PATRIOTIC Front (PF) Roan Member of Parliament Chishimba Kambwili has demanded for the resignation of United Party for National Development (UPND) national youth chairperson Joe Kalusa for what he termed as issuing derogatory remarks against the pact leadership.
Mr Kambwili said he will not rest but would ensure Mr Kalusa was disciplined by his party, the UPND as his move to hold a Press briefing and attack the pact leadership was tantamount to indiscipline of the highest order.
PF leader Michael Sata said he would not waste time to react to Mr Kalusa whom he described as just a ‘national youth chairperson’.
But Mr Kalusa said the national youth leadership of the UPND was a well recognised and respected wing in his party’s constitution and that Mr Kambwili and Mr Sata’s reactions over his Press briefing where the UPND youths merely demanded an explanation of the national programme, guidelines and regulations of the pact, clearly showed that the PF lacked respect for its youth wing.
He said their reactions showed that they just wanted to reserve the youths and use them as tools for violence during next year’s tripartite elections.
UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma, however, said his party appreciated the concerns raised by the party’s youth wing.
Mr Kalusa held a Press briefing where he also challenged Mr Sata to explain to the pact partner, UPND and the Zambians in general on how the PF leader would be able to put more money in people’s pockets.
Mr Kambwili described the briefing as indiscipline and demanded that Mr Kalusa and his copperbelt Provincial youth chairperson Kelly Jibinga should resign and join the ruling MMD which he alleged was sponsoring the UPND youths to discredit the pact.
“It is indiscipline of the highest order for the UPND national youth chairman to issue derogatory remarks against another leader of the pact. UPND should discipline Mr Kalusa and Mr Jibinga. We will ensure the leadership of the UPND disciplines these two youth leaders.
“It is sad that Mr Kalusa always wants to be a populist even on issues he never understands and I am urging him to tone down because he will leave politics with nothing if he is not careful. We know Kalusa is being sponsored to destabilise the pact and we will not allow him to succeed,” Mr Kambwili said.
But Mr Kalusa said it was worrying to note that Mr Kambwili and Mr Sata never saw the importance of youth wings in the political parties. He said Mr Kambwili was not the right person to call for his resignation because he was not a member of the UPND.
He said he was willing to appear before any disciplinary committee, especially that of the pact provided that PF vice president Guy Scott, his secretary general Wynter Kabimba and Nkana MP Mwenya Musenge were also summoned to appear for having discredited the UPND.
When contacted, PF spokesperson Given Lubinda and Mr Kabimba both refused to comment on the matter.
But Mr Kakoma said his party appreciated the concerns raised by the UPND youths. He said the issues raised by Mr Kalusa were complex and needed to be handled carefully.
“We know the youths want things to be done fast and we appreciate their concerns but these are the issues we are trying to harmonise in the pact. These are not issues that can be done within a day,” he said.
Mr Kakoma said the working committees were given two weeks in which to complete the harmonisation of the guidelines and manifestoes for the two political parties which would soon be handed over to the leadership in the pact.
And former PF secretary General Edward Mumbi said Zambians were now able to see which politician was telling the truth when it came to issues of national importance.
Mr Mumbi said it was pleasing to note that the UPND had realised that Mr Sata just wanted to use them to popularise himself.
“At least I am on record stating that this pact is a non starter. It was just formed because Mr Sata just wanted to use the UPND to popularise himself and now that he has failed to use it in the way he wanted to, he is ashamed.
“I am also urging Mr Hakainde Hichilema to be careful with Mr Sata who has now started to disrespect the UPND youths failure to which he will suffer serious consequences in his political career,” Mr Mumbi said.

Guy Scott, Winter Kambimba, Conelius and Kakoma and now kambwili…the truth of the matter is both UPND and PF want their Presidents to lead the PACT and the earlier they do this the better. If they chose Mr SATA then the whole UPND will tell HH to also stand the same way if the say Mr HH takes over. So why continue in something that is dying.

In Politics, the worst thing is to trap members for long in a valley of uncertainty on the fundamental issue of “leadership and political power framework” in view of the challenges a political marriages of convenience create. Voters align with leadership that is clear, historically risk-adjusted, measured across a broad spectrum of criteria and with a record of holding best practices and building upon them. When these norms are missing in party politics, members become disillusioned and susceptible in the political arena.
Its time competitive politics put the act together for the people because acrimonious politics are disconnecting followers. Unless our competitive politics changes the act, voters see no alternative leadership on public issues.

What was the main objective of forming the pact?what is it’s mission statement?what do they want to achieve and what has the pact achieved?Where does the pact want to take the country twenty years from now? The problem in the pact has been luck of a proper vision.They formed the pact without anchoring it on firm ground. I was with Joe Kalusa at CBU. All he knew was bringing confusion in the student Union (COBUSU) where he was Secretary General. Rumours had it that before CBU, he was either a Cop or a Soldier but was discharged because of indiscipline. This indiscipline even had him expelled from Campus. So am not surprised that he is behaving this way. He is a frustrated Guy. Pliz Pray for him.

Kalusa should know that bringing division in the Pact is diging his own grave. If the pact fail, UPND will be far from winning elections and were will he go? he will be a finished youth leader. If I were him I would work to make sure the pact suceed because youths like him are the future leaders of the pact. Sata is old and may not be there longer even if he becomes president.

Why spend more time attacking the Messenger and not the message?
The pact is full of imbushi from PF, Kambwili, Kapata, Mumbi, Mwila, Musenge to name but just a few. The pact has no plan for this country other than to remove MMD from government. This ‘Zitoon’ in the name of Kalusa is making a good point which dunderheads like Kambwili can not see. It will take a lot of convincing for most reasonable Zambians to cast a vote in favour of the Pact in next year’s general elections. I mean those who are not members of the so called Pact.

If the PACT fails MMD will go through next year. In this case MMD will be WAMUYAYA no change. We need to have a revolution like the one we had in 1991 which kicked out UNIP all we need is to be united without unity we are not going anywhere. The only mechanisim which will bring about change is the PACT.

HH please learn from Sakwiba’s experience of pf and MMD how they threw him after using him for campigns. HH and Milupi we depend on you guys do not allow yourselves to be used by pf and MMD, get together and sell yourselves as a team to the electorate and I will be there to help you. If you get together your chances of winning are so high considering that you will command the mighty Southern, Western, North-western and central single handedly, and just to share Lusaka, Copperbelt with other parties. Pf and MMD will share in Luapula, Northern and Eastern hence their chances of winning will be slim. Move guys we need you.

Sata’s the right Pact candidate—Scott
PATRIOTIC Front vice- president Guy Scott has said PF president Michael Sata is the most suitable and widely accepted leader to assume the Republican presidential candidature for the PF-UPND pact.
Dr Scott said the results of the recent opinion poll were consistent with the 2008 presidential election results in which Mr Sata got twice higher votes than his partner Hakainde Hichilema who trailed in a distant third.
Mr Hichilema has viciously condemned the research results and accused CPD of receiving funding from the MMD to discredit the pact formed last year with the main objective of fielding one candidate in the 2011 presidential elections.
The opinion poll, conducted in Lusaka, Southern, Copperbelt, Luapula and Northern provinces—PF/UPND pact strongholds—found that Mr Sata was the most preferred candidate compared with Mr Hichilema and that the alliance was not sustainable because of the politics of ethnicity.
Dr Scott said it would not make sense to disregard the research findings having observed the previous election results where the PF leader had always garnered the highest number of votes than Mr Hichilema.
“The research shows that nothing much has changed in terms of the popularity of the two candidates,” Dr Scott said in an interview.
The PF vice-president said the technical committee in the pact would not select the candidate on the basis of the CPD research findings but form the basis of factors to be considered in its search for a candidate.
“That cannot come as a surprise to anyone because Mr Sata got twice as much as Mr Hichilema in the 2008 presidential elections. But we cannot make a decision on the basis of the research we will continue talking,” Dr Scott said.
During the 2008 presidential by-election held after the death of president Levy Mwanawasa, Mr Sata got 38.13 per cent (683,150) while Mr Hichilema received 19.70 per cent (353,018).
The election was scooped by President Banda who got 40 per cent of the total votes cast representing 718,359 votes.

The Pact will not work for the following reasons:
1. UPND is not as popular as PF but has MPs of a much calibre.
2. These educated or respectable UPND MPs are Tongas and the tribalistic mentality in Zambia makes it hard for us (from CB, Luapula and Northern provinces) to accept to be led by them, even when they can be the best that we need as a nation.
3. There is no constitutional provision for a Pact, Alliance or Coalition government in our constitution. This means that Sata (as republican president) could refuse to appoint or fire his vice (HH) a few minutes after being sworn in. RB will not allow this situation to be changed by introducing constitutional amendments.
4. The Post has been very biased.
5. UPND can easily play kingmaker for the MMD. They have that option open to them

Pipo of Zed fail to understand one principal of leadership. Kaunda was the master minder of tribalism in Zed. He was hiding behind One Zambia One Nation, when the truth on the ground was the oposite. For many years Kaunda has been pretending the Bembas and Tongas a good friends but this was false.Poor Tongas were tricked. Look at history of leadership for UNIP. Joe needs to learn to be abit Patient. Not sure but looks as though he was hoping to be appointed in the government and quit his Job at Kafubu Water (Ndola). Why punish kalusa alone when alot of PFs thugs have used very baad language agaist HH.Anyway if the pact collapses and they decide to go it alone and they both lost the election.HH has still more years to stand and the COBRA will be above 80yrs and very tired by the time the next election will be held .
