National Milling Corporation has said good agriculture policies by Government has helped the country to record bumper harvest this year.
National Milling Managing Director, Peter Cottan said Government has also facilitated various players in the agriculture sector to partner with small scale, peasant, and commercial famers to achieve stable agricultural policies.
Mr Cottan said good policies and the enabling environment in the nation had also enabled his company to work and partner with farmers in crop marketing.
He said his company has since put in place mechanisms aimed at providing farmers with a ready market to sell their crops.
Mr. Cottan said this when he presented a donation of 200 by 25 Kg bags of Roller meal to the Lunda Lubanza traditional ceremony of the Lunda people of Zambezi and the Maliko Malende Lwindi traditional ceremony of the Tonga people of Sinazongwe.
He said by providing markets for farmers, his company was helping farmers to stop dealing with briefcase buyers who exploited them by offering unfair prices for their produce.
He has since pledged his continued assistance to traditional ceremonies saying they were a major contributor to the national economy.
And receiving the donation, Senior Chief Ishindi of the Lunda speaking people said while the country was celebrating a bumper harvest, the people of Zambezi feared starvation as their crops were destroyed due to excessive rains.
The Senior Chief said the people may only have food to last for up to September this year.
The traditional leader also commended National Milling for extending its help to hosting of the traditional ceremony slated for next month.
And, Esau Nebwe a representative of Chief Sinazongwe also lauded the company for its continued support to national events.
Mr Nebwe said while the company was known for only sponsoring sports, National Milling had also shown serious commitment to national events like traditional ceremonies through donations towards such ends.

Cottan you are right, but some cadre bloggers will soon suggest that you have been bought by the MMD. Well tell us, can you?
Can we please leave unproductive politics out of this? Of course good policies have facilitated this and the rest is from the people’s hard work. If you want to help people put money in their pockets, this is where you start from. It has a discernible multiplier effect, crucially form the rural farmers.
So which way forward for the opposition – where’s Guy Scott? What is his take on this and what’s he going to do better? I remember watching him on TV all those years back saying maize is just a grain that’s gaya’d.
Cottan is right but the cadres who believe in 90 days economic miracle and more money into their pockets without working wont believe you. They are used to utopia. In short they cant notice the enabling environment govt is providing cos the are economically blind.Sad for them.
Good pressure from Sata/HH has led to good agriculture policies in govt. viva pact!
Can someone detail the good policies that have facilited this?
Out PACT and Viva MMD Packed with solutions
We know mmd has good policies on paper. Some are followed by hard working ministers like mutati, namugala. policies like private/govt partnership. The private org build structure and lease for ?yrs and later surrend to govt. We zambian hate corruption in ministries and the police service, lands ministry, health, roads dept etc, we hate chiluba, we hate interference with judiciary. That’s why mmd may go in 2011. If they change I will vote for them.
Which good policies are you talking about? Do you reckon there is any sense that FRA/ MMD Fake Govt doesn’t have money to purchase the maize which our farmers toiled to produce. They don’t even even money to buy empty grain bags costing K1,200/- each. What a shame?
Don’t just blog for the sake of it, the bumper harvest is a result of our realisation that MMD government will not help us in any way in reducing meal prices and so more and more Zambians are resorting to caltivate there own. What do you mean by good policies, where is the market, the roads, storage facilities?
Mukabe come 2011, you’re very dull.
Good policies from the late Presido!!!! RIP Mwanawasa!
This muzungu knows how to live in Africa! Give the right vibes and you will get away with anything! His othe muzungu friend O’Donnel was saying 100% of people outside in the Western world don know anything about Zambia! Who is forgetting how ama sene-sene came to this country, ripped us of emaralds, married and had children with our Zambian children and run away back to their first wives! Who can forget ka Mathani ulya konse kubili (eating from both sides)! Only Zambians will develop Zambia and in MMD, PF, UPND, UNIP and even ba Ngondo’ (house party) there are only Zambians!
This Cottan guy is just a cadre. Always in praise of those in Government. Its the good rains and not policies that are responsible for the bumper harvest.
Way to GO In Africa AND WHEN you are a business of foreign origin. The MMD Govt., once threatened to close his Milling Plant as it is situated along Cairo Road in the heart of the city centre (CBD), thats the time they persieved him anti-MMD. Now he is busy praising them and donating where MMD is trying to penentrate. They have let GO of HIM 100%. No one talks about him and threatens closing National Milling Plant along Cairo road. Well done Peter Cottan. This shows how foolish and vengence is used in Politics. It’s either you support them or you are there RIVAL.
not gvt policies but the God of mercy who has given his suffering children food to eat
I think we were just lucky it even rained last year. No human being can claim praise for what cut. And big up to the senior chief, you are my inspiration. One blood.
the yankee has spoken and i salute him. whatever cottan touches turns to gold. just look at world champion ester phiiri. ba kaponya mu pf learn to give credit were its due. imwe kano kufwa na no. i know you choking with envy at the credit going to MMD. come 2011 tukamikanda chine chine
Good Morning
Well, I tend to see things like #13 & 14. We all know that Africa is blessed with acres of fertile land plus a friendly natural environment so why should bumper harvests surprise anyone or need to be justified? Mr. Cottan, no need for you to go around your elbow to get to your thumb. We, the people of Zambia simply give God alone the praise for this one…
Hey people check this on wikileaks!! wikileaks.org/wiki/President_Mwanawsa_and_the_looting_of_K838_billion_from_the_Zambian_National_Oil_Company,_4_Oct_2005
So in short, PF cadres are saying FISP (Farmers Input Support Program) had nothing to do with it.
Give me a break ba PF.
I am guessing zero rating agricultural equipment and spares was also by accident right PF???
#11, be serious with your posting,how did the rains provide;
1.Peaceful environment for agricultural activities to go smoothly?
2.Fertilizer support programme to our smallscale farmers?
3.Tax exempt agricultural equipment?
4.Extension officers to provide technical know how?
5.Enabling environment for the National farmers union to work independently?
The Hour has come.
This indeed is putting money in hardworking citizen’s pockets.
Not Pipedream Satan was thinking of – printing more money and putting it in his kulima tower friend’s pockets.
How do expect Cotton to ensure Ester Phiri is near her? I wish he specified which policy he meant-he is just a political mouthpiece full of nothing but desire to still stay pa zed. We are watching you Cotton.
No reason to be laxed — lets forge ahead!! We need to be the bread basket of Afika
This white chap is benefiting from the confusion in this country. It serves him well to flatter this corrupt government, this government that favours rich rather than its own poor people.
Its why he was allowed to construct those ghastly things tanks in the middle of Cairo Road when the environmental report said it was not appropriate to have those kind of constructions in that location.
Is this guy a Zambian, even? We have too many of these malayambi chaps running our economy.
what good agro policies..my foot…nonsense..stop being a cadre iwe..the rains are from God…
With all Due Respect .!!
Regardless what anyone thinks on here we should all just thank God that Zambia is getting smarter and hope it continues to do well in the Agriculture Industry so our relatives back home are not going hungry..
This is funny. He’s talking about good policies while giving relief maize to people who are starving? Anyway he’s not a MMD cadre, he is AGIP – Any Government In Power. “Good for business”
Go to abagond.wordpress .com/ to find out what these chaps think of Zambians as they reap millions from our soil.
You are retarded if you praise somebody for doing what they ought to do.
Imwe Zambians stop mourning! Have a life! Why is it every time someone says something you go into your whinging gear. Atase some of you are just damned racist. Your poverty has nothing to with what people of other races are doing in Zambia. Where others see opportunities you see obstacles and engage in endless whinging! Get off your ugly butts you niggers!
You zambians have got a very big problem. You are very lazy, here is man who is hard working and appreciates whenever something is good. He is woking with the community and you do not like it. Some of you will die in poverty if you are not careful. You should be thankful to God and appreciate what the people in leadership are doing.
Cottan, thank you for what you are doing to the cmmunity, I wish we had many people like you. God bless you Mr. Cottan.
