Choosing a presidential candidate for the Patriotic Front-United Party for National Development (PF/UPND) pact in 2011 will spell doom for the alliance, Luapula member of Parliament Peter Machungwa has said.
Dr Machungwa, who is spokesperson for the Patriotic Front (PF) members of Parliament attending the National Constitutional Conference (NCC) said yesterday that this is because neither PF leader Michael Sata nor his UPND counterpart Hakainde Hichilema is willing to deputise the other.
He however said in an interview yesterday that it is good Mr Sata has realised that the vacuum in the pact leadership is creating problems.
Dr Machungwa said Mr Sata’s suggestion that choosing a leader at this stage will rescue the pact is not feasible.
“Even assuming that one of the two leaders agrees to deputise the other, this will only solve half the existing problems. This is because their manifestos are very different from each other and it will be difficult to harmonise them,” he said.
Dr Machungwa challenged one of the two pact leaders to come out openly and state that he is willing to deputise the other, otherwise there will be no deal.
He said most of the senior members in both PF and UPND know that the pact is only on paper, although the charade will go on for a while.
Dr Machungwa said at the end of the day, it will be “things fall apart” for the pact.
Mr Sata has said that part of the solution to ending the wrangles in the pact is to choose a presidential candidate who will lead the two parties in the 2011 general elections.
The two parties in the pact said they will soon hold a meeting at which top on the agenda will be leadership of the pact.

Everybody including Sata and HH know that but only their naive supporters dont want to face reality.
Iwe mambala Muchungwa nifinshi ulebosa? Just shut up! Wabe imfeshi ukukalabana ngenkanda yaku ma t.o.l.e! swine…atase!
Okay even choosing a PACT leader is not a good idea neither waiting for 2011 then what ? Mr MMD Peter Machungwa tell us the solution.NOW IT IS CLEAR THAT WHOEVER STAND ON THE PACT tickect will win,and I think that is why MR MC & HH cannot give each other chance ,but for Mr SATA the chance 5% of leading the PACT because it is a FACT he has no degree Ciluba knows about it which means MMD will capitalist on this. For HH he has 95% chance but as usual Luapula & Northern and parts of urban CBC will not vote for him unless he does very well in North Western then he will survive or defeat MMD.Pleas Mark my words
Peter Machungwa, it’s difficult to see sense when a FOX talks even if it makes 10% sense what he is saying. he was planted by FTJ in PF to cause confusion just like FTJ again trying to plant him in MMD to be his chief spy and insider saviour.
I think the pipo, of Luapula are tired of this Man, let them kick him out of parliament this time. For peace Maker #3, Sata has 2 degrees thats why the NCC & MMD have become quite on this one, they targeted Sata & it backfired. Sata reading for the 3rd degree now.A degree is a degree even Social Sciences (ku-chikwakwa) i.e. also degree in Language, Fine Arts, Music, cookery etc. lelo MMD. They want to capitalise on the group that wont sponsor a presidential candidate within the PACT to denounce the candidate picked.MMD jitery / losing POWER…
Why are you so concerned when actually you are not part of them? Just stay away we don’t need your views, you nincompoop. Just put your house in order.
indeed they are dead scared but its simple you pick sata then tongas lunda lubale lozi kaonde they dump pact and go to MMD. remember sata called these pipo amatako or ku 6 koloko banamazai and he once declared he would never go to northwestern province to campaign. choose HH as leader then ba kaponya in lusaka an CB will swing plus the little support he has in northern and luapula will go. its tricky and working well for MMD which ever way. it was suicidal to form pact
Is Machungwa spokesperson for PACT? or for MMD? or for Govt in general?
Why are you bothered by Pact affairs? Can those shortsighted,ant-change protagnists like SHARPSHOOTER & DIASPORRIC PRESSURE tell me why they dont know were they belong?
Can you organise your Majority for Multi-petty ant-democracy please. We are tired of conservatives, and cowards who are confortable with anything. VIVA PACT. Machungwa has no other way of rebuilding his self destroyed name but to continue with a stance he made-may be and may be MMD will reward him.
peter machungwa you are very useless, why should you bite the finger that feeds you? time will come when you have nowhere to go. you went to PF, and you were made MP, then you start insulting the party that took you where you are today! its very unfair for you doctor! if you have to leave, then just leave without opening your mouth denouncing your party, we should have dignity as people who are grown up / mature!
Dr. Machungwa shows clearly that the success of the PACT is a thorn in his arse. Why speak on behalf a party that you dont belong to? Even MMD has got problems on the mode of adopting their presidential candidate. What is saving them is that Rupia as a republican president is able to intimidate any challenger.
mmembe thinks is very powerful and he can control the thinking of all Zambians. Why write such editorials that so baised. If he thinks PF can win on its own and they are very popular why are they not in government. We all know that MMD with there rigging are very difficult to unsit unless two strong parties join hands.Afterall you can not boast about yesterday `s famous maybe things have changed
Munkombwe raps HH
SOUTHERN Province Minister Daniel Munkombwe has described United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema as an immature politician who should go through a political grinding mill before challenging Patriotic Front (PF) leader Michael Sata for the presidential candidacy of the pact.
Mr Munkombwe said even if he does not politically like Mr Sata, the PF leader is a much more mature politician than Mr Hichilema.
He alleged that the confusion that has rocked the PF-UPND pact is a result of misguided political manoeuvres on the part of Mr Hichilema.
Mr Munkombwe said he had predicted doom for the PF-UPND pact soon after its formation because he knew that Mr Hichilema would not stand the heat in the political kitchen of the alliance.
He said this when he addressed journalists.
“I had predicted the crumbling of the PF-UPND pact soon after it was formed. But I did not think it would be so early. It has crumbled much sooner than I had expected. But this is because one of the two leaders is an immature young man and he needs to go through a political grinding mill before he can challenge Mr Sata. Even if I do not like Mr Sata politically, he is a more mature politician than Mr Hichilema,” Mr Munkombwe said.
He said Mr Sata has been in politics much longer than Mr Hichilema and knows how best to deal with certain challenges.
Mr Munkombwe said by saying Mr Sata is more mature than Mr Hichilema, he was not demeaning the latter but was merely advising him to learn the political ropes before running for the country’s presidency.
“You need to train in politics. You do not just jump from your slumber and want to be a president of a country. You must start from the bottom so that people know you and your abilities in orgainising things,” Mr Munkombwe said.
Mr Munkombwe said the MMD is, however, not celebrating the confusion that has rocked the PF-UPND pact.
He said the MMD will continue with its programmes of developing the country.
Mr Munkombwe said while the other opposition political parties are obsessed with insulting leaders in Government, the MMD is focused on how best to deliver services to citizens.
Ba LT, are you an extension of the Daily Mail and Times of Zambia now? Do you really expect meaningful news from these two puppet institutions? Please find us proper news.
Of all the people to ask about issues concerning the Pact… Machingwa???? Piliiiiiiiizi, get serious.
Ba LT, give us some news about how RB is ensuring be na Mpombo and Magande do not make it ku convention yabo!!!! We want to hear that for a change. Thank you!
# 16,get a life elsewhere if you cant cope with reality on the ground.
What is wrong with this machungwa chap kanshi ? He should stop speaking on behalf of the pact.
Machungwa, you seem to be scared of what is going on in the PACT. Continue licking Kafupi’s shoes and be ready for 2011 as this time you will be badily walloped if you decide to defend yuor seat. You miscalculated your move. Hard luck for you!!!!!
Dr Machungwa, who is spokesperson for the Patriotic Front (PF) members of Parliament attending the National Constitutional Conference (NCC)
He He He
Somebody can’t say “Rebel PF MP’s”.
The TRUTH HURTS.
LT i have seen a better picture of Sata. please this guy will be your president one day and you must accord him the decency to look better. Thats why even women paint their faces to look more presentable and attractive. Maybe he does not look good naturally but ni ba kateka come 2011. You must be able to read the direction of the wind. HH taseka twalishiba but its ok.
Can someone explain why people from Northern, Luapula and CB can not vote for HH. If its because he is Tonga, why are the Bembas being spared by bloggers from being called tribalists?
Iwe ka George fimi fimo, that picture is a real image of how Sata looks, why do you want LT to doctor it? If you have problems with the way Sata looks, just how the hell do you then go ahead to believe that he is one day going to be president of this country? I mean, do you want him to go for a plastic surgery to look good or what? Sata has other endowments but good looks is not one of them and he himself knows this. Maybe you as his devout party candre should start raising money from all nyama za Nabwalya for his to go for a plastic surgery.
# 6..DIASPORIC PRESSURE…Man your mind is really an empty tin , politics of tribalism are no more,..what we need is not a man from heaven but someone to help us..look at you mom and dad kwashan’ombo how they are suffering…tontokanya.
