We didn’t withdraw players from national team — Simataa

FLASHBACK: Some players from the Zambia National soccer team in training

FOOTBALL administrator, Simataa Simataa has said Premier Division clubs that boycotted the KCM-FAZ Premier League did not at any time discuss withdrawing players from national team duty in their quest to press for the FAZ emergency council meeting (ECM) as alleged by some quarters.

Meanwhile, the planned international friendly match between Zambia and Sudan billed for Khartoum tomorrow has been put off because of that country’s other pressing commitments.

Speaking in the wake of Zambia’s pulling out of the international friendly match in Sudan, Simataa said there had never been a call for the withdrawal of players for national duty among the clubs as being alleged by some clubs.

He said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that the call for the ECM was meant for the dissolution of the FAZ executive and election of a new team.

The Amakumbi Stars proprietor said even when Premier League teams came on board, they only decided to boycott the remaining league games to pressurise FAZ to hold an ECM.

Simataa said there was no agreement concerning withholding of players for national duty saying, it was not part of the agenda.

“There has never been a call for withdrawal of players from national duty. From the onset, the call for the ECM was for the dissolution of the FAZ executive and the Premier Division teams came on board by boycotting league games,” the former FAZ president said.

He said there was no discussion of boycotting national team assignments even at the last meeting called by the Zambia Premier League (ZPL) which he attended in Kabwe.

Simataa blamed the FAZ secretariat staff, saying it was because of their incompetence that the friendly match was cancelled and accused some secretariat staff of taking sides in the current FAZ impasse to an extent of forgetting their roles.
“The FAZ secretariat should not blame other people for their incompetence,” he said.

And Zesco United said they released their players who coach Dario Bonetti had called for national duty.

Club secretary, Justin Mumba said Zesco allowed goalkeeper Jacob Banda with defenders Nyambe Mulenga and Billy Mwanza to attend camp for the national assignment against Sudan.

Mumba said Zesco could not stop their players from featuring for Zambia on a FIFA sanctioned day.

FAZ communications manager Erick Mwanza said in Lusaka yesterday that the Sudanese federation has advised against the friendly match and FAZ has since communicated to all foreign-based players not to travel.

“The Sudanese federation has just written to us that because of circumstances during this period they are in, it will be difficult for them to play a competitive game, so we can safely say it is official the national team will not be travelling to Sudan. With this postponement, the national soccer team’s engagements for this year have been wrapped up until next year,” he said.

And Mwanza has said that the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) developmental squad will regroup this Saturday to start preparations for the next week’s Tanzania senior challenge where Zambia plays the hosts in their opening match.

Mwanza said the CECAFA side will not play any international friendly matches ahead of the Tanzania competition because it is a developmental gathering for all national teams where future players are identified.

Zambia is among the 12 countries invited for the tournament and have confirmed their availability to the Serengeti Breweries-sponsored competition that will draw participation from Ivory Coast, Malawi and Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Somalia, Zanzibar, Ethiopia and Sudan.

And the two under-20 national soccer teams today at the FAZ technical centre resumed training for the Botswana 3-11 December COSAFA championships and the Swaziland Southern African Development Community games that runs from13-19 December.

  1. Sudan is going through political upheavals at present due to the North/South divide.
The Sudanese officials should have intimated to FAZ before hand that this was a non starter.
Hope you get your refund boys as most economy tickets are not refundable.
As for Simataa2,keep up the pressure though do not do it from a political perspective.
Kalu and his executive should disclose the details of the contract with Supersport as they may be reprieved through transparency.Or is there something to hide?

  2. Dear All,

Please, those agreeing and supporting Simaata Simaata and Kephas Katongo are headed for are doom and are heavily blinded folded.Ladies and gentlemen whatever the problems, the game ought to continue, its foolish to boycot games in the name of ECM,Zambians whwn are we going to change attitudes of hetrade, they are destroying our development.the camp against the current Faz and the guys that resigned have personal grudge against Kalusha Bwalya. Please there are alot of progress and change the Kalu team has brought to soccer.lets learn to appreciate.Forget about the calls by an illigal 26 november ECM,its only the foolish to attend such a meeting

  3. What kind of hatred is this Simaata? We all know FIFAs position on the current executive .CAN’T U GET IT?!!! The ECM does not provide for what u want u fool.Pse spare us our lovely game by dealing with the Mbola issue,Supersport deal, etc because that is what is going to give u ammo for the march AGM. Any other way will attract FIFAs Wrath u fool.CAN’T U GET IT?!!!

  4. Only fools will follow Simataa, the guy lost his job with Finance Bank and has nothing to do, simataa you lost at last AGM for the position of Vice President despite bathing in rituals, now he wants an office at FAZ thru back door typical of PHD’s, what a coincidence Gift Chaipa dropped as Under 17 team manager he too thought it was a permanent job, Katongo is the Lusaka Dynamos Chairman who doesn’t know the Hanif Adams / Kalu’s ego warfare, shame on you all PHD’s,

  5. Wamutu #6 tell us more! Rituals! Yaba! Anyway Kalusha is envied by a lot of people who have done nothing for Zambian football but are clinging to the lapels of his successes so they can take over what he has achieved. As soon as he leaves FAZ will go back to the govt cup in hand to beg

  6. I personally feel Kalu deserves respect. We dwell on very trivial issues rather than working towards a common goal. When I look @ reasons pipo are putting forward regarding Kalu’s maladministration, i feel pit as to how pipo like making noise. Fine Call ECM, remove Kalu, celebrate, put up yourselves but remember one thing: To every action there is equal and opposite reaction. We shall remind you Simata and your fellow cowards who are outspoken. ICT very good at archiving!!!

  7. #1,3-7; What haz Simataa got to gain from hating Kalusha? The many successez gret Kalu haz achieved(not disputable) for mother Zambia should not blind people not to see that there iz something terribly wrong with or without Simataa. Unless you insinuate that Sports Minister Chipungu, the NSCZ, FAZ life member Kazabu and a lot who have spoken, all hate Kalusha, then we live in different planets.

  8. There are no perfect people on earth. I have tried and failed but would like to hear and learn from those of you out there who have managed. My phylosophy, experience and belief tells me that I DON’T HAVE TO BE PERFECT TO BE USEFUL! In my opinion Kalus team have done a good job. I need somebody to show me what previous executives did better. Let us appreciate what these guys have done and expect those who come after them to do better. PMC

  9. The blues will find it very difficult to return the crown at the rate the are losing games.Ask us last season what happened!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Simataa is a Zombie or Imbascile, he just talks and he is very lazy, too unproductive.

All cheap talk with a hidden agenda.

He is an ***** who likes power and living in high places with no vision at all, always trying to captalize on people’s so called ‘mistakes’

  11. When was the last time our soccer had a funding apart from goverment.
Now that there is money there is a lot of fights.Money brings fights
I’m afraid that either the meeting which will held on 26Nov or 27Nov will not be recognised by FIFA

  12. #9 we are not saying Kalu is impeccable but the way Simaata and his cronies are behaving smacks of hatred.Just check how this crisis started from Mbola ,misapprpriation of funds, supersport deal etc the people dont know all the facts not even the post that dig deeper can produce the supersport deal for the people of Zambia to understand the the whole issue .Why?!!! Because they are frivolous and have no substance to warrant this mess. These cowards are feeding on unsuspecting peoples(this include most football admnistrators) imagination to fuel the crisis. We are all blank-mean while Simaata is smiling and does not care one bit about our beloved game. These fools they call an ECM and notifies an illegal FAZ -what irony!!!

  13. For someone who has been singing about constitutions Simataa shouldnt be talking about a zambian Premier league cos its doesnt exist. what is there is a super division. By the way Hanif is selling Lusaka Dynamos so if Simataa has come into an inheritance which he is spending foolishly on pertitions, let him buy the club.
next time i run into him, nizakamutila shake shake!

  14. Why do people think Kalusha is good for football , yes he was a good footballer but not someone to run football,he should just have the guts to call it a day he has done his part ….what more with him based in RSA, does fooball need such person am sure the country is not short of manpower:x

  15. N# 18 Since when did FAZ have monies and even have their matches broadcast across Africa. Everything is hightech my man, long gone will u have a scout or agent come to Zambia to look for players? We do not even have an Airline-embarassing.

Simataa is just a loud speaker, he is a blockhead, him and Hanif are just a bunch of hoodlums trying to highjack someone’s works! You can not reap where u have not planted, numbscales!

  16. I kept quite for a while so was great Kalu. I wanted to give people enough time to read between the lines and observe if really great Kalu derserve a boot. This thread is the true testimony of what I hoped for. Fans, readers and bloggers have started to see things clear, and I am humbled by the suppport that you people have started giving to kalu. Faz has built programs that have started bringing cash in its coffers. Remember, thi is the first in faz history, previously gvt was the main and offical sponsor. Thats not the case now if anything, clubs are now benefiting from the faz exetive initiatives. In any given group, theres problems, however what makes leaders standout is how they deal with those problm. Kalu didnt respond well to problems that arose but this could be a learning lesson

  17. Its clear galu’s contract is ending on 26th Nov. so let galu start preparing 4 his disastrous end of his career pa zed coz he has terribly failed as coach & now as admin.Where will he go now with such a terrible cv? sad 4 this arrogant boy he thought he cud whip all the counsellors? now they are whipping him!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. Simataa is an empty tin. Please treat him as such, but don’t take anything he says to heart. He’s a failure, forget and send him to the dust bin

  19. HEY am scared somalia is also going to play in this tournament…. hehehe al shabaab must be celebrating fo another masacre. Since when did somalia learn to play football?

  20. It is really sad that people are now not ashamed to stand up and support a wrong, the question here is not Simataa, Kalusha, Katongo or whichever petitioners, the question is are football administrators in both camps following their own constitution? Or should we trash our constitution and use FIFA’s?
Where are we going ladies and gentlemen, what Zambia are we building that we fail to acknowledge the very rules we create.
Our forefathers fought for our liberation but is this what we pay them back with, if we destroy this country shall we then 20yrs from now blame God for not being there for us or even the Devil for getting us iton trouble?

  21. Zambian football needs kalu. Chi simataa has sum personal issues with great kalu. Simataa is a failure becoz he was once faz president and resigned barely few months in de office. Let kalu finish his term of office. What wil simataa bring to Zambian football??? I kno simataa from city of lusaka & finance banks days is a jealous fellow… Zambians be careful. Zambia stands to lose out…. Abashi chi simataa & his teams… go kalu go…
