Don’t direct energies on removing MMD, Milupi challenges opposition

Share

Luena Independent Member of Parliament, Charles Milupi

Luena Independent Member of Parliament, Charles Milupi has challenged opposition political parties not to direct their energies on removing the MMD from power but offer practical solutions that will improve the economy of the country.

And Mr. Milupi has said politics of insults being perpetuated by some political leaders is not helping the country to move forward.

He says politicians aspiring to lead the country should convince the voters by defining their plans to move the country economically as well as programmes aimed at reducing poverty.

Mr. Milupi who was speaking in Mazabuka when he featured on radio Mazabuka’s Live Wire programme yesterday said it is disappointing to note that politicians are instead engaged in trading insults without offering solutions on how they are going to revive the economy once voted into office.

He said he had a discussion with the PF-UPND leadership but declined to join the pact because of the different visions for the economic development of the country.

Mr. Milupi explained that until the agenda for the pact is reviewed, he would not join the PF-UPND pact.

He said among the issues he raised were that he would only join a political party with national wide support and that gives confidence to the people.

Mr. Milupi urged Zambians to be careful with some political leaders engaged in trading insults at the expense of defining what they are capable of doing to improve the economy.

He warned that while some political parties have huge support, Zambians should not experiment leadership because some leaders may plunge the country into serious economic problems which will be difficult to handle.

Mr. Milupi who openly declared that he is capable of running the affairs of the country, however said, a new political grouping to be launched soon is an alternative to ending the high poverty levels and under development in the country.

Meanwhile, a named senior provincial PF leader and an MMD party official were spotted at radio Mazabuka and offered a lift by Mr. Milupi to a secret place where they had lunch together.

The PF official had difficulties to accept that he was a PF provincial executive committee member when asked by the presenter of the of the programme.

  1. mr sata or his supporters on these blogs should tell us about development in PF-UNDP held areas, instead of trying to cause arnachy. They can not do this because they are busy trading insults with investors and MMD. There is no meaningfull development in Satas areas. just shut up.

  2. Indeed. Chilufya Sata you were supporting the 3rd term for FJT, even arming cadres with pangas. Now you want to be presido by all costs. The problemo is sata thinks all bembas, who are the majority will vote for him. But bembas are not fools. if it walks like a duck, looks like a duck it must be a duck. We know what kind of person you are Sata. we will not not vote blindly. As one above says, you would be more noticiable by highlighting progress in consitutents held by your MPs. take photo opotunities with the post to high light completed projects in your turffs, not attending funerals and trying to get misquotes from old folks.

  3. mr charles milupi, shush. we want the mmd out, akalulu ni nsofu, kuya bebele.

  4. Milupi,

On this one you have shown sound judgement and wisdom of a self dignified rationalist spared by failure, opportunism, irrationalism, bitterness, jealous, unpatriotism and anti-Zambianism kaponya bigotry of morally bankrupt delusioned souls without a future but daily hallucinations in vanity.

    Renationalism, renationalism, renationalism, my foot!

We are the shakers and movers and pay allegiance to the flag, constitution, the zambian people and candidacy of RB.Unwavering as it were in 2001, 2006 and 2008 so shall it be but this time in 2011, its a landslide victory.

  5. Cheap politics without substance. How can a former minister bringout issues like a grade 7 pupil. It is time for change, we will only vote for educated, well informed people in 2011. I hope people like Dambiso Moyo can stand as MP.

  6. Sata praises Mugabe says he is his iconic mentor and model

Zambian opposition leader Michael Sata has praised the policies of Zimbabwe’s Robert Mugabe.

Sata, an illiterate populist who dropped out of school in Zambia’s federal Government sub 2 has been exploiting the popular discontent from day one with government economic policies and more the cases of Chiluba’s regime members from the bemba tribe. He has been calling the MMD Government as merely persecuting the the Chiluba camp because they are bembas. He has since pledged to drop all charges..

  7. Sata has opened declared that would follow similar economic and land reform policies to Mugabe in neighbouring Zimbabwe.

“What Robert Mugabe has done is sensible,” a grinning Sata (72) has told reporters “Mugabe hasn’t roasted any white persons. He has just taken back what belongs to Zimbabweans.”

Sata commonly known locally as “King Cobra”, has said he rejects the notions that Mugabe was mistaken to have seized white-owned commercial farms to give to landless blacks, a policy many economists say has helped drive once-prosperous Zimbabwe to its knees.

  8. “Mugabe hasn’t done anything wrong. It is the imperialists, the capitalist roaders who say he is a villain,” Sata has said. “The people of Zimbabwe are not suffering. They are much happier.”

Sata has kept repeating his threats that his administration would get tough kick out all foreign investors out of Zambia the Zimbabwe and Uganda’s Dada Idi Amini way.

  9. There are two kinds of people, those who do the work and those take the credit. It is better to be in the first group; there is less competition there.
    Indira Gandhi

  10. This Milupe man overrates himself, Ask Sata and HH..After trying now they are just working together. Join Miyanda, BY, Ngondo and Sondashi in one muntu party. These are even better strategist than yourself, who told you that being parliamentary public accounts chair is enough ground to gather presidential momentum? Join existing parties mwana!

  11. Ndobo you have made my day, floating on a cheap boat hahahahahaha. As much as I love Sata my Abigal Malamagreat Lusaka governor, that was funny. Chale holding up the wise quotes because our beautiful wise Abigail Malama is investing in her future and the betterment of our Zambia. I want all you bloggers to take a break from mental to keyboard expression and appreciate this, we are free in Zambia as compared to other Afro-nations we are free to pick sides freely even when we do not agree with veteran and patriot, or wonder at the books that 1984 reads we are the new Zambia. They more of us that get educated and come into cash the better Zambia shall be, because we are Zambia let’s not wait for the RB’s God has blessed us abundantly more than wecan ever think all imagine.

  12. What can we really say about a person who is full of himself and only wants to be an independent MP so that he is not answerable to anyone. Anyway, the Zambian constitution does not provide for an independent Presidential candidate so its nice that you have decided to form a political party. Hopefully not a tribal grouping.
What advice can the opposition give the government and be accepted? Are you really an MP in Zambia or have you been sleeping?
What would you say about ZAMTEL, Media suppression Law, Dorah Siliya, etc.?
Come on Milupi, just form your oppossition Party and lets hear your ideas and guidance for the betterment of our country.

  13. RB will continue ruling. He has the support of two former presidents; KK and FTJ. These two will help him go through without any problems at all. VJ will cause confusion in the opposition pact by creating some unnecessary divisions. Kunda will tell HH that he is being fooled by Sata and only he, HH, can lead the pact. People will be divided, votes will be divided and RB will win by 0.5% of the total votes. First past the line! Zambia will be in more problems and no hope for us the poor. Nichekeleko will be the order of the day until 2016. God have mercy on us

  14. In modern day Politics, the rulling party spends most of their time discrediting opposition politicians, and trying to convince the masses that they are running govnt affairs to the best of their ability, while the opposition is busy trying to convince the masses that they can do better than the rulling party, the rulling party would not take any advice from the opposition, the govnt takes criticism or advice with a pinch of salt…maybe you can tell us sir, since you in the opposition as an independent,,,what sort of advice have you rendered to the govnt…right now almost everyone is advising against the media bill,so far kunda seems to be deaf to that

  15. You need the opposition party to challenge the activties of the ruling party to have checks and balances. You have to be wise to over expose to your ruling opposition party your strategies as they can use it to their benefit to win the election. People like Sata and HH or aspiring candidates should have written books about their achievements, interviews on their belief system, radio interview to help people assess their character. Debates between RB and oppostion leaders on their visions on economy, health, controversial cases etc should be the ones they reveal their plans. That is the media’s duty to help Zambia elect the best leaders.

  16. #20 mind typo error meant to say not to over expose to your ruling opposition party your strategies as they can use it to their benefit to win the election.

  17. I like this guy, read the following “He said he had a discussion with the PF-UPND leadership but declined to join the pact because of the different visions for the economic development of the country”
Well, what are those differences that they had with the Pf-Upnd that made it harder for him to find some common ground and work together to bring some change in Zed?
Ladies and gentlemen, this is exactly what is wrong with our politicians, they behave like little kids.My idea is this and yours is that, so we cant work together.People, nobody has a monopoly on what idea will work or what idea wont work well.Ideas are just thoughts that could be both be wrong .If you are in Charge and you are Rupiah, what would you do if you find your ideas to be a total disastor?would you change them?

  18. In 2010, China is geared to surpass Japan and the world’s second biggest economy. The trade between Africa and China reached a record 106.84 billion U.S. dollars in 2008, up 45.1 percent from a year earlier. To date, China remains the biggest investor in Africa investing US $4.5 billion in infrastructure projects in Africa in 2008 alone. There is no factor more important than infrastructure in the development of any country so even though critics might claim this investment is only meant to facilitate the exploration of Africa’s natural resources, it’s also true that this infrastructure is going to be a catalyst for development besides exploration. Besides, show me a single African country that has even a medium term development program within which this Chinese investment

  19. can be channeled so that it percolates to every crack and nook of our society to benefit the people it should benefit, none! Sata is just a wolf howling against the Chinese every day and night but you ask him what the details of his first 100 days in office are and he is clueless, the only thing he wants to do is chase the Chinese away and privatise ZAMTEL. Within 100 days off office, god forbid he is elected, he will purgatorise Zambia to levels unprecedented. To me, the likes of Milupi speak more sense because if Sata and HH cannot have a shared common stance on the issue of China, one wonders what areas of commonality they have because once they are in govt. things could fall asunder. Banda is though not an option, the man is too old, corrupt, lazy and inert.

  20. “Zambian citizens should stop slamming insults at the head of state. There’s no need to speak evil and insult the President. Newspaper organizations that insult the President bring a curse to their country. It is ourselves who are going to suffer because God says that all leaders are appointed by Him. If your leader cannot speak well, you should pray for him and not insult your President. Leaders are indeed appointed by GOD no matter how they look on their face. I want to tell you that every leader is appointed by God, no matter their looks or background. It is therefore very dangerous to disrespect our leaders.” These were Shikapwasha’s words. I wonder how God could have appointed Banda then sent a monkey to defacate on his useless head. This statement is blasphemous!

  21. Well, so Emperor Bokassa, Mobutu, Chiluba, Idi Amin, Mugabe, Nguema, Miyanda, Abacha, Hitler, Pol Pot, Papa Doc Hitler, Nicolae Ceausescu, Botha etc were also appointed by God and should not have been removed from power so Shikapwanya’s logic goes. Ni kumu namizila chabe mulungu, he does not appoint anyone and this is an excuse i.d.i.o.t.s. like “Two Chickens” Shikapwanya use to prolong their useless stay in power. Sometimes one holds their breath just waiting to hear the s.t.u.p.i.d.i.t.y. that flows out of that big mouth and nostrils. Shikapwanya, like Banda, are both aesthetically challenged to the same degree and this seems to direcly correspond to their aweful deeds.

  22. Ba Veteran do not get excited. Milupi ( a good friend of mine) did not mean well. The MMD cannot accept any thing from the opposition , so the only way Zambia can improve is for some one to remove this MMD out of power. Charles knows that MMD policies are guided by cadres and not by technocrats, so no amount of advice will make MMD change its course.

  23. Milupi should first outlined the development plan of his constituency and how he has implemented it and the results. A smart leader begins with outlining his performance and how he hopes to build on it to change the bigger perspective of the country. Sata is the only politician who cites what he achieved when he was governor and minister. The rest of politicians like Lungwagwa and Dora Siliya just sing about there qualifications and yet most of them cannot use their knowledge to earn a living but still rely on tax payers to feed them. Its unreasonable not to make removal of MMD objective 1. Milupi has just joined politics and has just formed his party so he can afford to be in opposition for 10 years. We cannot allow MMD to rule fro more than 20 years. We can still capture west province

  24. Looking at Milupi since an article appeared about his profile in the Post last year, he stated that he would consider running for president in 2011. Its not surprising that he spunned the PACT, because he knows he stands no chance to become president in the pact. But, anyway, he should ask AKA with his former party Agenda for Zambia, where is it now? Milupi should just swallow his pride and join UPND. MMD can not be allowed to continue raping our Economy just because Milupi wants to be presido, when they could be easily removed by the PACT.

  25. Milupi was a good chair for the PAC.We can only hope he is able to perform as well or better in other capacities! Clearly though, he could be yet another disillusioned person, much like Nevers Mumba, Mwananjiti, etc, who is mistaking our admiration for their achievements in areas of their ‘natural calling’ as a sign of their popularity in general! Lest we forget, 4 all his tenure as MP Milupi has not been one to clearly state what direction Zambia should take! PAC was not a one man show and he was just Chair cum spokesperson! What Zambia needs now are leaders that will not just tell us the good things that we all want to hear but be able to demonstrate the practicality of their policies and how they are going to include us in national development!

  26. For the first time it is when iam reading proper educated zambians analysing issues. The analysis of Milupi makes sense because a party must have a vision of what intends to do when in power it is not just wanting to remove mr Banda from Power. When you compare Banda and Sata.Sata is a spoiler he is aiming to destroy what has been achieved in the past.Banda is improving what has already been done. that is leadership.

  27. At no time than now does Zambia not need time wasters and divisive elements! Milupi should be allowed to try out all his potential and as much as possible aim for the very top! However, as he does so, he should not be so careless as to deny the Zambian people the chance to put in place better leaders. And what we are looking for are leaders that are ready to put aside their personal beliefs and adopt a sense of collectiveness as a national agenda. There is no sinlge person or even political party that shoud claim to be the sole answer to national problems! Zambia is a diverse society! Milupi would do well to put forward his plans first befeore condeming others because he has condemned all others including MMD, PF, UPND and i have no doubt he would not say anything good about HP, ZRP, FDD,…

  28. #5, you seem highly overshadowed in your thinking by Dambisa Moyo’s achievements. She is not the only highly educated Zambian neither is she the most influential. Let her come home and stand as MP as you propose and you may never want to hear of her name again!

  29. The venomous attacks some lumpens on this site have directed at Milupi is a clear indication that indeed Samuel Johnson’s most famous quotation, and quote: “Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel” is still very alive and kicking among us today just like it was during his time. The point, as I always understood it, is that appealing to loyalty to one’s own country is the act of a demagogue, of one who will say and do anything to gain public approval and political power. Primarily, it casts those who disagree as unpatriotic, hostile to the institutions and interests of their own country. Honest disagreement becomes character assassination. Underneath the appeal is the exploitation of bigoted or prejudiced feelings of the masses. I salute Milupi for refusing to be bedfellows…

  30. with mercenaries like Sata and HH. For one, I see bedrock principles and not any lack of patriotism in this, only stinking scoundrels see otherwise!

  31. Sata was govenor of LUDC nearly 20 years ago and whatever achievements he recorded then have since been overshadowed by his recent actions of being the unmistakable face of Chiluba’s third term bid, assaulting innocents in Chawama, stealing party mattresses at Mulungushi, money laundering in South Africa, extortionate policy on China after Taiwan paid him to change diplomatic recognition from Beijing to Taipei, praising Sekuru Mugabe – a beast etc. His recent record is a trail of destruction like a tsunami and to skip this and bring to fore his LUDC so called record is nothing but tantamount to lunacy! One has to doubt the mental stability of any being that would vote for such an i.d.i.o.t. That’s though not to say you vote for Banda, he is worse.

  32. I FIND milupi a welcme breah of fresh air. Hi is mature , displsys integrity and is not given to imature statement. Unfortunately the pipo of zambia would rather a man like Sata or Given Lubinda. Pipo who are foul mouthed and know just how to move a crowd

  33. #41 I couldnt agree with you more, very few politicians are brave enough today to stand up and question Sata or HH, they remain silent in the hope of a position in the pact governement. I for one have tremendous respect for politicians like Milupi here, that can question the direction in which the wind is blowing. You do not just sail along because it is a wind of change, and be blown around like a feather.Bravo Milupi, you are right, join the pact when you know their economic agenda for Zambia. We will similarly only join you, when we know what it is you bring to the table.

  34. Leaders and policies are made by a people. Where are the people in this? ‘if you want the people to obey, starve them’ Thats the trend for years in Zambia and this has been since Kaunda’s reign. It is not even an influential president to think about, its his henchmen. Non-political organisations are more effective in bringing about change than parties and party policies! People are bound to vote at impulse with Chibuku and Ka mosi plus a Ka Pamela and 50grams of Kapenta syndrome. Everyone seems to forget that. The gimmick is that the government of Zambia never allows non political organisations such as FODEP to be what they stand for and always calls them to the political front knowing they will have the mighty of the ones in power to fight. This is the reason why political leadership…

  35. Is not a factor for change but an inspiration for discussion and direction. Why would remarks like these be doubted“We have decided to support the MMD during the 2011 general elections because of its sound agricultural policies from which the members have greatly benefited,” I can never trust Lyambai consulted openly to come up with this. Lyambai has an interest because thats the only way he will eat well. Party ranks are always looking for stooges to of influence, my poor father in the village is a peasant farmer and I am sure he has no idea he has been included in this bigotry. But Lyambai has no challenge because, nobody else will be allowed to carry out another survey about MMD agricultural policies. if you choose to differ, you are a gonner and you will not see fertiliser and you…

  36. will surely have to change your political support or continue to starve another 5 years. Shikapwasha has been hammering on the press because although the shareholders such as Mmembe have also demonstrated their bias for power for the sake of wrestling political popularity sooner or later, Shikapwasha is aware the press is normally a tool for the oppressed and is sure to turn things around if they work to expose the truth. The press allowed to flourish as a democtratic tool to freedom is more than what any political party can offer……Strengthen positive demonstration and whoever wants to be a leader, let them face scrutiny with Non Gov wings.

  37. How I wish the coverage of Milupi’s interview was more comprehensive than it is here. The interview lasted two and a half hours and the truth is, all the points that people bring up here, he actually addressed. On his achievements- he outlined the developments he has spurred in his constitutency. On why we Zambians should not direct our energies solely on removing MMD- he stated that we risk making the same mistake as we did in 1991, namely, rightly removing the dictatorship but wrongly replacing it in the incapable hands of Chiluba and co. As to whether senior members of other parties were joining him- he noted that all politicians were once UNIP and reiterated that each Zambian, since 1991 is free to align his/herself with any political party where they feel best enabled to…

  38. constructively contribute to the betterment of Zambia. As to why he is a “loner”- he stated that he was active in the formation of MMD and later on in UPND with Mazoka and so the issue is not one simply of pride, but he will not align himself with any party (not specificaly the Pact) for as long as he would fundamentally compromise his morals and vision for accelerated development, which is zambia’s bigest need. As to how this accelerated development could be brough about under his leadership, there are too many to list here. As i say, my only wish is that this article could have been a bit more reflective of the 2 1/2 hour interview including questions from the party. Lets call for televised debates or townhall meetings where we can all get the full picture of the visions of our…

  39. #48 is there a way you can link some of us to this interview, as I said above, a man who is not silenced by the hope of a job in the pact government, is worthy of my ear, then I will make a judgement. Brave man indeed!

  40. It is does not make sense to suggest that you can improve the economy of this country by merely advising the government. Party in power will never take any advice from Opposition. We know Bo Milupi should just remain in MMD. Making party in eleven hour will not help mother Zambia develop. Selfishness has made this country to be governed by minority government. I beg Mr. Milupi to stand as MP in his Luena constituence and see if he wont lose his seat on Pact. Politiking will not help Zambia. We need change and change can only come if oppostion can be united.

  41. #49, unfortunately I am unable to find a manuscript for the interview. However, this interview is by no means an isolated one, if you’re not based in Zambia, perhaps keep an eye in Zambia Blog Talk Radio on the internet where he’s had a interview before, based exclusively on questions from callers from all over the world.

#50, i think let us be careful what we label selfishness and politiking. it is common knowledge that HH and Milupi have sat down before to consider the possibility of his joining UPND. Whereas Milupi would freely align with Mazoka, and indeed with Mwanawasa, it is apparent this has failed with HH. Perhaps we should consider that the selfishness is HH’s. As for politiking, lets pay attention to the respective ideas put forward and then consider why collusion…

  42. …is not possible. And as for talk of the 11th hour- Obama went from his relatively modest achievments tomaking history in one year. Where the people are crying for change, and if you consider that there is a person who is able to deliver that change based on his visions and principles, lets believe in the power of honest politics and fight for that change. All I’m saying is that once we get the chance to hear what he has to say, lets assess him on the value of his talk, backed by his previous achiements.

  43. Bo Milupi, before we give you much more responsibility, kindly tell us what you have done for your constituency. If there is nothing tangible that you have done for the few people that you represent in Luena then dont expect us to entrust the nation in your hands.

  44. This is the first politician to make sense. Bloggers, what are the issues for 2011? Here is one from me; why do you need the army when there are no wars to fight. Can we afford to have an army? Can the money being spent on the army be better spent on providing free healthcare? Why do you need the airforce when the cost of running 1 plane per year can educate thousands. These should be the issues being discussed – allocation and use of limited national resources. You waste too much time discussing who is in what party, legacies and all manner of things that do not mean anything to someone in Chimbokaila. Wake up Zed!

  45. I find Mulupi not on Neauseating but a bit f….lish and worth of an id…iot. He should ask Sondashi who thot he support in his home and only managed to get less than 200 votes in his home. We care less what you have in yo brains and what wealth you have. If Milupi thinks he has the guts to stand as prsident let him do so. He may not even get what Miyanda and Ngondo got in 2008. He should not think Zambians are foolish. We know what we want and one day in 2011 we will get it. So to Milupi and all the other id….iots surrounding him try yo Luck then you will see what we shall do. teach you a political lesson.

  46. Milupi just go and sleep. We know you are jobless and we do not want to waste our precious time on jobless people who want to benefit from our sweat. Why can’t you join the pact so that you can be western province minister. Why are you wasting your time forming parties, your brothers such as Mbikusita Lewanika have tried before with their hiden agendas for zambia which could not take them anywhere. Some of you are fit to all the time be led and not to lead. Just join Sata under the pf which has no hiden agendas. You are most welcome in the boat. Kufuluha wayesu.
