Opposition trying to undermine government – William Banda

Share

Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) Lusaka Province Chairman William Banda has accused opposition political parties of trying to undermine government’s efforts to bringing about development in the country.

Mr. Banda accused some opposition councilors of deliberately diverting funds meant for developmental projects in the province to paint a bad picture about government.

He said Lusaka province is currently facing many problems because the people that were voted into leadership cheated people into voting for them to only enrich themselves.

Mr. Banda said the Rupiah Banda government was a caring government and is determined to thwart the opposition’s plans to make people suffer by working hard to improve their living standards.

The MMD Lusaka Provincial Chairman said this in Lusaka‘s Matero Constituency today when he addressed MMD members.

Mr. Banda has since challenged opposition councilors in Lusaka province to explain to the people what they have done with the K 2.4 billion that government gave them last year.

He accused some councilors of giving themselves plots instead of concentrating on working to better the lives of the people that elected them.

Mr. Banda urged Zambians to wake up and realize the real character of the opposition leaders and refuse to be used as political tools.

He promised to fight hard to ensure that opposition councilors account for the money government released to them, saying people should not sit back and let certain greedy individuals exploit them.

Mr. Banda further said government would continue to care for people’s welfare and has mobilized K5.6 billion through the District Commissioner’s office for disaster reduction which he said could be used to avert cholera and to clear drainages in the province among other things.

And Mr. Banda has announced the appointment of Tolilo Chipango as the new MMD Matero Constituency Chairman.

Mr. Chipango takes over from Severino Mangimela who is unable to carry out his duties owing to ill health.

Meanwhile, Mr. Banda has called on MMD leaders to understand the party’s laws and regulations for them to abide by these laws and also understand how government operates.

He warned former MMD cabinet ministers and other members against speaking ill of President Banda, saying they risk facing the consequences of their actions.

  1. INFORMATION and and Broadcasting Services Minister Ronnie Shikapwasha’s mother, Estelle Kaning’ine Shikapwasha, 95, has died after an illness.
She died yesterday at Lieutenant General Shikapwasha’s residence at Plot 377 Tehilline Road in Lusaka’s Ibex Hill where the funeral is being held. Gen Shikapwasha, who announced the death of his mother, said the funeral would be transferred to Mupundwa Village in Kembe tomorrow and burial is scheduled for Saturday.

Sad that your mother has died, but your absence as you mourn her will mean that we will be spared from your verbal diarrhoea, Mr General Shikasushi.

  2. ~~????????? Happy New Year ?????????~~

    ????????????????????????????????????????

  3. Saidi Hawali a.k.a William “Tekere” Banda, please don’t bring UNIP tendencies in the MMD. Walelopola abantu ifikoti for supporting the MMD when you were Lundazi governor. You are worse than a chameleon.

  4. While we Zambians are busy cheering our favorite politicos and jeering our least favorites, both sides are pursuing the policy of the destruction of Zambia.
We are being sold out. We are being transformed into a society of complete control, where those at the top completely dominate and enslave those below them.Zambians are being herded into pens like cattle. Why? Because of the phony left-right paradigm(MMD-PF/UPND) that mentally enslaves us all.

  5. On any given day you can find a news story that focuses on the conflict between MMD and PF/UPND pact, or Group A and Group B. These groups could be anything, but as long as they are toted as being the opposite of each other, they will clash. When one party supports a bill, the other tends to oppose it. This holds true for both sides, creating a never-ceasing battle over political parties, as opposed to policy.
The change in each party’s fundamental policies has been warped into an infinitesimally minute amount of distinction from one another. When one does not agree with the “MMD” stance, they generally lean towards a “PF/UPND” stance. The guise of the two parties creates a false sense of freedom and liberation from a structured ideal.

  6. The second republic single party system was a failure due to it’s inability to withstand a dissident attack. The third republic two-party system is simply the post-beta form of the second republic political spectrum, with the guise of liberty upon it’s aging fangs.
The war between MMD and PF/UPND diminishes the focus on real issues. A frighteningly large number of people will make all their decisions based upon their party leaders. The debate turns into left verses right, instead of what is best for the country. The media loves to turn everything into a matter of “party wars”, instead of discussing the actual issue at it’s core.

  7. Instead of thinking “left” or “right”(MMD or Pact), think about it from a human perspective. What will this do to our country? How will it affect me? How will it affect my neighbors?
Happy New Year to you all.

  8. For folks like me, it’s very hard to understand William Banda’s metamorphosis from a UNIP vigilante who used to whip those us who were founder members of the MMD with sjamboks to a fanatical MMD militant who wants to destroy anyone who is against the MMD!!

God indeed works in mysterious ways!

  9. The Unipist has reallys taken over the MMD.. The MMD is leading into a destructive path. Come 2011 it is dead an burried..I hope William Banda does not end up being deported to Malawi again/

  10. Even KK, like all other UNIPISTS, has now become an MMD cadre if you read what he said about Mpombo. He said:
“If you look at the squabbles which are going on in Zambia today, calling each other names, it’s shameful! I should refer to this, I was happy to see Mpombo who’s been barking like anything at Rupiah Banda…”
The MMD has been hijacked and turned into UNIP which we removed from power in 1991.
Now we need to kick out the MMD-Unip come 2011.

  11. Continued KK:
“And, yes the MMD are very angry with him because they’ve got concerns about him. He has a terrible language, Mpombo who was there in government! I think we should not accept this……”
KK says the MMD have concerns with Mpondo and in the same breath says “We” should not accept this….. So is he one of the MMD with concerns and has he officially resigned from UNIP?

  12. The big question is;

Has batata ba KK become MMD now? What has happenened to his UNIP and his children, including his notorious UNIP fire-brand Tekere Banda? Indeed history repeats itself and rightly so, as the Americans would say; What goes round, comes round…..

  13. Happy New Year to you all. Banda should address his questions to his MMD minister in charge of local government.

  14. Iwe chi Banda, you are very dull. Of course the opposition will always undermine you. (Hat is why they are called the opposition. And for the 2.4bn you are crying about, remember the removal of street vendors and who opposed it? Dimwit! Some of us are really trying to enter the new year on a happy note but with bull like this…

  15. This guy is going back to malawi in the next government he is a PI, i’m sure even Chiluba is not happy over this.

  16. For a party to have misfits like William Banda in it’s leadership just goes to show how useless the MMD is. He is a well known thug. As for Kaunda I really don’t understand why he can’t just keep his mouth shut and enjoy his retirement and wealth. As other bloggers have observed, Is he now MMD or he is rebuking Mpombo because Rupiah is his brother-in-law? The same KK during his autocratic 27 years dictatorship used to call us Stupid *****s, Was this acceptable?

  17. Mhhhh..its Zambia for sure. Banda willy has resurrected from hell. He will start whiping people for supporting the opposition.

  18. PATRIOTIC Front president Michael Sata declared he had won the presidential race by 55 per cent contrary to The Post’s projection that President Mwanawasa was headed for victory.

And Sata has accused The Post of having more minions whose wish in supporting the ‘criminal’ government of President Levy Mwanawasa had been shuttered through what he called a referendum by the people of Zambia.

  19. Mmmmm…. #21 What are you on about? Have you really read the subject matter of this blog?
Getlemen and women, lets remain sane in 2011.

  20. POST EDITORIAL IN 1993

”We have said it before and we will say it again that Michael Chilufya Sata is not fit to be a minister or hold any public office. Sata is not only a public nuisance but he is also a liar as well as a selfish, unfeeling and cantankerous character.”

  21. Ma Zambians!!the wool has been pulled over your eyes!!!William Banda in MMD!! in 1990 when he was a Unipist this man vowed he would crush MMD i remember very well, some people were working with him, even threatening city council workers of “disappearing” if they joined MMD.Sata knows these snakes, the good book says you will see them by their deeds and hear about them through their mouths, indeed time has come,UNIP is being ressurected by RB watch Parliament revoke that KK can’t be Prez, hey Laws are made by men and they can be changed, what the heck! they’ll do it just for fun, just watch, why do you think UNIPists are quiet!!!they are waiting for the sun to shine……

  22. In May 1992 the defendants published an editorial article in their newspaper stating that the plaintiff was a political survivor, and that in the second Republic ‘he survived vetting on several occasions’. The article stated that in 1990 the plaintiff’s ‘political prostitution’ prompted the former president’s decision to fire him. The article listed the plaintiff’s ‘thoughtless’ actions, including the razing of houses, his alleged order to fire striking workers, the alleged awarding of contracts to associate, riotous behaviour where some mourners from the ruling party were stoned at a funeral and outrageous or intolerant behaviour on television. The article referred to the ACC’s investigations against the plaintiff and it concluded ‘there is nothing “honourable”…

  23. ”Our national experience teaches that reparations breed hate and ‘that hate menaces stable government.’ Whitney v. California, [1927] USSC 131; 274 US 357, 375[1927] USSC 131; , 71 L Ed 1095, 1106 (Brandies, J., concurring). We should be ever mindful of the wise counsel of Chief Justice Huges: ‘[I]mperative is the need to preserve inviolate the constitutional rights of free speech, free press and free assembly in order to maintain the opportunity for free political discussion, to the end that government may be responsive to the will of the people and that changes, if desired, may be obtained by peaceful means. Therein lies the security of the Republic, the very foundation of constitutional government.’ De Jong v. Oregon, [1937] USSC 3; 299 Us 353, 365[1937] USSC 3; , 81 L Ed 278,…

  24. Next, the newspaper wrote that in 1990 the plaintiff’s political prostitution prompted the former president’s decision to fire him. To call a politician and a minister a political prostitute is clearly defamatory. Mmembe, the editor-in-chief and managing director of the paper, testified that the plaintiff was labelled a political prostitute for jumping from one party (the UNIP) to another (the MMD) and for having associated with the people in the MMD before he was fired. None of these explanations was available to the readers and they were neither offered nor was it indicated in the publication in order to afford the readers the opportunity to form their own judgment on the matter and to judge whether the defendants’ conclusion was competent or not. The reader was left to speculate.

  25. William Banda go back to Malawi your native country. We are watching you day in day out. KK want and you want to bring back UNIP through MMD. Kindly take my humble advice.Zambia is for Zambians and not foreigners. This time you will never return to Zambia after deportation.Atase iwe kaboke.
