Northern Province Council of Chiefs Chairperson, Chief Matipa, of the Bisa people of Chilubi District, in Northern Province, has praised the government for increasing salaries for traditional leaders and their retuners.
Chief Matipa has described the increment as non segregative and a positive step towards improving the welfare of all traditional leaders in the country.
The traditional leader told the media in an interview that the support will go a long way in addressing challenges faced by chiefs in executing their duties.
“We are grateful to the government for caring for traditional leaders, we have seen that the government is not segregative, but cares for the welfare of all the traditional leaders in the country,” he said.
Chief Matipa has also thanked government for increasing salaries for Chief Retainers, adding that the support will improve their livelihoods
by enhancing financial stability.
“Recently the government gave us motorbikes for our retainers which has eased mobility and now their salaries have been increased. This will help them keep their families, “Chief Matipa observed.
He further thanked the government for the re-introduction of the Free Education Policy, enhanced Constituency Development Fund (CDF), continuous teacher recruitment, and the construction of chief’s palaces among other programmes.
“We have seen what the government has done since they came into power, we have seen the introduction of free education, teacher recruitment, construction of palaces among other programmes and this is a sign that the government cares for the people in rural communities,” he said.
Chief Matipa noted that programmes that the government is implementing are tangible and clearly indicate the government’s commitment to bringing development closer to rural communities.

Chiefs must first think of their people first before thinking of themselves. Poverty is at its highest since 1964 and you are here applauding at the expense of your subjects. Don’t you know that CDF is an MMD initiative and the new MMD might patent it. UNIP is also likely to patent free education.
And the rest of the people?
