An instance justice mob in Chawama compound yesterday killed a man in his 30’s for killing a five-year old boy.

The man who was believed to be mentally ill was murdered by an instance justice mob after he allegedly killed the boy whom he found playing around with friends.

Lusaka Police Commanding Officer, Green Nguni confirmed the development to ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today.

Mr. Nguni said the police received the report yesterday that a man believed to be mentally sick killed the boy who is between the ages of five and eight years instantly.

He said it was because of this that the mob took the law into its own hands and also killed the man.

An eye witness, Peter Banda of Chawama compound told ZANIS in Lusaka that the unidentified man found the boy playing and thrashed him on the ground and died instantly.

Mr. Banda said people who witnessed the incident pounced on the man and started beating him until he died.

“The boy was playing then suddenly this man come and got the boy and hit him hard on the ground and the child died. It was surprising because no one expected this. It was upon this that the people started beating him” Mr. Banda said.

The incident happened around 16:00 hours yesterday and the bodies of both the boy and the man are believed to be in the mortuary.

  1. And case closed. I miss the Kaunda time when assault was nothing to fear about. As long as you have muscular power, you could beat and be feared. We used to have respect of each other.

  2. I bet there will be some bloggers who will blame this on RB! Surely, the people involved in the mob murder are culpable of homicide as they should have taken the accused to the police station and not acted like the judge and the jury which is how some PF supporters wanted to behave in the Musonda case.

  3. # 2The Legacy- MMD and Ben Yoram Mwila is the MP. There you are. Why is RB not openning his venom on this council? SORRY THIS FOR NCHELENGE DISTRICT WHICH HAS FAILED TO PAY WAGES

  4. Could this guy in the story “legally” kill some boy playing with friends? What has happened to LT’s reason and common sense? It makes you appear amateurish.

  5. 4 of cos breakdown of law and social order rests on the shoulders of police who are headed by rb, why shouldnt he be blamed? 1 and 2 has a very good point. 4 u think its the opposition to blame, hey, very funny!

  6. Its interesting how people always tend to blame the government of the day, be it KK’s. Chiluba’s, Mwanawasa’s, or RB’s no matter what happens, even if it is a mentally ill person committing a crime, blame it on the government. I think people who blame the government for all their problems will never go anywhere in life, cause they keep feeling sorry for themselves and put the blame everyone else.

  7. An eye for an eye ? But come on Zedians the guy was a retard why doing that. This kind of mentality should stop ,it belongs to the stone age error.

  8. # 4.its you who has brought politics in this issue, taukwete nensoni? What has RB and PF got to do with this?

  9. #4 you are dull. chinama is no more because of poor governance, so mentally ill people are free walking on the streets. KK used to have mental blocks in all provincial head quarters where we used to take our relatives that we failed to provide a cure for mental illness. but this thieves have no such programs. all they do is fly and fly and fly with all their family members from country to country. shame on this farmers from the bush. and here is a f.o.ol #4 saying no one should blame the government. if that happened in these developed countries where we live, some one from city council or health will be held accountable but in a country where departments have no funds for such programs whom do you blame apart from Banda the rotten head?

  10. ‘Ichiloto’ Musician Dan Peddle jailed for theft

Dan Mwikisa, popular Zambian musician, has been jailed for four years for theft by servant.

Dan, popularly known as ‘Dan Peddle’ has been jailed together with former radio Phoenix marketing manager Chilombo Nakazwe. The charges were that The three whilst employed at Radio Phoenix on June 4, 2007, without lawful authority or excuse, but with intent to defraud or deceive whilst jointly acting together with other unknown persons, did make Radio Phoenix advertising contract form number 6211 in the sum of K13, 992,000.

  11. #11 Do you live in the real world? So everything that happens it has to be the fault of the govt? If your fart smells then it is RB’s fault? So what part has Sata got in that scenario seeing as though he was part of UNIP for 27 and MMD for ten years? What I was trying to bring out is the fact that a lot of you PF supporters were vying for the blood of Musonda without waiting for the case to go to court and for the witnesses to be questioned and cross examined to get to the truth. This is the kind of mob justice you were vying for. If you could not see the point I was making then I am sorry it is you who is dull. Are you saying that if Satan gets into power there will be no silus walking around? You would believe that because you believe in the 90 days economic miracle.

  12. Miss Pretty there is no break down of law and order in Zambia but there will be if Satan gets into power. This kind of incident, though unfortunate does not happen everyday so lets not exaggerate and paint Zambia negatively simply to suit your political affiliation. If anything there is less law and order in your so called headless pact than in Zambia.

  13. ba PF twapapata, how is this linked to RB?If anything the PF run Lusaka city council is to be blamed for allowing countless mental patients roaming the streets of lusaka.

  14. # 13-Too bad for ba peddle. It makes me remember my former teacher in in junior high school whom would sneak out at break time for a joint of marijuana and on coming back will start dancing while singing his favourite song “Ukulya bwino kulaletelela ye”.Indeed this has letelelad ba peddle. How sad, anyway fisanga abaume.

  15. at # 5, Malaika, don’t embarrass yourself, and me, the report says ALLEGEDLY and not ILLEGALLY, Una enda kuti ku skulu? In an attempt to appear smart you have instead appeared stupid, silly rabbit!!!

  16. # 15 Mosiaoatunya, it seem u are no different from the metally retarded guy in the story, walipena times infinity

  17. Whatever happened to mental health in Zambia.Where are the policy makers?Such mentally ill people are supposed to be inpatients in Chainama mental hospital .Forget about releasing such patients into the community before a proper risk assesment cos it puts the patient and many others at risk and there are no community mental health nurses and facilities out there for such people. My sincere and deep condolensces to both families.

  18. #20 & #21. The Eye
I see from your number that you read the article well after me. Believe me I read that paragraph a few times and the word was “illegally” and not “allegedly”. Now LT have been known, to their credit, to rewrite stuff that readers have pointed out as not making sense. I won’t call you s.i.ll.y or st.up.id because it’s possible, just possible that you did not read the original paragraph. Have a nice day.

  19. Oh and by the way I started at Bwananyina Primary School, went on to Luanshya Boys’ Secondary School, the University of Zambia and Southampton University. Happy?
