Ethiopia Stun Zambia

Share

Losing to Ethiopia 2-1 is a difficult result to swallow, Zambia assistant coach Lucky Msiska has conceded.

Ethiopia delivered the knockout blow on Zambia today in Dar-es-Salaam to eliminate Dario Bonetti’s side from this year’s Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup.

The defeat left Zambia’s 6-0 crushing of Somalia last Friday a mare distance mirage after Ethiopia’s dominating display against their opponents as frustrated Zambia was reduced to 10-men after midfielder Thomas Nyirenda was showed his second yellow card of the day.

“It is sad that we lost because we wanted to go all the way,” Msiska said from Dar-es-Salaam after the game. “We are disappointed; it is a difficult result to understand.”

Ethiopia punished Zambia with two first half goals to confine their opponent to a second successive elimination from the last eight of the Cecafa Cup after Zanzibar also did so last year.

Goals from Tesfaye Alebachew and Omodi Okwary in the 17th and 37th minutes respectively stunned Zambia whose consolation goal was scored by Felix Sunzu Junior in the 58th minute who exited the tournament on five goals.

Meanwhile, Zambia is tentatively expected back in the country on Wednesday but that is subject to seats being available on the Zambezi Airlines.

  1. Jokers at all levels in the nation from the rep president to football players. Will Zambia be saved ? Nevers Mumba we need you man.

  2. All these Coaches brought by Great GAlu will never win anything for Zambia. That P.E teacher called Renar or whatever they call him failed and now this Journey man called Bonita Milk or whatever has even failed to beat Ethiopia. Since when did Ethopia become a footballing power house to knock Zambia out.

The only true coach was Patrick “Bomber” Phiri, He went to CECEFA, He saw, He conquered , collected the Cheque, and He left them a trophy. He went o Cosafa, He saw, He conquered, He collected the trophy and the cheque. Bring back Patrick Phiri.

By the way Great Galu ‘s coaches have failed to win Zambia any silverware, not even cosafa.

AFCON second round my foot. You call that an achievement. God help us.

  3. Guys you see what i told you not to rejoice when zambia beat somalia. you were busy praising zambia. The problem that i expressed last weak surfaced today. zambia’s defence was exposed. i should confess, the midfield and the strikers are good, watch over these boys called mukuka, mudenda and the other boy i forgot his name. these boys are good. the only thing the boys lack is motivation otherwise the fronght line is really good.

  4. Right on # 4 Under Kalu, Zed is going nowhere, He brings in his friends to coach. I think it’s time he packed his bags and head down south (Kalu) Simata and team bring us silverwares.

  5. We are a bunch of jokers and very good underachievers. The problem with Zambia is that we like dwelling on the past and think that is what will win us medals. Every sport in the country has gone down to the dogs. We need someone like KK to give the right motivation. Fighting for positions that will guarantee Air tickets won’t bring medals. It is all about hard work, being focussed e.t.c.

I would rather know more about my team Arsenal than these time wasters.

  6. I said it here when people were excited when Zambia beat Somalia that wait for them to meet a real team , i have been waiting as i promised it has happened, get rid of that coach he will never take Zambia any were after this he will come back to Europe sleep the all day and lie that he is checking on Zambian professional players – what nonsence!

  7. bravo Ethiopia go on
    it is just the begning
it is time to break the silence now
we need too see Ethiopia in African Cup of Ntions next year

  8. #4. Seeing you are a soccer fan if your name is to go by, Ethiopia has won the Africa Cup of Nations before. Twice if my memory saves me right. A feat Zambia has not yet achieved.

  9. I still maintain that we shall only see the desired result under a Zambian coach. I appeal to the powers that be to give our own Zambian bred coaches a chance otherwise we shall be better off switching to isolo as #1 Mo taim suggests.
#7 Abena Nsofu, I think I might as well concentrate on my Tottenham Hotspurs, we have a big game against Twente tonight.

  10. Zambia desperately needs a good coach……but the result is massive for the Ethiopian football and i think its time for walias for more glory!

  11. truly zambian comments wonders shall never end learn to give credit were it due some of u chaps have never even touched ichimpombwe yet u can afford to comment u fools mulatasha

  12. :d

Zambia rank in the world 32 ethiopia rank 134 but ethiopia beat crap out of zambia

    Ethiopia is powerhouse in everything
Ethiopia knows the art of war..
Ethiopia is power house for soccer
    Ethiopian woman’s r # 1 in the world
Ethiopian is the capital city of africa
Ethiopia Never been colonized by white man!!!

    Peace

  13. In the first place ,Bonnet is not competent coach. He was sucked from his 3 previous jobs, i wonder what zambia saw in him. SOLUTION: Kalu, Bonnet and Msisika must go, let FIFA ban Zambia from intl engagements, that way we will save the tax payers money.

  14. Ba Zambia, Ethiopia!! – but i always say – Zambia needs to get realistic and stop thinking we are a football power house. What happened in the 80s is long gone. Bravo to Ethiopia and One love to Zambia

  15. Ethiopia deserves the credit after beating Zambia “B” team. Lets not give up on the chipolopolos yet. Perhaps a good coach is needed, locally grown for that matter. Good luck to our Ethiopian friends.

  16. Oh shit we lost to east African. But Ethipia was the has btaken the cup of nations once or twice in early post independent perio. So on paper Zambia seems the favourite but on history books ethiopia was surely the favourite.
    Go Zambia

  17. Well done Ethiopia! I always liked and admired Zambian football more than that of West African, but it’s a riddle to me why Zambia never had a big success in continental or international football. Trainers?

  18. I am an Ethiopian living in the US. I always remember Zambia for its tactician Kalusha Bwalya. We love football as most Zambians do. I think it’s good for football when the underdogs win. At the end of the day it’s all for Africa. Remember how we felt when Ghana advaced in the world cup. I hope Ethiopians will get encouragement from this and try their best to make to the African Nations cup and eventually to the world cup in Brazil. Good luck for Zambia as well.

  19. @ Ethiopia even Botswana was never colonized like Ethiopia being a protectorate of italy so was bechwanaland. Selfrule under ally-ship. Congratulations to Ethiopia are in order though, they were brave and bold.

  20. Good job Ethiopian boys! We have a long way to go to get back to our glory days. I hope we can build on what these young players showed us in this tournament. Thank you to all our Zambian brother for not being a sour losers. Ethiopians like Zambian football team because they played some how similar to the Ethiopian style. In all honesty, you guys have a better chance than us to do better in bigger continental tournaments. This is a good start for us to build for the future.

  21. Well done Zambia you have archived your purpose and that is called success..success is when you archive your goal and zambia is known in saying tho we lost we played well…chikolopelo has done it again…Quarter final is the highest Zambia can go Congrats..Boneti and Kalu / Kamanga

  22. Do you really expect to win the Afcon when the so called profesional players are playing for TP Mazembe and others are bandled in South africa.while players from other countries are playing in the english league. So ba chipolopolo forget ever winning the Afcon let alone ka cosafa oko mwale shukila after your kalu missed a penalty in a game against Angola.

  23. i am sure the *****ic guy in the nick name “ethiopia’ is not Ethiopian.

hey dude this is a Match between two brotherly African countries not a WAR take it easy dummy and stop embarrassing yourself and us Ethiopians.

  24. AAAaah Talema nabo ba Zambia. In Ethiopia there is an annual ceremony “HUNGER”. How do we lose to such teams kwena. Atase…

FIFA even if it bans Zambia I shall welcome the Move. We have been underperforming in their organised sport, Soccer.
Galu should Go as well. Now what will Bonneti say about this loss????

  25. I said we are invited to some of theze tournaments by nationz that want to enrich their CVs, that they beat the once dreaded and mighty Zambia.

  26. Can’t you see it. It is not Kalu but the lads themselves. There is serious lack of commitment on the part of players. What major effects does Kalu have on my legs if am on the pitch? Guys, don’t just complain becoz u and i know we have no material. No wonder we have no representation in England clubs. The guys are lazy and cant sucrifice no wonder we cant equalise after a goal or two down. Bring the best coach and believe me u wont have results.

  27. Well done FAZ Executive. the ne achievement should be to get FIFA to suspend the nation for 2yrs so that other sporting disciplines can be developed.

  28. Well done FAZ Executive. the next achievement should be to get FIFA to suspend the nation for 2yrs so that other sporting disciplines can be developed.

  29. i told you men.you have to respect us.we are the one who starts football in africa.viva ethiopia viva umod ukury.the have to come to the home of football.

  30. Soccer Fan No 7 Ethiopia have won the Nations Cup once. They’ve been second third and fourth so they are no push-overs. Zambia only beat Ethiopia 1-0 in 1982 at the Nations Cup finals. However, losing to them now was a dissapointment.

  31. Shut up.. Over confidence doesn’t pay, no underdogs in soccer.. praise Ethiopia for hard earned victory. Our boys have learned a lesson again.

  32. Can someone pls tell me the benefits of these good 4 nothing bazungu expatriates who are paid huge tax payerz money. Kalu has has destroyed ZED football. All these bazungu mafias he single handedly employ have never won anything. Our own Patrick Phiri won COSAFA plus CECAFA with very little pay. Kalus’s a.s.s stinks amafi zoona !!!!
