Rupiah heads for Rwanda today

Share

President Rupiah Banda will today leave for Rwanda to attend a one-day Heads of State and Government summit, which will discuss progress on the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

President Banda would join other African leaders on Sunday at a meeting in Kigali organised by Rwandan President, Paul Kagame, to review progress made by African countries in implementing MDGs.

The leaders would share their country experiences ahead of the 65th session of the United Nations General Assembly to be held this month in New York whose theme will be on MDGs.

After the summit, President Banda will join other African Heads of State and Government on Monday at an inauguration ceremony of President Kagame, who was recently reelected as President of the Republic of Rwanda.

President Banda has been invited to attend the inauguration in his capacity as Zambian President as well as Chairman of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region.

Since Zambia became a signatory to the Millennium Declaration, the country has put in place a number of development frameworks to support the realization of MDGs.

These include the Poverty Reduction and Strategy Paper, the Transitional National Development Plan, the Vision 2030 and the Fifth National Development Plan, which are aimed at accelerating the attainment of MDG targets by 2015.

  1. I am getting more and more worried by the day and apparently, there seem to be no appropriate solution to solving serious problems that affect our country. I wish to concur the urge from some quarters that PF and UPND should merge and this I think should be taken seriously by the two PACT leaders. It is not too late now anyway and I feel as a country/ nation, we still possess enough ammunition to create a condusive environment for our people. I still argue that Zambia is a poor country but that this country has been made poorer because of poor governance. Look at the Mines, especially KCM Plc. All the monies which are being generated go to India and the Zambian work force within KCM Plc earn nothing but peanuts and no monitoring of any kind is being done by the government.

  2. more perdiem for the entourage…. thats cool. hope to see a new president in 2011 coz all the taxpayers money will be used to pay for his trips shud this man win the elections.

  3. Could someone start advising these MMD thugs to take a keen interest in monitoring what is going on in the country and the sufferings people are passing through. What purpose is there in having a government whose main duty is just to traumatise everyone who is opposed to their direction of thinking ? Sometimes I do wonder whether we are in a democratic or autocratic type of government going by the way the MMD government is mismanaging things in this country. If the situation is like this this time, what shall it be like as we near the elections time in 2011 ?

  4. For all his claims that he is putting Zambia on the world map, noone seems to know anything about us. I was at an international conference in Tanzania and most people were ignorant on zambia’s whereabouts. Everyone kept confusing it with Zim.

And which country has developed because of the numerous trips its president embarked on? RB claims he is an economist, so he should tell us which development model he is using

  5. CONGESTION at Lusaka’s University Teaching Hospital (UTH) has continued to be a problem, with patients in some wards sleeping on the floor.President Banda should stop touring the world and take time to tour UTH and see what kind of development he is bringing to the country.
He should come and see the investment at UTH. This place is smelly and our people, the taxpayers are sleeping on the floor. This is not acceptable. The UTH is dead and the patients are treated like rotten chickens. It’s like the abnormal has become normal. Why should Zambia accept this?”

  6. These trips may appear to be necessary but the bottomline is that there are more issues locally which need presidential attention than being air borne all the time or watching the Zambia National Team in training! Maybe it is high time we realised that everything in Zambia has become mobile…mobile hospitals, mobile phones, mobile politicians and mobile GRZ!

  7. # 11, you are spot on. I got my moblie presidentship from Turkey. Thus, I will never stop touring the world. We are currently busy trying to install internet facilities in my jet so we can start functioning as mobile GRZ.

  10. There’s precedent,mr moi had frequent travels,mr mobutu had frequent travels, mugabe has frequent travels.Add banda then take all their initials and it almost spells MMD.Wellcome to the frequent Movement for Multipresidential Disasters as none of these has put their countries above waters. It is time Rwanda starts renting its president to others.

  11. the state hosuse is too big for this man so he likes being confined in a small plane drinking beer while watching clouds

  12. If this man can just go and never come back It can be good news for us, we want a president who will only be moving when neccessary. This disgraced president doesnt have any plans for the country and if Zambians are cheating themselves that this man will develop the country, they will be very shocked…..

  13. When will his plane CRASH??? That might happen soon and his fat a$$ will rest in shock not in peace. Or some soldiers open fire on him in Rwanda. F this mofo.

  14. President Band defended his frequent trips arguing that they brought investment in the country.

“The situation at UTH is beyond control,” . “President Banda should stop touring the world and take time to tour UTH and see what kind of development he is bringing to the country.

He should come and see the investment at UTH. This place is smelly and our people, the taxpayers are sleeping on the floor. This is not acceptable. The UTH is dead and the patients are treated like rotten chickens. It’s like the abnormal has become normal. Why should Zambia accept this?”

The situation at UTH was evidence that corruption existed.
I call on Zambians not to allow politicians to seek medical treatment outside the country for them to experience UTH first hand.

  15. I have never a President who travels like this, he claims he is putting Zambia on the World map, during the world cup how many tourists came to Zambia. I went to see my doctor last week, she told me she had visited the victoria falls, I asked which country she said Zimbabwe, and yet this package was London/S. Africa to Livingstone and no mention of the country Zambia.I had to convince her that she had visited my country.

  16. Repeat of of 24
