First Lady Thandiwe Banda this morning held a closed door meeting with Cardinal Medardo Mazombwe at State House.
Cardinal Mazombwe, who was accompanied by Vatican Ambassador to Zambia Nicola Girasoli held a meeting with the First Lady which lasted for about 30 minutes.
After meeting the First Lady, Cardinal Mazombwe also met President Rupiah Banda for a few minutes, shortly before leaving State House.
The former Lusaka ArchBishop was recently appointed by Cardinal by Pope Benedict the 16th, to become the first indigenous Zambian Catholic Cardinal .
And President Rupiah Banda recently praised Cardinal Mazombwe for the successfully campaigning for the cancellation of Zambia’s 6. 2 billion United States dollars foreign debt.
He said this in a speech read on his behalf by Vice President George Kunda, during the thanksgiving mass to celebrate Pope Benedict’s appointment of Cardinal MAZOMBWE over the weekend.

RB is very happy to have the tribes man cardinal in the office thinking he will have support from Catholic priests even when GVT resources are being mismanaged.Catholic priests speak independently,they don’t depend on any cardinal to tell them what they should talk about.This speak for the people.

Must be one of the usual Bemba illiterates who really believe that the old fool can deliver miracles in 90 days and who will swear blindly that Zambia is worse than Somalia or Afghanistan. Cardinal Mazombwe knows very well that the Catholic will not sit down and see this corrupt govt led by Ruphia Banda becoming multi- Billionaires in less than two years through oppression of the voiceless and the poor of the poorest. The social teachings of the church preside over any post in the church inclusive that of the Pope. Secondly what genocide has Archbishop Mpundu committed or any Bemba Catholic priest? Speaking the truth on behalf of the voiceless, oppressed and the poor does not amount to what this corrupt govt is doing to humanity. You Zambians should remember and cherish the fact that our country is the true “true united tribes of Africa”. If you are all picking up on the Bemba (and PF) then we will all kill each other and our nation is dead. We are not like Zim or Botswana where they just have 2 or clans! Our heritage is good and thats why we should keep it and enjoy it. At the end of the day, all the tribe derivatives are quick to pick up the Bemba language (and some Nyanja, though being a backward language). Let enjoy and also all learn Zambian!!
