Kasama Central MP Geoffrey Mwamba has with immediate effect relinquished his parliamentary position.
Mr Mwamba said he has resigned to concentrate on his business.He claims that his business has been affected due to his involvement in politics.
Mr Mwamba however regretted quitting without consulting the people in his constituency. He said he will soon travel to Kasama to explain to the people the circumstances regarding his resignation.
Mr Mwamba thanked the people of Kasama for electing him as MP. This is contained in a resignation letter addressed to Patriotic Front-PF President Michael Sata.
He thanked Mr Sata for according him chance to serve in the PF as Chairperson for Elections and member of the central committee.
Earlier, Patriotic Front President Michael Sata temporarily relieved Mr Mwamba of his position as Party Chairperson for the Elections portofolio.
This followed the assault and wife battering charges levelled against him. PF Secretary General Winter Kabimba confirmed the development.
Mr Mwamba popularly known as GBM is accused of having battered his wife Chama, on Sunday following a marital dispute.
Police yesterday recorded a warn a warn and caution statement from Mr Mwamba
There has been widespread condemnation of Mr Mwamba from a cross-section of society following the incident which left his wife with a cut on her forehead.
The Human Rights Commission who has called on the Zambia Police and the Inspector General in particular,to show that the behavior exhibited by the Kasama central Member of Parliament is not to be condoned and that penal consequences follow.
And the Law Association of Zambia has described the conduct of Kasama central Member of Parliament Geoffrey Mwamba who on Sunday battered his wife as unacceptable.
LAZ, Convener of the women’s rights, Kondwa Chibiya says violence against women cannot and should not be condoned.
Mrs Chibiya said that LAZ is saddened by the report of such an act as it touches on the very core of the fight to end violence against women in Zambia.
Mrs. Chibiya said as Zambia is considering the creation of the gender based violence legislation, such reports were very disturbing.
She added that it is the hope of LAZ that the relevant law enforcement agency will take this matter seriously and ensure that the law takes its course.

When Banda is dragging his feet on Changwe, dr Musonda, Chalwe, Katele Kalumba, FTJ, Zambian Embassy in Washington DC, theft by spouse or legally put, theft by public servant (Ghost Worker – Thandiwe), Sata spends few minutes to stop the nonsense in his leaders. Violence against women is an institutionalized thing in PF.The whole insanity of wife battering is a PF cancer. Are we missing the point? GBM offered his wife’s premises on Luanshya Road free of Charge to PF. These premises belonged to the Mwenso empire… popularly known as John wine. GBM used them as security for a Bank overdraft. The Bank has recalled its OD. PF has no cash to assist GBM. The wife a Mwenso senior is not amused by the unfolding events of losing the family property. She complains to Sata. Sata calls GBM to make peace with his family while he finds cash to assist him. The wife’s relatives threaten to go public. GBM batters his wife for not sympathising with his problems. He says the Mwensos are broke. And so forth and so on. Finally GBM resigns. He is also uncontrollable and probably he felt demeamed by Sata suspending him, hence the resignation. And I don’t think Sata moved on his own to suspend GBM, there might have been serious pressure. For example, judge Ngoma his bodyguard, he abducted a person and beat him up and he was prosecuted and convicted, last week he was granted bail and immediately was on duty with Sata in Kitwe. Sata has not suspended him, why?

I made a point yesterday that GBM’s NET worth, i.e. after all loans/liabilities was not really that much for him to be going around telling people how rich he is. Financially he is in a very precarious position (High Financial Risk) and is only surviving due to turning over the loans.
Sata made a good call by relieving him of his frontline positions in his party, however, for the strategic good of the party he should have convinced him to stay in the backgrounds as MP ( the last thing PF need is to lose a parliamentary seat), at least until the case is concluded.

Kasama must be the luckiest town in Zambia. Two bye elections within a year, both caused by egoistic bottlers and the town will benefit from campaign money poured in to win the poor souls. I hope this money is invested in long term infrastructure development and not cosmetic projects designed to win elections. From a moral point of view it is better for PF not to participate in the forth coming bye elections. This will be a good opportunity for them to demonstrate that they do no want to divide Zambia into tribal ‘bantustans’ by allowing UPND to contest the seat under the pact umbrella. i have never voted for sata and i think i will never but one thing is that he did the right thing democratically or other wise. you should know that perceptions in politics are cardinal and the perception that sata does not want to co-mingle with wife batterers is good for his image building rather than pipo who are well known who co-mingle with thieves.

Sata should have suspended this scumbag as PF Chairperson for Elections and member of the central committee the moment he said Kasama belongs to Bembas only. He is acting now because he does not want to loose the support of the women lobby groups .

Thus, I suggest that HH settles for nothing less thatn presidential cand.
