Kafue District Commissioner Winford Ngoma has ordered head teachers in the district not to allow grade nine and twelve pupils to hold end of year parties.

Mr. Ngoma has also warned bars and night clubs in the district not host such parties as those found doing so will be made not to renew their liquor licenses.

He said his office has already received reports that both grade nine and twelve pupils were already organizing end of year parties in some night clubs which is illegal.

He said government some three years ago banned such activities as they encouraged mischievous behavior and caused unnecessary problems.

Mr. Ngoma said pupils should not conduct themselves in such behaviors as writing junior and high school examinations was not the end of life. He said young people should prepare themselves for the future and by behaving responsibly.

Mr. Ngoma said there was nothing wrong with pupils to end their examinations by just going home and stay with families instead of going drinking and misbehaving in night clubs.

He said his office has already engaged state and council police to watch out for bars and places that want to host such functions.

Mr. Ngoma also took a swipe at owners of bars and nightclubs for allowing such function as it was encouraging underage patronage. He said government will not be happy with such owners and will not hesitate to revoke their licenses.

  1. #1. Guess you haven’t heard of accidents and the sexual abuse that go with such parties. In any case, why hold the parties at nite whenthe can be held during the day?

  2. Pupilz cannot come up with such ideaz without the blessing of the school administration. So the caution should start from there, no headteacher must allow any such functionz at their premisez.

  3. Good points Mr Ngoma. Well these parties are sure recipe for anarchy and should not be allowed to go ahead. What usually transpires is immoral. Violence, sex, insults among other things. These chaps need to just go home and thank God that they managed to write and finish their exams. They should go home and think about the next step they are going to take now that they are free from academic pressures for now.

  4. #2, Observer, if you read my post carefully, my views aren’t different from yours. Most likely you misread the word ‘generation’ for government.

  5. In those days, we used to have ‘teentime’. The disco for teenagers would start at 14 hours and end at 18 hours sharp. ‘Night jam’ was strictly for over 21s. Now these days, even grade 9s are having night parties! All these leavers’ balls serve is to enable teenage girls and boys get drunk and lose their virginity.

  6. #6, Areaboy, those were really decent old good days, I remember even at times some parents would drive their teenage kids to teentime jams and pick them up after the dance was over at 6pm. I was at DK Tech. Sec. Sch. which was stricly boarding and a boys only school at that time. We would sneak out but would always manage to be back for evening roll calls. Days of DJs Eddie Groove, P-Funk and David Catfish. I don’t know if you still remember Moon city and Valentinos.

  7. Good Old Days Are Gone Times Have Change And The Revolution Won’t Stop Teen Pregnancy Teen Abortions Teen Tobacco & Drug Aduse Not Forgetting Alcohol Abuse At A Young Tender Age. The List Goes On………..These Are The Last Days

  8. Whats up with these kiljoys, Can t the kids be allowed to cerabrate their youth, You only young once and having a party is part of that growing up. These parties should be held at their school premises so that they can be monitored. let the kids have fun.

  9. Ninshi imwe? Just let us enjoy ourselves. Even in your days, you used to, so KUTULEKAFWE. We only have parties at night because our fathers and mothers are also out with prostitutes.

  10. I seem to be missing the point here. Why would a Grade nine pupil want to celebrate their end of year in a nightclub? What have they achieved to warrant this kind of celebration? Something somewhere has seriously gone wrong.

  11. maybe the schools should organize these things to take place on school premises coz its ok to celebrate after exams but its the how. don’t take this away from the kids just come up wit a better and LEGAL way to celebrate

  12. How are you going to show these kids that you trust them , if you can not even allow them to have fun by themselves?. There need for trust , then the kids will act like responsible adults.

  13. Give freedom to the young ones , they will just abuse it coz they lack that sense of responsibilty but grown ups will use it responsibly. my point is for grade 9s parties are not necessary but grade 12s maybe.

  14. Every exam is worth celebrating. Most schools have halls where these events can be held with surpervision, beer free and from 1400hrs to 1800hrs.Stop refusing others what you did just because you now have the keys. What do you mean they have not achieved anything?

  15. Banning the events is rather s*i*l*l*y. A better solution would be to chaperon the kids. Ask parents to volunteer to watch these kids, especially the ninth graders. Ninth and twelfth grade exams are a rite of passage and the kids should be allowed to celebrate this milestone in a safe and fun environment.

  16. Living abroad has shown me one thing. How responsible teenagers in Europe are compared to Zambian teens. They are trusted to attend such balls and you never hear this rubbish of banning this and that. Its all the fault of a faulty cultural system full of hypocrites and pretenders. How do you expect children to behave themselves when adults do not practise what they preach? Including those leaders who are busy exploiting young university girls. Talk talk talk! Its all you know how to do!

  17. THE YOUNG LADIES NOWADAYS HAVE OPEN BIG…. NTWENI, THEY DRINK LIKE FISH. BUT THE OLDER BALLOON TYPE HAVE SMALL ONES. MEANING THE YOUNG ONES BEING HEAVILY FEASTED ON. WE NEED TO SAVE THIS GENERATION, THEY ARE STARTING S.E.X TOO QUICKLY TOO YOUNG. GOD SAVE ZAMBIA.
