Salaries Commission constituted

Secrectary to the cabinet Jsohua Kanganja

Government has constituted a Salaries Review Commission to review salaries and wages including conditions of service for public service workers.

Secretary to the Cabinet Joshua Kanganja said the commission will help government come up with a long term pay policy and reward system that is in line with government’s objectives of improving service delivery by the public service.

He observed that the commission will also facilitate the rewarding and motivating of workers in an appropriate and satisfactory manner taking into account the critical roles that various categories of personnel in the public service play.

He has however said that the constitution of the Salaries Review Commission will not result in the suspension of the regular negotiations for improved salaries and conditions of service between government and the public service unions.

He explained that the last Salaries Review Commission known as Mumba Commission was constituted in July 1993 and made its submissions to government in 1994.

Dr. Kanganja said since then, issues related to improvement of salaries and wages including conditions of service in the public service have been addressed and implemented in an adhoc manner.

This has resulted in serious disparities and distortions in the salary structure and conditions of service for various categories of personnel in the public service.

“It is for this reason that government decided that a Salaries Commission to review that salaries/wages and conditions of service in the Public Service in a systematic and holist manner should be constituted,” Dr. Kanganja said.

He said this will enable government to come up with a long term pay policy and reward system that is in line with government objective of improving service delivery by the public service.

  1. Civil servants are the least remunerated workers in Zambia while Ministers and those chaps that just sit in the office doing nothing like ministers get more. Where do you expect to rent a house for K390,000 in Lusaka?
I hope this Commission is not only after making allowances but genuinely concerned about the workers’ welfare

  2. this is rubish if government is really concerned with the plight of public service workers need not to form a ” bootlicker” commission that will be operating on remote control by government.take your nonsense elsewhere and dont think that civil servants are stup!d,one day and only one day you will dance you thieves!

  3. Campaign tricks by MMD.Elections are near and the talk of improving salaries and conditions suddenly pop up when day in day out civil servants have been going on strike asking for better perks. How many nurses have left Zambia? How many teachers have left? Anyway if it genuine then its for the better, here in India, government jobs are the most sought after because the pay and conditions of service is good.Free housing, motor vehicle among other things!

  4. Chakuti chakuti commissions, chite and chite commissions, what nonsense.Zambians should learn to be pragmatic not just rhetoric day in and out.

  5. This is what you get from an irresponsible government. Let us be honest to each other, reflect in your inner soul and advise if a normal human being can seat and say that the minimum wage for a Zambia worker should be K260,000/- (US$50). Stop the politiking and advise if there is sanity in RB and his cronies to expect to be Leaders in this country if they can not even use the little common sense, which I can state is not common to them.

  6. Please consider the wages of ACCOUNTANTS for them to stop stealing. These guys handle alot of money but what they get come monthend is pathetic. Iam an Accountant if you won’t increase I will not stop stealing and no one will catch me not even Anna Chifungula. Apparently, Iam building a mansion in chalala.
