are a minority.all you arse-holes thinking that there is a revolution for change in zambia have to think twice. rural dwellers have rejected sata and you urban dwellers who believe in more money in the pockets ought to appreciate that fact.

  4. Am new on this sight, where are my MMD pips? Ahh Akapondo..You are right, if it is tru they are more UPND people, they wouldnt have had to hire thuggs from Kitwe. Just check all those who were clobbered, were from outside, non of the locals got hurt. Whichever way, we shall wait and see, I would have been very worried if any of you people vote, because as at now we would have lost. The good thing is the locals vote, so we shall wait and see, us in the diaspora are just arm chair critics. Expressing divergent views! Please#6and7 do not send thuggs to clobber me, list I remove my revolver!lol!

  5. Those who play with the sword will die of it full stop But please spare the young generation, TUNASAKWILA MALAAA!

  6. MMD-thieves and their useless police dont know what to do. People are for cange just like in 1991 when KK was being told lies by Kamalondo and others, KK found himself out of power with shock. The same will happen to Nyama Soya. The writings on the wall are clear that MMD Kuya bebele.

  7. This police officer is talking like a politician. Or is he telling the world that he does not have the capacity to cage troublemakers? You do your job Mr Police officer and let the political parties discipline their members.
