Mongu to conduct fish ban sensitization

Mongu District Fisheries Officer Numel Phiri has said the department will soon embark on a sensitization and awareness campaign on the forth coming fish ban.

Mr. Phiri said the department would start sensitizing fishermen and fish traders next week to wind up their fish business and look at alternative livelihoods like farming during the fish ban period.

He told ZANIS in an interview that his office was working with the Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) fisheries office on the program.

Mr Phiri noted that the sensitization campaigns are targeted at local leaders like the silalo Indunas to help them disseminate the information to their subjects.

He stated that they will also put up posters around town and also use
Radios Liseli and Lyambai to disseminate the information to the
community.
