Police in Northern Province are investigating a case of aggravated robbery in Kasama involving a motorcycle rider who was attacked and robbed of his motorcycle.
Northern Province Police Commanding Officer, Simunji Mulonda, says the incident occurred on April 21, 2026, around 22:00 hours in Musenga Township in Senior Chief Mwamba’s Chiefdom.
Mr Mulonda has identified the victim as Morris Silungwe, 33, who reported that three unidentified men hired him near BATA Shop to transport them to Musenga township.
Mr Mulonda has disclosed that when they reached near Musenga Market, the suspects ordered Siwale to stop, struck him on the forehead with an iron bar, and fled with his unregistered Kinglion motorcycle valued at K25,000.
He said Silungwe sustained a deep cut and is receiving medical treatment.
The Northern Province Police Commanding Officer added that investigations are underway to apprehend the suspects and recover the stolen motorcycle.
He expressed concern over rising robberies in Kasama that are targeting motorcycle riders, particularly those operating unregistered motorcycles.
Mr Mulonda noted that just days earlier, on April 17,2026, another rider, Patrick Chanda, was robbed of an unregistered motorcycle in similar circumstances.
He observed criminals are targeting unregistered motorcycles and that it is difficult for police to trace them.
He has urged motorcycle owners to register their motorcycles with the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) after clearing with the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA),” he charged.
Mr Mulonda further urged riders to avoid operating at night in isolated areas and encouraged the public to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
