Investigate and prosecute former Task Force officials- ZDDM

Share

The Zambia Direct Democracy Movement (ZDDM) says there is need for government to undertake investigations and prosecute those found guilty of abuse of authority in the disbanded Task Force on Corruption.

ZDDM National Coordinator Edwin Sakala says despite the many financial irregularities revealed by the Auditor Generals report, government has still remained mute over the arrests of the perpetrators within the organization.

He alleged that ZDDM was aware that former Task Force Chairman Marks Nkole had illegally awarded contracts to foreign firms in the United Kingdom without following the normal tender procedures but has not been arrested.

Mr. Sakala stated this in a press statement made available to ZANIS in Lusaka today. He said government must fully investigate all the financial irregularities and allow the law to take its course on those found wanting.

Mr. Sakala added that in the interest of justice, government through the Vice President should allow all the people injured by the Task Force operations through illegal arrests, prosecutions and seizure of their property to be given an opportunity to seek legal redress.

  1. What Edwin Sakala is implying that those who feel victimized by the Task Force should sue the state and arrest the likes of Nkole and others who were perceived to have abused their authority. This sounds like settling old scores. How can the country go forward like that. We still have TIZ and others caling for Chiluba’s blood. Now that TF has disbanded and its functions transferred to ACC, the move is good provided there is no direct interference from the appointing authorities. I hope this man Edwin is not brother to R. Sakala coz those have alot of issues to sort out with …

  2. It seems Sakala is a very bitter man, for what? I dont know. This organisation he is heading, is it registered? maybe yes but what are its objectives. all of a sudden a Sakala has been given talk time kaya niya 10pin zanis/znbc/times/daily

  3. LT you must also behave kaa. Dont just offload useless craps unto us no. Some craps should be kept between yourself and the person uttering them. Is that fine LT???

  4. ZDDM don’t bring Nkole into this Banda Bwezani madness on the task force. Nkole is an upright citizen and his works are greatly appreciated. Will fight corruption and continue prosecuting perpetrators. Watchout public workers!

  5. But gentlemen if tenders were awarded without layed down procedures, then the law must be applied without looking at faces. If Mr Chona was abusing authority then he must be treated like any other suspect.

  6. ZDDM must be serious with these issues. If they have solid evidence of abuse or anyone receiving kickbacks they need to avail that evidence to competent authorities or else they are colluding with Chona.

  7. Does he want revenge on behalf of the brother? Seek proper channels, you need to sue the task force i guess by suing government, since most of there operations where approved at the highest level in government. hope you know how long and how expensive that is. And be careful not to be mentioning names of people you are accusing, Dr Mathani is suing some fake ngo leader for making statements he cant justify, we hope he has the muscle to defend himself.

  8. This Sakala goon must be related to that convicted thief – repeat CONVICTED THIEF – Richard Sakala, the most pompous from the Kafupi Band of Thieves. Prosecutre and hang Chiluba first. his theft is the one that led to the formation of the Task Force. Chiluba, Sata, chibesakunda of Parliament – is that guy still at parliament? Leave Nkole alone for now. deal with the real mafia first. the others will cry and we’ll fish them out. But first, Rupiah and the MMD thugs must go, and a graduate who (like the late Levy) still remembers what he learnt at campus must move to Plot 1.

  9. Can someone tell me a little more about this a.s.s.h.o.le who calls himself edwin sakala? Who is she? What is his background? What has ever done in his life? Sounds like one of those professional a.s.s lickers forever inn search of a job which they never get. In other words, typical Zambian lazybone – no education beyond garde 7.

  10. #20, 21 and 23 – You may have a point there. Could well be that this d.ic.k-h.ea.d is a relative of that convict!

  11. Mr Sakala has a point, BUT if anyone thinks that they have been wrongfully arrested, they can have redress in the law courts. Sata just won a case like this. Only the courts of law are empowered to judge whether a person was maliciously prosecuted. Does Mr Sakala expect government to compensate anyone who is eventually acquitted? That is tantamount to anarchy. As for Dr Chiluba, he was acquitted criminally, but he still remains convicted in the civil case. This conviction will not send him to jail but demands restitution.

  12. MUVI TV reported over the weekend that they received documents confirming that alleged mismanagement of K76bn funds at ZRA has been reported to Cabinet Office, the Anti Corruption Commission and the Ministry of Finance. Today, the ZRA Commissioner- General Chriticles Mwansa distanced himself from the financial scam at the revenue house.
This gigantic scam apparently relates to colossal sums of money were paid to different companies and individuals for various services which were not provided to ZRA.

  13. Edwin Sakala is Richard Sakala’s brother mwebantu, so you understand where he is coming from.

  14. Mr Sakala if you have facts please avail the same to british or american authorities. For instance they will not happy that while they are funding the Taskforce, salaries of lawyers in zambia seem to surpass the bonuses bank executives of Europe and America. Please keep this debate going.

  15. Thius chap Edwin Sakala if he wnats to have people to be arrectsed for not following procedure in awarding tenders let it start with Dora Siliya then RB sons for RP capital. The can go on to those of Max Nkole. This tender procedure you are talking about was it to under go Zambia tender board if not waste of time. forget it. NO WITCH HUNTING let Zambians be thinking about how it can make the country health care better, how to have more people in employment, zero tolerencace on corruption etc. Dont be talking about crap such as the above story.

  16. Mr Sakala needs to press ahead and provide the authorities with the relevant details. If Chona & Nkole were not following tender procedures, they must be tried and proved innocent by a competent court. The key issue here is, they must be tried if there is sufficient evidence.

  17. RUPIAH IS AT HIS BEST says:
November 5, 2009 at 7:23 pmEVEN THOUGH THE ECONOMY IS FAILING, RUPIAH BANDA HAS TRIED HIS BEST TO FILL IN THE GAP THAT LEVY LEFT. WE JUST LOOKING AT IT FROM THE OUTSIDE BUT I AM MORE THAN SURE ITS NOT EASY FOR OUR PRESIDENT.IGNORANT PEOPLE WILL ALWAYS TALK BAD THINGS ABOUT ABOUT HIGH ACHIEVERS AND THATS THE REASON YOU STILL FIND THEM IN THE SAME PLACE AS 20 YRS AGO.
I THINK RUPIAH IS DOING A GREAT JOB! GUYS JUST STOP ACCSUING HIM OF ****** THINGS. WANNA BE PRESIDENTS WILL TAKE ZAMBIA NOWWHERE. I REALLY HOPE RUPIAH WINS NEXT TERM. HE IS MATURE ENOUGH TO HANDLE ZAMBIA AT ITS WORST.
HICHILEMA, SATA, KAVINDELE? I MEAN WHAT DO THESE WANT? COME ON GUYS?
THEY ARE SMEARING THE PRESIDENT AND HIS FAMILY IN ORDER TO GAIN WHAT? THE PRESIDENCY? THE DIVISION IS HERE…

  18. Would be sad if the people who led the Task Force were arrested but does seem funny that if they were prosecuting FTJ and goons for abuse they should then themselves go and ‘abuse’ government procedure all in the name of carrying out a mandate.
