FPP to petition Pope over conduct of some Catholic Bishops

Share

The Forum for Political Parties (FPP) says it will next week petition the Pope over the continued involvement of some Bishops in partisan and politics.

Forum Chief Spokesperson, Charles Kafumbo, said FPP will present the petition to the Pope Benedict the XVI (sixteenth) through his representative in Zambia.

He said FPP has decided to seek the Pope’s intervention in order to restrain some Bishops from participating in active politics.

Mr. Kafumbo disclosed this in a statement released to ZANIS in Lusaka yesterday.

He has meanwhile challenged the Bishops to come out in the open and announce the name of their political party or completely stop their involvement in politics.

Mr. Kafumbo said Bishop Duffy’ s attacks on government have openly shown that the Zambia Episcopal Conference (ZEC) is compromised and actively participating in politics describing the situation a shame.

He has since advised the church to stop making statements that incite people to rise against the government because this can be a receipt for chaos in the country.

He said the church is divine and should help in uniting the country and not be seen to be agitating for any form of division and chaos which undermines the country’s security.

  1. Why why why if this energy was set to the education and nuturing of our children Zambia would be floating. Or to the development of agriculture one can only wonder.

  2. You can even petition God if your want. The conduct of your ministers is very obscene and only those with a platform like priests can talk for us who have no voice. Mr. Kafumbo can you tell what logic is in giving market title deeds to a group of congolese mafia? This and many actions by your government are what is annoying the general population. Your party is resisting the 51 + 1 clause why? Because it knows that it cannot win a rerun and this is what is vexing me.

  3. Just Declare Duff Persona Non Grata and issue him with a 24 hours deportation order … back to Ireland or wherever he came from and life goes on……..Zed the real africa

  4. Please report me also today, am a catholic priest, and there are thousands of other priests who want to be reported to the pope. Please hurry up!!!

  5. And you think that the Pope has time for a country like Zambia? What a Joke!! The Pope has enough problems of his own if you don’t know, like, Millingo and getting knocked down in the Vatican by overzelous women. And you, you want him to see your petition? Lol! Let me tell you. You will go to his representative in Zambia, he will receive you, hear what you have to say (No tea mind you!), Receive your written petition, Thank you, have some guards escort you out and File the petition!! Chapwa. Finito! Kwasila! Kwamana! The end!!

  6. what is the mandate of FPP and who does it represent. we are sick and tired of these fly by nite sort of NGO,s . The Catholics speak for the oppresed, and as it is now alot of pipo are oppresed that is why it is speaking out. It spoke out against KK, Chiluba and it is speaking out against RB. even if Sata was president and started oppresing our pipo it will speak out. Why do we Zambians want to make life hard for ourselves, if the Vatican restrains the church, 10 , 20 years from now we will be crying for the church’s intervention. we have no vision in what we say , we only live for the moment.

  7. The reason these so called bishops behave as they do it is because we have given them all the prime land in the country and they bribe poor people with second hand clothes and some left over food from Europe.Whats happening in Zambia is not seen anywhere in Africa ,these people are up to no good. They are capable of starting a war then run away and later come back with blankets and expired medicines. These are heartless people church history can tell you all about this cult.

  8. Send those pedophiles where they come from.To hell with their salaula.Where have you seen a country develop because of katolikas? They are just a banch of thieves.

  9. Ba Yaya? how many catholic schools are in Zambia? how many orphanages? how many hospitals and clinics? you must be thankful. which other church can compare to the investment and work that has been done by the catholic. dont be an emotional hater, just be objective my man

  10. FPP should be MMD. Wasting your ****in time. How many Catholics are you going to have to report to the Pope. I am a staunch Catholic and what Bishop Duffy is the truth and we must appreciate what these people are doing for our own good. The MMD Govt needs rehauling and we must not run away from it.

  11. The concept of forum for political parties is mostly practised in east and west Africa. Normally it is a gathering of opposition parties that come together to exchange ideas so that they can come up with 1 united voice be it in parliament or in an election. i take the Zambian forum should be made up of opposition parties with one common voice. i am a bit surprised that this FPP seems to be siding with Govt and not with the opposition as is the the case else where. one gets to wonder if indeed FPP is not a wing of the ruling party

  12. The Roman Catholic Church is always active in politics and this will be just be a glas of wine for the Pontifical amabassador to Zambia. You will hear what the Pope will say. All these ghost organisations such as FPP are MMD thugs.

  13. Yaya this same MMD you support never complained when the Catholic Church sided with the majority of Zambians( MMD included) against the then Unip GRZ’s injustices. Lets have principles and lets not behave like water which takes the colour of its container. Things have become worse than in Unip’s days- now you have only 10% HOLDING ALL THE COUNTRIES WEALTH and these are MMD cadres.

  14. With all respect due to brother Charles Kafumbu, you have no moral right to petition the Pope over the comments by catholic priests. These clergy men talk what is happening day in day out in the society they serve. For your own information what have you done for your home village, Kakoma in Mwinilunga District? from the time you joined ZAF you have never stepped your foot there. You are living in Lusaka like a lost child. Its better if you have failed in some small political parties to rejoin the MMD so that you may be given a job. Accept your own personal failures in life rather than talking of petitioning the Pope. The other time you were at the British embassy and now condeming the Catholic Bishop. The church has been there with pipo and it will always there. Remember we had mighty…

  15. #16 DEJA VU,Tell me of any country in the world where you have 90% rich and 10% poor peoople. And where did you get these stats from,i hope not from Lenshina Micheal satana .Other curches have also contributed by way of schools ,hospitals and so on .It’s just that the katolikas have stolen wealth in the vatican which they use to corrupt poor communities ,especially in the northern and southern province where their influence is so much compared to other provinces like nortwest for instance.what they do in Rwanda and Angola these chaps?Their hands drip with blood of thousands of our brothers ,be very careful with things like farther Bwalya who are demon possessed.they are pure agents of the devil.

  16. Dejavu and Yaya you are both correct my brothers or sisters. All that’s is there though is that you are both passionate for the Zambian cause. Here is the one and only fundamental flaw Zambia has today I shall reveal it. Here goes. We have turned away from the Lord God Jehovah, the father of Jesus. Not badly but enough, our leaders at independence could not fully exibit compliance with their evil inclination because people then were generally aware of God. So still remains they case with most black people in general. If we as Zambians are to just acknowledge our creator and follow his commandments we shall be okay. Also Christians God commands us to work with our hands so as we honour him and not come to shame. Everybody read your history to know the truths about any church, yes the

  17. Catholics were ruthless in establishing themselves as a rich and powerful church. Invading Israel twice in the name of crusades, two major crusades there are more; just to establish politcal dominance because he who controlled the holy land controlled peoples minds. Reason why some people have their mosque on the dome of the rock. Let us pray God gives us a leader that shall be obidient like Samuel the prophet. Remember all things work for the good for those that love the Lord. By following God, in totality working hard, studying, educating our children, loving our wives, stopping the insane beer consumption in zed and keeping the great moral African traditions of family that God gave us shall we ever develop as a nation.

  18. #8 YAYA : Statistics at CSO show that 80% of Zambians cannot manage 3 meals per day. If you follow the way stats are conducted, you will agree that there is at least 5-10% missed out which can swing either to the poor to make it 90%.or the rich to make it 20%. By the way what is 10% of 12m? It works out at 1,200,000 and we know that less than 500,000 Zambia are in formal employment. This number has to look after hordes of opharns and widows etc so where does that leave you on the poor/rich ratio?

  19. We should watch our leaders, watch the churches, demand moral truth in Zambia now. Zambia is under attack at family level, so is the whole of Africa. Solidify all African constitutions against immoral western culture and it’s filth. Let me educate you my readers remember once I told you that amasungu exibit g.ay tendencies? Danny was right with yakumbuyo song. It’s the way of even their ancient peagan traditions, that which lead to their downfall in the past. Let us gain technological ideas from the east and the west, but keep our Moral stand and love our God Jehovah with all our hearts. I have been catholic, now a believing Christian I shall tell you that I too am a sinner that shall not let his nation go the wrong path. Invest in Zambia, buy a book or pay school fees for your brother…

  20. and sister. Diasporans with money buy some land and build a house or start a farm with a three bed room house complete with a Honda generator and design for waste disposal. Not all of us shall have money for acquiring land, though that should not stop any of us from investing in other parts of our beautiful nation. Send a laptop or PC with educational and parental control software to a school in Chadiza, shangombo, kwapatamayo luanshya, luena, Mukinge girls. All we do is blog but I am sending a few things here and there. Since the term petition has been thrown about, let us petition our God in combined prayer to help us purge our land of the evils of unwise leaders, corrupt individuals and Zambian procrastination. we are Zambia now, my question; what have you done for Zambia lately?

  21. Imwe ba kafumbo, you are exhibiting tendencies of maximum ignorance, or plain stupidity, or if you are indeed a clever man then you are being malicious. To imply that criticisng a government can only mean that one is supporting a specified political party is rather lower than shallow. Even for a grade seven student who is currently 12 years old.
Mwanawakwitu, though I share not your religious views I support your position.
