First Lady Thandiwe Banda has donated K4 million to two women groups in Kavyane and Msumbazi wards of Petauke central constituency.

Speaking when she made a donation on behalf of the first lady, Petauke central Member of Parliament Dora Siliya urged the women to work together if their areas are to develop.

Ms Siliya said many of the households in Petauke and the country as a whole are head by women adding that empowering women would go a long in reducing poverty levels in the country.

She said the two groups had shown the willingness to work together adding that the spirit was good for development.

Ms Siliya said that groupings such as women and youth are the best way to develop and as such should be encouraged.

She said the first lady was aware of the difficulties women were faced with and as such she would always come to their aid.

Meanwhile Ms Siliya has called on teachers to work for the development of this country.

Ms Siliya who is also Education minister said there could be no meaningful development without the teacher.

  1. S t u p i d Siliya, that money you are donating is not from Thandiwes sweat. Remember she has been getting salaries since 2006 when RB became president. Govtment full of croocked fools.

  2. What is K 4 million mwe bantu pa Zambia? Atase, do you need to publicize when you donate Peanuts? Insoni, kwati pali ka 4million!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Why is Thandiwe always donating to people in eastern province, this government is promoting tribalism.KK worked hard to make one Zambia one Nation don’t undo his works please.Thandiwe next time I want to see you donating in my village Chitokoloki

  4. Mwe bantu! This is a bit weird! It seems every time the first family feels ‘charitable” it always happens in Eastern province! Kwena Zambia is full of trbalists and regionalists. All the three presidents after Kaunda have been tribalists. So in total we’ve had four provinces i.e Central/Copperbelt (Mwanawasa), Luapula (Chiluba) and Easter (Banda) prove that they will stop at nothing to promote and gain tribal advantage. We still have to see what the Southern, Northern , North Western and Western provinces will have to offer. I wont accept silly arguments that are not based on fact. Provinces that have been judged are based on practical experience we’ve had with their leaders. It is borne out of experience rather than prejudice!

  5. #3 ROFL nice one mate, that just made my day,,,in a rural setting that is a lot of money,it will definately go a long way,tho these donations should come in form of equipment to sustain the reciepients in the longterm

  6. Ime ba mamabala always negative about things and Life in general. How much have yourselves donated even to the VILLAGE you come from.Just also emulate what she has done to the people in need.MULEIKAKLA FYE NGA TA MU KWETE IFYA KU LANDA YOU NEGATIVISTS .

  7. Bauze Number 14. None of them have even donated a ngwee some of them can’t even give their own parents.

  8. 4 MILLION a drop in the ocean in Zambian , what sustainable project would one do with that money which can’t even bye a sweet mean candy….

  9. ON: “Ms Siliya said many of the households in Petauke and the country as a whole are head by women “, Siliya is trying to promote the trend of having children out of wedlocks. That is exactly what she is — a prostitute. She has children yet she is not married.

  10. This is Wako Ni Wako. The donations seems to be heading East Wards. Even last time it was some 2 3 Clinics in Chipata. Stop Kapatulula 1st Lady. We all need something from your charity.

  11. Nos 14 and 15.
That ka K4m is nothing compared to the free salary she has been getting. More over even the one who took it there could have done so for an allowance.

  12. Has this story been covered? “President Banda in Burundi today
    04 Nov 2009
BUJUMBURA – President Banda is today expected in Burundi ahead of the International Conference on Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) heads of State and Government round-table conference”. Flying again. Amanone! Tulibacabe! ..

  13. Kwacha 4 million, can you buy a used laptop with that much cash in Zambia? Is the donation from her own earnings? How much does she earn? And for doing what? Married to Rupiah Banda, is that a job? I am confused with African politics.. You buy a jet while your people go on empty tummies, You build a mansion for a thief who has screwed up his own people, stealing while they have shut their eyes to pray.. Zambia a Christian nation!!! Why not give him a mortgage to build his own house, and let him pay for it. Wake people of zambia

  14. This Bs should come to an end. Where does she get money to donate to anybody? Reminds of the story of the Congolese pygmy who received donations worth millions of dollars and kept them in a government account, thinking the government belonged to him. Where’s the national budget? Where’s accountability? ZRA, probe the First Lady. How much does she make in a year? Or did the money come from her step-sons, who’re old enough to be her husbands?

  15. Am so upset after reading this article but i will keep my calm. Anyways why should we waste tax payers money by transporting reporters camera men and the the MP herself to go and donate K4 million? Am sure the cost of donating that K4 million was more than the donation itself. Why didn’t the first lady quietly donate that $858.35 USD (as per today’s rate). And by the way did she really donate that money from her own pocket, i would like to see her bank statement showing the withdraw of that money from her account. The bible says let not your right know what your left hand is doing. And funny enough even churches are going on TV nowadays when they make a donation! I praise the Jehovah’s Witnesses in this area for their quiet and silent help to the poor people.

  16. As already pointed out by some bloggers, why is it that every time you hear about charity donations from this family (Thandi and company) it is almost always to some entity in the Eastern Province?!!!

I am sure this issue seems trivial to some, but as president and first lady, their domain should be the entire country. Guess what, like it or not, people have started noticing this seeming bias from the first family. Which is not very health for our ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION that the wise man KK worked so hard to foster in our country.

Next time let us hear you donated to some charity in Shakumbila, madam!!!!!!!!

  17. Ka K4 million is nothing to talk about. What is K4 million if it is a change for DORA? Now imagine thats the money they give to 1000 households, what a joke?

  18. Hey you lot baying for the 1st Lady’s head….just look at the comments. Aren’t you the ones seeking to polarise the Zambian nation. I mean look who’s talking, some comments written in Bemba! C’mon now isn’t that downright tribalistic arrogance assuming everyone speaks and understands the language? Aren’t people forgetting the Eastern province, that is, Chipata is one of the forgotten towns in the country despite its people being one of the industrious people in the country? You couldn’t even get descent public toilets even in Zambia’s heydays! Local transport poor although its people known to travel long distances. If anything, I reckon the churches there should take most of the credit for the progress made there.
