Share

PRESIDENT Rupiah Banda is today scheduled to leave for Rome, Italy, to attend the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) annual summit.

Special assistant to the president for Press and public relations, Dickson Jere said in a statement yesterday that Mr Banda would join other heads of State and Government officials and was scheduled to address the summit on issues which would include food security and climate change.

On his way to Rome, President Banda would make a brief stop-over in Libya for bilateral consultations at the invitation of Libyan leader, Muammar Gadafi, who is also African Union chairperson.

First Lady Thandiwe Banda and Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister, Brian Chituwo will accompany the president.

  1. Kamwendo Panjila Bwezani.. At least he is making use of his lat days of being at state house. This man has no time to plan and work… Let us kick him out in 2011 if he is the one to stand on MMD ticket.

  2. Like always ukulu mutanki, leaving a lot of problems behind. When are the by-elections in Solwezi??? maybe he is running away from the outcome ama results he does not want to feel the shock.

  3. Please bring me some italian shoes, last time you traveled to chipata and solwezi you didnt even bring me an apple , uncle please

  4. The president knows the fate of MMD after its defeat. He is preparing himself for the second retirement after 2011. I hope VJ naisuka wire.

  5. Uyu ci-colour bushe, is he concerned with the problems in Zambia. Can’t a minister of agric attend this meeting. I will call Zambians fulls if this full wins the 2011 elections. Really he is just ripping whatever the proceeds are from the mines through what goes with garavanting.

  6. Peter Zambians are f o o l s already. They will see nothing wrong with this president spending most of his time in foreign land than in his office. The man doesn`t even know what colour his office is, but, he will tell you all about the office in Tripoli.

  7. Could someone please give us some statistics of Mwanawasa’s travels…so we can compare with the current president. Coz ayayi am begining to get convinced otherwise. Could it be we focusing on his travels too much that they now seem exorbitant?

  8. This is a tragedy, there is something seriously wrong with Banda, just why can’t he stay at home to attend to all the pressing and mounting national problems he was elected to resolve?

  9. When MMD was campanying in 1990 they used to sing at there rallies KAUNDA , KAUNDA VINDEKE VA MU PUSIKA. This is whats happening now.

  10. We dont have a president. Only a shadow is sitting in. We are ruling ourselves. I believe even those in MMD are now believing that Ruphia is a Gonga of the president. You cant understand the problems of the country as a president if you are always on the move.

  11. wat ever you say he doesnt listen…viva revolution 2011..we want change! we want change! we want change! we want change! we want change! we want change! we want change! we want change! we want change! we want change! we want change! we want change! we want change! we want change!

  12. Ba RB you are great man. What remains is to buy you wings so that you can fly yourself to mars and moon. The world is tied of your inspid trips !!!!!!!!!!

  13. No 15 Jooste, yes It would be good to look at actual statistics. I am not yet convinced that he has travelled more than his predecesor. So i would love to look at actual comparisons just be sure. Though I tend o agree with Nine Chale who is normally find quite reasonable when she says that travel normally goes with the Job,,, owever somebody gave me an interesting analysis recently. He said people characters, history and preferences will be exposed when they hold such office. KK was a son of a Misionary amd a former teacher and used to normally refer to the bible. He also was an advocate of education. While Chiluba was , we are told, once a conductor and did pay a lot atetntion to the informal sector and even had a vendors desk at State house. LPm was lawyer

  14. LPM was a typical lawyer, always analysing things from what I would call a narrow legal perpective. While Rupiahspent alot of time in diplomatic service and appears to be spend a lot of time on international relations. I hope for the benefit of the country

  15. # 15 Jooste,

RB’s trips are in the best national interest. There is no national problem that takes the physical presence of the head of state to solve other that his executive order issuable anywhere around the world..Government has ministries headed by Ministers and Permanent Secretaries.PS are heads of Government ministries who implement public/Government policies and not the Head of State.

About Mwanawasa: He visited SA 15 time, UK 27,China 11, Hong Kong 7, UK 10 times, Malaysia 6 time, Ethiopia 7 times.

  16. #32. Its got nothing to do with what you are talking about. The man is incapable and he himself knows that fact. Therefore, to avoid any attempt to start solving issues he takes it to travelling mainly abroad. Secondly, he is very much aware that unless it will be possible to rig he will lose the next elections abundantly. Therefore travel makes him earn a lot of money in allowance and what have you. But, people must understand that in no uncertain terms, he is stealing and he knows it himself. In the first place, how do people choose as a president an ***** who had no ambitions to become a president? ZAMBIANS, WAKE UP. YOU CAN’T SLEEP FOREVER.

  17. the big man is just running away from the by-elections….. as usual too coward to face defeat head on! wapya 2011 ta kwakabe ukwa ku butukila….

  18. Lets face it guys. RB does not fit in as a President of the 21st Century. The 21st Century and its demands are too sophisticated for the old man. He can’t cope and he knows it. And because of this frustration, he is finding solace in flying around. Let him just be bold enough to pave way for those who would steer our country in the 21st century. A President who ruled in the stone age can not be expected to rule effectively in the Information age. He is a frustrated man and as such a danger to our country.

The only thing he finds solace in, is his new toy the challenger flying around and actually he hates landing at Lusaka International Airport.

  19. No one is saying Presidents do not travel. It is the proportion of the travel in relation to how long one has been in office, and the relevance the trip, that is crucial. It is clear Banda has out done himself. It is also clear a lot of those assignments do not need the presence of a head of state. It is pathetic to say the least, for a President to think travel is what constitutes a large chunk of his job description. It is actually the opposite. A leader needs to spend most of the time with his cabinet at home, plotting a socio-economic war that will deliver most of the population from an impoverished existence. People live only once and deserve better. Banda is, and has always been clearly unsuited to lead, even at the most rudimentary level.

  20. Where is his office i want to see him visiting there.its been some time since he sat down thats why the knees are giving him trouble.pliz take your time and make sure you do all the shopping. grandpa. while you are doing the meetings my young sister Ka Tandiwe can do the shopping

  21. this chap rb must pay for his after 2011 elections. this is no laughing matter. his wife gets illegaly a double salary. and he is also going round illegaly selling strategic companies such as zamtel to foreigners. britain, america and others can allow china and india to produce software for their local companies and organisations. but, they will never allow a foreign company to run BT network systems because they are strategic to the country. doing so is like stripping you off clothes and let you walk nakedly in public without hiding anything. i thought red-lipped kunda were a legal chap to advice his paymaster on such security issues. kunda and his paymaster must pay for this breach of security.

  22. Many years from now, the seed that RB has sown will mature and bring forth fruit. At that time, many will realise that he was a good President.. KK’s government was like this in the first 5 years. The country was in a hurry to develop. Then came the Mulungushi Reforms. They were well meaning but soon after that we were hit with escalating oil prices and falling copper prices. What had been planned could not be fulfilled without borrowing. Operation Food programme came up. KK spoke for 4 hours to launch this. We expected to diversify our economy from 1974. Up until today, we are still talking about diversification. Now things are looking up! We are exporting maize to Kenya, donating to Zimbabwe! Praise the Lord!

  23. Those who suppot the globe traveller get a lot of tax payer’s money so Baf******** we shall catch you one day. The Fact is Kanitundila achita OVER

  24. What a lackadaisical president we have in RB. He is taking trips of braggadocio at the expense of the suffering Zambian

  25. There he goes again! This man has no shame, anyway he his days in office are numbered. What a pathetic situation? Has anyone seen his latest comments on Kafupi? This man is a damn disgrace to Zambia.

  26. Baneeee, For how long are we gonna complain about this *****, if you count HOW MANY days has he slept in that STATE HOUSE you would be shocked it may just be less than 30 in his entire presidence, WE CANT BLAME HIM, thanx to LEVY who gave him to US and the PEOPLE who voted for him last time

  27. I wonder how many Heads of State are going to Rome or will Rupiah be one of the few? SHAME SHAME SHAME. They say money or power doesn’t change a person it only magnifies your personality or character, in RB’s case power has magnified “ubupuba”.
