The council of churches in Zambia has charged that the 2010 NCC draft constitution has failed to meet the aspirations of the Zambians.
The churches said that the draft constitution has failed to meet the aspirations of the people as it has fundamentally departed from the people’s submission as contained in the Mung’omba draft constitution and report.
The churches added that the aspirations of the people are very clear on what they wanted the country’s constitution to look like.
In statement issued in Lusaka this morning signed by the CCZ members, consisting 21 churches, they said that NCC draft constitution has left out certain cardinal and fundamental rights such as right to shelter, food, water, sanitation and environment, and the right to education after basic school level which must be enjoyed by all.
They further noted that the NCC draft constitution has, instead of devolving the powers of the president, increased the powers.

The churches further noted that accessibility to the NCC draft constitution has been another constraint in the current constitution making process.
The church also said that the current constitution making process and the NCC draft constitution leaves much to be desired.
They also say that the will of the Zambian people as reflected in their submissions to the Mung’omba constitutional review commission has been disregarded with impunity by those charged with the responsibility to defend the aspirations of the citizens.
QFM
I have 3 main issues with the draft constitution.
1. no need to increase number of MPs from 150 to 360! Too expensive and unneccessary. Keep number at 150.
2. enshrine general election date in constitution, with defined transition period.
3. let mayors be elected at large, with executive functions.
The constitution is fine. Just pass it please. Church representatives were part of the NCC. There are just too many experts in Zambia. Let us move on to other important issues.
I have looking for the Draft Constitution on internet for the last forty days to no avail. How does one access it?
#3 you are a real disgrace and liability to Zambia. If you think the constitution is something you can just brush off like that because the people in power today are your uncles or grandfathers you are mistaken. Let it be debated as it is a document that determines even what other important issues to undertake now.
#3 the link to the Draft Constitution is on the home page of LT on top right.
#3 Nakulupipo, are you sure you have been looking for the last forty days and where did you go to look for it on the Internet. It is people like you from Kulima Tower or Matero University who are dragging our country down. The link has been on this site from the time it was made public. It is also on NCC web site and parliament websites. Am sure after getting the link today you are foolishly going to demand for 40 days more extension. One wonders how you even made it this far.
#6, Ba bootlicker ubupuba. Wouldnt it have sufficed to just point #3 to the link?
@ #3 Nakulupipo

MMD Chief Bootlicker #6 ,,Dont tell number 3 that is drugging your country, its you drugging the country, busy on the internet failing to work, mulibakusana iwe! go and work for the bettermente of your country…please you people you should have pit, people in zambia are suffering and busy hiping akalufumo. the problem is not who should be the president but we need someone to deliver us from bondage.
These same churches insisted when it was being debated, & just because they saw some monetory attraction they swayed their members to rally behind it-Bishop Banda & Masupa, i remember seeing them Pa ZNBC preaching about its benefits. Now, God can not be taken for a ride, after amassing taxpayers money, they have shrunk in & cannot even be spokespersons here, let alone un named people. I wonder how these churches even run away from public issues? Where ever that is written in the Bible, am yet to read it. In the bible Paul was killed like Jesus for speaking against the wrongs of the Roman empire. Today, preachers are merely talking about blessings & giving. I will not judge anyone because that does not belong to me, but i will say-we ve been let down.
These same churches were behind the NCC from inception-Bishop Banda & Masupa spearheaded it pa ZNBC. I remember listening to the two. Whether they were attracted by the fact that they would participate and be beneficaries of taxpayers money-i dont know. They have even shunned away after amassing hard earned monies by the poor zambians. albeit, there is no name as to who was denouncing the NCC, except that its 21 churches. I xpect Bishop Banda & Masupa to speak because they are the ones that swayed the pentecostal churces to rally behind this govt & its secret intentions about the amendments on the NCC? Even paul in the bible was killed like Jesus for speaking against the evils of the Roman empire. Ours are busy preaching about blessings and amassing wealth like companies. Shame on us.
Very soon as soon as tormorrow, some useless paid pastors who benefited from the NCC will issue a very annoying statement that the draft constitution will pass the test of time. Lets pass it. Zambian comedy does not stop amazing me.
Yes, the churches are right. MMD must use these documents as there tissue we cant take this crap document for a national constitution. Maybe an MMD constitution, but even then small heads like senior citizen and chiefbotilicker dont believe in their own junk writen in this document.
i usually dont read what this id iot MMD CHIEF whatever write cause he usually writes SHI T. mukule tata.
On “In statement issued in Lusaka this morning signed by the CCZ members, consisting 21 churches, they said that NCC draft constitution has left out certain cardinal and fundamental rights such as right to shelter, food, water, sanitation and environment, and the right to education after basic school level which must be enjoyed by all those churches have nicely put up this argument and all I can implore them to do now is to relax since those things that have been left out as they said will put in the Constitution at another right time.
Thus, let us now enact the NCC Draft Constitution so that another Constitution commission can add to those things that have been left out this time around.
Be blessed all.

#13, please dont use God’s name in vein. Please dont qoute scriputure if what you are saying is rubish. how can you justfy the leaving of our views in the constitution wanting another comission to de paid for the same Job? Come back to your senses.
Boot licker, i think you left your brains on one of the boots you have been licking.Go find your brains, then we can debate on education, progreesive development and so forth.Your arrogance and ignorance is surprising.you come across as those characters that grew up in the villages(as a fourteen)however just because you have been elevated by coming town (in ur case different country,u think u know it all). i have news for you,you will always be a villager, educated or not, and its your likes that keep zambia unprogessive. You sound like the uneducated nigerians, using big words with little or wrong effect.keep licking those boots villager, suits you sir
I have followed the NNC issue since its inception. I must state without fear of strong prayers against my comments that it is Bishop Banda & Masupa who swayed pentecostals into believing & rallying behind this. I watched their debates pa ZNBC.May be because of the money involved in participation or what, the fact that they are now quiet & shanned away from public debate of this important document answers my questions. They have ammassed poor people’s taxed money & r driving latest cars & building mansions. The worst kind of a person is one who lies with a religious conviction-thats what our preachers are doing. From Pr Mumba(who has left us in destitute),Pule(who is now a serial divorcee & presures metal dealer to FTJ(who we know-un impersonification of thievery). I guess we can all lay…
BA ZAMBIA@12, neither do i. I just scroll down to bloggers i know tho they are opposing, they have something i can learn about from their arguments. Just like MWATA-who, to drive a point home, takes a space equivalent to the volume of the bible. Very naive too.
you churches are funny indeed. after munching the sitting allowances now you reject your own contribution. you pharises and seduces typical of old testament jubusites, cananites and “termites” who opposed all what God ordained. what fraction are you kanshi mwebantu? surely you want the whole process to begin again. i can not take it any more coz you are the same chaps that laughed your lungs out when it was proposed that food and water shud be basic rights. now that the UN has passed a resolution on this you are changing go post shame on you. what you shud bear in mind is that you cant please everyone in constitution making process the same way are quiet on declaration of Zed as a christian nation. what about our muslim brothers who are equally zambian enough. on this score keep quiet
The draft constitution by the NCC should be rejected by all Zambians. THe Mungomba Draft is the only reflections of all Zambians. The 50+1 and the VP as a running mate are very important to be considered if it has to stand the test of time
Levy Mwanawasa will be remembered in many ways. For me I shall remember him as the President who chose the best team (Mun’gomba Contitutional Revew Commission) to work on a people’s constitution and then refused to accept its findings from the people. What a betrayal!!!!
