Mansa DC orders Radio Yangeni to stop attacking Government through its news coverage

Share

Mansa District Commissioner Chibwe Nsakasha has ordered Radio Yangeni in Mansa in Luapula Province to stop attacking Government through its news coverage.

Major Nsakasha alleged that in most cases, the news that was broadcast on Radio Yangeni was bent on destroying the Government system.

He argued that Radio Yangeni’s news reports concentrated much on negatives and less on the positive side of matters involving the Government of the day.

ZANIS reports that Major Nsakasha added that the media was there to inform the people on various developmental activities that were taking place in society and not to mislead the general public.

He further advised management at Radio Yangeni to be careful on the type of news reported on.

He advised the radio’s management to be mindful of the information which the reporters gathered and how reliable their sources were to avoid trouble.

Maj. Nsakashya was reacting to a news article which the Radio station aired on 30th November 2010 alleging that toilets at the District Commissioner’s office were in a bad state and not fit for use by human beings.

The District Commissioner wondered why such allegations were broadcast without getting a comment from him.

But when contacted for comment, Radio Yangeni Programme Manager Mumbi Mumbi argued that news articles did not contain any malicious statements that would injure the reputation of the District Commissioner’s office.

Meanwhile, Major Nsakasha has appealed Government through the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services to ensure that the contents of news of each radio station, is in accordance with their licenses and regulations.

  1. Kwena this maj Nsakasha will never stop being a bully. I thought he should by now learn that he is no longer an Headmaster where he used to threaten innocent pupils, now he has to realise that he is dealing with interlectuals. What is wrong for the media in suggesting that his toliets are in bad state? I am sure he doesnt even go into those toilets himself. Bamudala mulelangishafye ubututu

  2. Iwe ka Nsakasha ka cheekala, what kind of a major are you? Where is democracy? Where is press freedom? Some of these little a$$es do not deserve such position because they completely $tupid and ignorant.

  3. Maj. its up to us to see, judge and act over what government is doing whether it be bad or good. Why dont you (maj) get offended when gvt owned medias report nice fake things about the government?

  4. ZNBC and All Govt controlled media show only the “positive” side, so it is just fair that the private Media show a negative side of the situation, which is, by way, the majority!!!

  5. When i was in zambia, every time i turned on ZNBC, there was RB, or RB’s name mentioned. In a news cast that will take 30min and everything read is about RB and MMD, i see no reason why this Radio station, acting as journalists, carry out news casts the way they like and see it. The only time i heard about Sata was when Chimba Chanda III was denouncing him on behalf of naive zambias.PEACE

  6. Yes, most GRZ toilets are really dirty. Go and check the toilets at the Department of National Registration (NRC) in Lusaka and tell me if humans should be allowed in there at all.
Just clean up the toilets Mr. DC!
