UPND-PF PACT sets guidelines to avoid repeat of Chadiza and Kaoma saga

FLASHBACK: Pact co-spokesperson PF's Given Lubinda and UPND's Charles Kakoma (r) during a press briefing in Lusaka

The opposition UPND-PF PACT has decided to establish guidelines that will ensure that what happened in Chadiza and Kaoma does not happen again.

Pact co-spokesperson, Given Lubinda, told journalist at a press briefing this afternoon that the confusion that occurred in preparation for the Chadiza and Kaoma local government elections was due to lack of set of guidelines in place to help uphold the principles the pact was established on.

Mr. Lubinda said the pact has however learnt its lesson from the experience and has even decided to forward the matter to what is termed as the ‘Superior Committee’ which is co-chaired by the two party presidents.

He assured Zambians that according to the agreement that was reached at by the pact working group, it was not necessary to withdraw anyone from the committees who would have allowed the separate filing in to be done.

When queried on whether the matter had to be transferred to a superior body, Mr. Lubinda explained that the only reason the working group decided to make this particular move is to help those in the senior body to learn lessons from this matter.

The pact working group which underwent a serious 2 day meeting to resolve this matter and find solutions to the occurrence have directed that no one else will make any statements within the party about policy matter except the two co spokespersons.

It has also been resolved that the 9 committees of the pact immediately complete their reports and submit them to the working group within the next two weeks.

  1. This is the first positive step! To realise that there are some mistakes and then go ahead and correct them!Viva pact

  2. Pact, who are u gonna sell for presidency. Whatever strength you now have is because you have both Sata and HH’s supporters. When you announce who the candidate for pact for 2011 is, then you are in trouble because you’ll lose close to half of your support

  3. #4 & 5 We have no plan, we have not picked a presidential candidate. S, how does that become your concern?

You MMD have not picked a candidate either, or have you? :d

because the MMD constitution requires a candidate to be chosen at the convention. Kavindele wants, Mpombo wants, and Magande wants too. Who is it going to be?

It is not pact’s concern which one you pick, yet you keep poking your nose in our business. Have you nothing to do?

  4. We will now wait for the real PF ‘spokesperson’ to issue an editorial on the matter so that we see what PF is really thinking of. Produce a joint manifesto and a shadow cabinet then engage MMD on issues then we will know the pakiti is serious. I still have my doubts!

  5. GOOD ONE….Very encouraging indeed.change is surely inevitable you guys better stay organized and more focused to give the people what they are drying for.

    CHANGE FOR BETTER.

  6. At a Glance:

I thought it was just my computer that has gone bonkers on me! Lt, really, do something about the toolbar in the middle of the page, it is very distracting!!

Anyway, good luck to the PACT! If this is a serious marriage that people have to invest their faith and hopes in, your resolving these thorny issues between the two of you is a first step to cementing that elusive public support you will need to unseat MMD. In-fighting will simply drive your ‘faithfuls’ away. What Zambians are asking and looking for is maturity and “level-headedness” (Sp) in our leaders—-and this is a good start!!!!

  7. hey…i would support the pact if i knew the president but as it is am scared cos it might be sata. removing banda and bring in sata is equal to no change. these are the same old folks who have been in govn for long time, since independence and they dont want to let other energetic people to take up leadership. guys 46 years after independence we cannot still be having the same people running our country. even those who were born after independence are old enough to rule. let us rest these folks, prosecute those who have committed crimes and send them to chimbokaila.

  8. Messrs Kakoma and Lubinda – it is not as simple as that. HH has given a statement on this confusion. Mr Sata on the other hand has remained quiet – this is very unlike of him and it means a deep rooted problem. Mr Kabimba, before any self assessment of the implication of what he was going to say, decides to issue a statement which is completely out of tune with anything real. Things will become worse when the two segments of the pact start losing by-elections in their respective “strong holds”.

  9. MAALAAABIISHHIII YEKAYEKA CHABE.CHOOSE A PRESIDENT AND LETS SEE IF SATA CAN BE UNDER HH AND IF HH WILL STAY WHEN SATA IS CHOSEN.THE PROBLEM ARE THE PARTY MEMBERS OF BOTH PF AND UPND WHO CANT AGREE BECAUSE OF DIFFERENT MANIFETOS AND IDEOLOGIES.NEVER THEY ARE BOTH SELFISH BASTARDS SONS OF A B!TCH..

  10. Patriot.
Don’t say you are slipping into an INSULTING FLURRY where you and your old man S.C claim you never insult anybody in your patriotic attempts at discourse on Zambian politics.

    Patriot.
You are not worth insulting as your brains have lowered themselves to an ironic situation all under your own steam.
MMD cadres are simply INSULTERS of the highest form yet never intend to be that way as it is a case of simple insecurity and frustration when the Pact survives another day.

Keep up the battle MMD Kaponya’s.
You are just a bunch of under educated back slappers and bootlickers.

  11. Mwata you are and id!ot.What do you know about politics i used abusive language because HH and SATA are abusing zambians when they know PACT is not going any where.what surving when they have failed to resolve stand off and two parties are nevertheless contesting and competing for the sam seats in question.MMD never panicks, its you who panic forming baseless experimental forces to remove us in the government but weeenyooo, pweeeeeeee wanyela kwateni tamwakatekepo basakalanyongo.VIVA MMD PANKHOLOKO,KEKEKEKEKEKEKE!!!!!

  12. #15 – Thanks for your posting. There is definately a deep rooted problem in any Country when you can have criminals celebrating the misunderstanding in the PACT. It just shows how unsettled they are about the Pact and let me give a correction that the Pact is not just SATA or HH, but what we the people were telling them from 2006 until it came to be. There is a saying that it’s not that you fall but that you pick yourself up when you fall.

  13. Viva Pact. The Government in waiting. We have vowed not to swayed by anything in our quest to form government.

  14. #17 – Patriot – I feel for you and just like KK in 1991, you are in the same boat. Living in a Fantasy Highland and hopding you are any popular. There is a PACT FIRE sweeping over this land and no amount of water will be sufficient to quench it. It’s now a tandem of thieves against the People. I still would like to invite you to join this wind of change because whether you like it or not Change is coming next year.

  15. Good first step indeed, its good that no one is allowed to issue any press statement except the two co-spokespersons this wllbe good to aviod what happened recently.

  16. Why is the POST newspaper reporting negatively on the PACT. Do they just want to see the death of the PACT. This is the Same story in the POST but negatively slanted

  17. The people in the ruling party will be again shaken, the PACT has really unsettled them. MMD wish is to have the PACT disintergrate, they have been busy pushing to have UPND move out possibly to them so that they continue the hold on power, now desparately using the short man with long thieving arms FTJ to help campaigns. Now this wont work. MMD going, the PACT e praying for your unity. lets stick together so that we rid Zambia of MMD and for Good.

  18. it good realise the mistakes but also always make mechanism to prevent this thing in future you have a long way if to make a government you will face challenges including ministrial sharing.

  19. Pact still has alot to clear…and HH is still a losing part in the pact..mind the zambian constition has NO provision for coalition government,,,:-?

  20. number -20 Mukabe- i will never join pact and have never even thought of it coz i belong to a stable political party MMD where democracy reigns.Dont demonise Fred Mmembe now for negative reporting coz he has first hand information than you useless chaps. He knows the two presidents have conclusively diagreed with each other only ka HH trying to smear butter on your faces.Lough whilest you can as shear shock awaits you when we will be druming for victory in 2011.
    Pwaaaahahaaahahaha!!!

  21. #30 – From your postings, am not sure who is the USELESS one between other bloggers and yourself. You can not even read between the Lines than Fred is for the Pact and is highlighting the shortcomings in the pact in order that it is strengthened. If you consider MMD to be stable then am not sure what you mean by that.

  22. Number 31 Mukabe,
its YOU i meant USELESS coz you dont understand politics you act like a headless chicken.Fred Mmembe is not for the PACT anymore because of ka arogant HH and perceived non popular UPND in comparison to PF.He is for PF going it alone hence his negative coverage of HH in the post as bantustan and tribalist not mentioning regional politics, work up dude:-))?MMD is stable we dont need defectors who are replaceable discrediting us we are still going strong as we much to convention unlike you dont even know what an election means,to hell with dictatorship.Pwaaahahahahaha!

  23. Those who continue to say the pact has unsettled MMD are obviously poor students of politics. Pact is the opposition. MMD is the ruling party. Each one of them wants to out do the other for control of plot one. Pact or no pact, MMD will punch holes in the opposition – especially when you have an opposition that engages in marriages of convenience. The opposition is significant and the MMD needs to pay attention.

  24. so these guys have been working together without guidelines all this time. We are basically 12 months from the 2011 elections and they have NO GUIDELINES!! so is this a group of people you can trust to run a Government???? How will they work in a Government together when they cannot even agree on ward level candidates? this is why Post has decided to let go of the Pact because they can see the embarrassment that will soon manifest.

  25. Great stuff but what about “The PF-UPND pact has in the recent past experienced a crisis, the latest being reports that UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema and PF president Michael Sata have agreed to dissolve the pact and are seeking ways of informing their followers” that has been reported by the Zambia Daily Mail?

As for “It has also been resolved that the 9 committees of the pact immediately complete their reports and submit them to the working group within the next two weeks” why the rush?

Anywhere, I am glad that the UPND has emerged stronger than the POST and some quarters in PF.

    Have a blessed day all.
