High school girl accidentally shot in Kafue

Share

Police in Kafue are holding a man of Mungu area after he shot dead a grade 11 female pupil of Naboye High School in the area.

Both Mungu Ward Councillor Obvious Mwaliteta and Police officers confirmed the incident to ZANIS in Kafue yesterday. The deceased has been identified as Rachel Ngandu aged 20 years whilst the man as Robert Chipeta of Kasaro farms.

Mr. Mwaliteta told ZANIS that according to the man who turned himself to police, the incident happened while he was in the farm area with an air gun. He said the man found the girl in the same area and started a conversation with her and told her that the gun was loaded and could kill.

Narrating the saga, the Councillor said while the man tried to shake the girl with his hand, he accidently pulled the trigger and shot her straight in the chest at close range. The Councillor said the girl immediately fell to the ground and died.

He said after the man realised that he had shot the girl, he decided to turn himself to the councilllor and the matter was then reported to the local police post where he has since been detained pending further action from police.

Mr. Mwaliteta described the incidence as unfortunate and called on the community to desist from handling guns recklessly. He said it was sad that this was the second death resulting from such accidents.

He disclosed that three weeks ago a 30- year- old male parent killed his own son with an axe handle as he tried to hit his wife after a family quarrel. He said such incidents could be avoided if communities desist from using violence.

Mr. Mwaliteta has also commended the local police post officers for their hard work in combating crime in Mungu area despite facing hardships. He has appealed to Zambia Police Inspector General Francis Kabonde to consider providing transport for them.

He said whilst the community had made efforts in providing structures such as offices, there was need for the police service to consider providing motor bikes and vehicles in such areas.

  1. Sounds Dodgy to me. An Air Gun will not kill you instantly! I have owned and used Airguns for 15years and something does not add up. At close range, the airgun pellet(Bullet) cannot penetrate the chest!!!
    :-?

  2. Something fishy here.Am sure the kasukulu said “iyayi naimwe”leaving the guy with no option but to pull the trigger.Let the law visit this man.Too bad.

  3. how can you make hand shake at the middle of the conversation?was there any witnesses?this report is incomplete.but since killing has taken place.thats manslaughter.get the guy behind bars.how about Dr.Musonda didn’t he also commit a similar offense?any arrests or infor?

  4. ” Narrating the saga, the Councillor said while the man tried to shake the girl with his hand, he accidently pulled the trigger and shot her straight in the chest at close range. The Councillor said the girl immediately fell to the ground and died.”

This statement makes the story very interesting to read, if you can analyse it feather, the man acted with an intent.

  5. The story is too good to be believed. The guy seems to be telling lies. He might have had other dubious intentions. Investigate him thoroughly. He is another Dr Musonda.

  6. Too many question marks in this sad case. I tend to agree with #2 – an air gun uses tiny pellets which are definately lethal to birds and other smaller creatures but not a fully grown human. Whatever the facts, the moral is that a firearm is not something to toy around with… it could be an air gun or an elephant gun.

  7. And how did the two find themselves in there? what was the girl doing? what was the man doing with the gun too? Maybe this man raped the girl and shot her? can someone help out on this story which is not carry so much weight?

  8. this doesn’t just add up……why shake hands, did they know each other before? shaking hands while pointing the gun at the girls chest? and indeed the issue of air-gun, i have used them and i dont think it can kill a full grown human. where were they? in the bush? if not, then what was he doing with gun at that time? am somehow inclined to think that this man just killed the girl!!!! the police should do more investigation!!!

    CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILY!!!!

  9. Clearly if he had run for help, the young lady would still be with us. She probably died from the wounds not being treated or from losing blood if punctured. Moral of the story, no guns for airheads and short tempered folk. The man turned himself in unlike a certain doctor we know. Nine Chale how are you? When did LT become so political?

  10. Iwe THE DOCTOR (No. 2) it’s your air gun which id dodgy not the one that killed the girl! I have never owned a gun and I will never own a gun (although I have been trained at National Service) to kill with a gun! I urge to re-think about your dodgy gun. When the time comes no gun will protect you!

  11. MB no# 16 you are very correct only Jesus is Wise powerful enough to do all things. So let’s invest in programs like national service again for those that deserve to serve and for moral allignment. What Africans have forgotten is that the community based families we have, extended and all without the silly cultural rituals but the wise aspects of it can develop our nations; therefore eventually the continent. God should be first always in our plans but do carry them out.

  12. As Usual LT pddling ZANIS stories. Why Not investigate further. Something happened here, the guy was talking to the guy about what? then whilst trying to shake her hand, the gun goes off. I think the man was dating kasukulu or he was trying to propose or do something nasty like sleep with her. Sad ending to a grade 12 girl. The law should visit this killer.

  13. Feleunfwika nokunfwika ati fya bufiiiiiiiii. You can’t shoot someone at a close range like that. This is a true lie.The girl was intetionary gunned ! This man must be jailed.

  14. Bane this is absurd, how could someone point a gun at somebody when they are shaking hands. When shakin hands I presume the hand holding the gun will not have enough strength to hold the gun pointing at someone. Secondly how could he pull the trigger aaccidently, when you are holding the gun with one hand. This is pure murder, because the explaination is not adding up to the truth please investigate and get to the bottom of the story

  15. :-? He knew it was loaded and warned her,why didn’t he put the air gun down and then
talk to her, stupid *****ic man does he really think people are that shallow in thinking.
He deserves to be in the chuks whether he reported himself or not. He was up to no good
am sure he wanted to do amu to her and she refused.its sad for the family.

  16. ” He said the man found the girl in the same area and started a conversation with her and told her that the gun was loaded and could kill.”

The f.u.c.ker was obviously trying his gun on her……….

  17. Liar! What is the correct way of carrying a gun? Is it in a horizontal way pointing at people- no! nYou nomally point the gun up or down so that in the unlikely event of accidental firing (which didn’t happen anyway), it would have gone up. The man is implying that he was approaching the girl as a combatant! Liar. 2ndly even a baby would find it difficult to belive that we would start shaking hands long after the conversation. why. He was right when he said the gun was loaded & would kill (it was a pursuasive way of telling her not to shout or run. He is guilty till proved very guilty (we are at manslaughter before we prove murder). He knew the implications of rape, killed the girl & all of sudden the big world collapsed to a small one with no exit. It happens, ask Katele & late Sadam

  18. this doesnt take a genius to figure out.
    1. this man shot with his right or left hand? a gun is handled with right hand unless you are left handed. Hand shaking almost exclusively involves the right hand. Was he shaking her hand at her chest level, I don’t knw if there is a tribe in zed which does this kind of handshake traditionally but. Here’s what happened he was either dating or raped this school girl who thretened to report to his wife and police and he shot her. since he is probably one of few pipo owning an airgun he realized could easily be traced back to him and so decided to turn himself in hoping it would make him look innocent.

  19. KAFUE, KAFUE, AGAIN. THIS A SECOND INCIDENT IN KAFUE WHERE GUNS HAVE KILLED YOUNG PEOPLE WITH SAME AGE RANGE IN THE SAME UNEXPLAINED WAY.SOMEBODY MUST BE SHOOTING FROM A DISTANT. FIRST INCIDENT THE ACCUSED HAD A DIFFERENT AMMUNITION FROM THE ONE THAT KILLED THE BOY ON A BIRD HUNT. PLEASE POLICE GET A GOOD JOB HERE.

  20. guys this is all “according to the man” i.e. the accused, so it is probably nonsense. who knows. sad

  21. The barrel of an airgun is too long to be in a chest-aimed position between two people shaking hands, especially if one is holding it in such a way that his finger is on the trigger. The improbablity suggests that this is not what went down, therefore suggesting a lie on the part of the narrator/shooter, which in turn suggests foul play… Assuming it was indeed an accident, which I doubt, guns have safety-catches which prevent accidental pulling of the trigger, hence carelessness on the part of the bearer, somewhat but nit exactly similar to causing death by dangerous driving…

  22. Why do Zambians walk around with guns. you see a policeman, a soldier, Zawa officials, security guards. Taking guns to their home. What for. Those things should be secured. look at other countries. You don’t see someone just walking with an AK or G3 in the streets unless there is an operation or something
