File: President Rupiah Banda with his supporters at Lusaka City Airport before departure for Eastern Province to open MMD provincial Conference

PRESIDENT Banda is today expected to travel to Luapula and Northern provinces on a two-day working visit during which he will also officially open MMD provincial conferences in Mansa and Kasama.

This is contained in a statement issued in Lusaka yesterday by special assistant to the President for press and public relations Dickson Jere.

The President will today travel to Mansa where he will officially open the MMD provincial conference tomorrow which is expected to elect a new party leadership in Luapula ahead of the national convention.

After opening the Luapula conference, President Banda and his delegation will proceed to Northern Province where he will open another conference in Kasama on January 17.

The MMD has so far successfully held five provincial conferences in Central, Copperbelt, Eastern, North-Western and Western provinces.

President Banda will be accompanied to Luapula and Northern provinces by MMD national chairman and Deputy Minister of Lands Michael Mabenga, MMD chairman for elections and Minister of Works and Supply Mike Mulongoti, Parliamentary Chief Whip Vernon Mwaanga and other senior Government officials.

The President and his delegation are expected to return to Lusaka after completing the scheduled business in the two provinces.

Meanwhile, President Banda has expressed grief at the death of the mother to senior private secretary Rapson Chilufya, Elina Fulenge, who was 79. She died on January 14 at Ibenga Hospital. President Banda implored the bereaved family not to lose hope during the time of bereavement.

This is according to a statement issued by the press and public relations unit at State House. Mrs Fulenge is survived by six children and grandchildren.

Mulepepa ba swain umweo kanani tamwa ishiba kanshi.. Tulelomba am Pastors Ba Mupepeleko uyu.

  2. The problems in western province is as a result of having thieves for politicians. Just look at the mineral royalty tax, which the MMD Government has stolen. This is suppossed to be good enough money to have been used in developing the qwestern and other provinces. In a nutshell, we currently have very mediocre leadership, THIEVES dinning with fellow thieves assuming everything is okay. I implore everyone to say enough is enough and kick these thieving monkeys out, we need proper development. I suggest my fellow brothers in western province ban MMD there, that will be finish encla.. for them.

  3. Humpty Dumpty has no clue on how to run this Country. He is a very DULL and INCOMPETENT fellow who needs to be given a red card by not only the western but all provinces in this Country. Its a shame but true a waste of out time

  4. Check this one out!!! MMD has done five provincial conferences and now Luapula and Nothern the MMD is on fast track, soon it will be MMD natioal convetion and later National elections, just watch the space.
#1 the USA issue can not be compared to the mongu one, if People choose to go infront of a bullet and they are hit I have no time to sympathise with them. life is too too short to be spent on useless things. Grow up

  5. #2 and 3 if your father is dull don t all the people are dull. Follow the issues on Barotse which are purely political. if u and your uselless father who wasted his Spe.rms to bore u, had any sense u should have been condemning the manner those who want to gain political gain out of an issue which has now resulted in deaths.
The same people u are surpoting didn t see sense in the BA but now for political expediency they have seen logic. thats crap. U are a waste

  6. mukabe come 2011,

I sympathize your hallucinating nature clouded in protruding ignorance. What has development got to do with those insurgents ukwipaya non lozi speaking Zambians in WP or burning gass stations and fellow citizens’s vehicles? Be advised that the few thugs will not deviate the victory of MMD. WP is a multi ethnic province of disinterested tribes in diversity totally indifferent to the lozi supremacist. Read Robert Litungu a nkoya historian’s article “Are Barotse supremacists’ demands people-driven?”

  7. Are Barotse supremacists’ demands people-driven? by Robert Litungu (Excerpted for you)

dialogue between the Government and the Barotse royalists is welcome. However, this should not be at the expense of other tribes in the area who, thus far, have not had their views heard. As now widely known, Government should bear in mind that the calls are coming only from a section of wider society that was given powers by the colonialists to oppress others.

The call by the Marotse aristocrats is also patronising and condescending. The agreement presupposes that the Barotse territory is a possession of the Litunga and his family, granted to them by the British, hence the British admirals uniform.

  8. Under the Barotse Royal Education (BRE) Khotla system, the chief’s family are made into district chiefs, (Post newspaper 07/01/2011) and are not tribal chiefs.

The indunas report to district chiefs. The same personnel determine matrimonial cases, the removal of villages from one induna to another and the question of how available funds are to be spent, without the least consciousness that each instance is a different function of Government.

  9. The current problems are largely attributable to successive Zambian Governments’ laid-back approach in the manner it has related to the Litunga and the BRE.

Since independence, the Government has always tried very hard to appease the BRE. For instance, Government still allows the Lozi section at Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) to operate as an arm of the Litunga and the BRE.

The signal tune and symbols all depict the Litunga. What signals does this send to the wider Zambian society? In addition, the provincial minister for Western Province has always been a Lozi tribesman and not any other tribe in the area.

  10. WAPYA MUNZI-2011
iwe chikkamba ndiwe mbuzi iyi??talk issues here,

  11. #11 John if you father didn t have one how come u are here?? A miracle John??? in line with the story here, RB has graced 5 conferences and he is heading for two more to make it 7 thus he will be remaining with 2. John ins t this progress towards the preparations for the 2011 gen. elections? Your father will continue producing Kandolo while RB Governs. take it or leave it

  12. WAPYA MUNZI-2011
your friend is talking sense you are attacking him are mad??
we need a president for the people and not this tourist called RB.

  13. WAPYA MUNZI-2011
iwe chikkamba you are still living in the darkness wake up koswe wakantu iwe, no sane person can support MMD, cant you see that they have distroyed our country??
there is a time for everything now is the time for MMD and RB to go!

  14. John Ndiwe Nyadule iwe zoona, if you out of many Zambians don t surppot MMD, don t think all of us are shallow like u. I will surppot RB and MMD because I believe in their good works. If you and your family have not planned your future don t blame others, please get a life. For and beyond its MMD. Say what you can I ve been on the ground RB its positive victory, try in 2016 when he is out. Gunkumu

  15. WAPYA MUNZI-2011 Ndiwe Nyadule iwe wavela koswe?
i am on the ground i have seen how pipo are suffering coz of the mmd and its corrupt leaders.
some Zambians out Zambia longer say that they are from Zambia coz of the uselessness going on. ain’t you ashamed koswe iwe?

  16. And y shud he waste his presious time on villagers being sacrifised 2 protest for something they dont understand.Viva RB all best in yo campaigns

  17. No doubt Rupiah is not only dull but the most incompetent president our country has had. He is like a headless chicken.

Mambala has no idea on how to generate desired results for the country. That’s why he resorts to touring the world under the fictitious guise of attracting foreign investment.

Wechipuba we, your job is in Zambia

  18. What is happening in Western Province should not have happened in an election year…I foresee a drop in fortunes for MMD.

  19. #5 – I will not talk about your father as he has no clue the Internet even exists. I will equally not talk about you because you are equally a DULL I’DIOT, but I will talk anout RB.
This kindly of mediocre leadership maybe acceptable at the farm but not from a president. The problem is Danny Kalale cooked up some figures from western province in 2008 and everyone knows that. This I’diot of a president should have been left at the farm as a peasant farmer drinking tujilijili. This is what you get when you bring in a DULL and INCOMPETENT Person to be president, a leason that even people like kalale himself should have learn’t from.

  20. #15 – please spare your ignorance. I know you’re DULL but please do not think MMD supporters are more confortable than the rest of the citizens, that’s just on paper. Ever wondered why VJ never retires, why Humpty Dumpty resolved to go to the village in Chipata and depending on his wifes K 1m/- month pay before Mwanawasa felt pity for him, look at Gray Zulu.
Rupiahs reasoning capacity is very shallow, he was voted by some simply because some people appreciated Mwanawasa’s works and his fight against corruption, but more so with assistance from ECZ. You’re cooked this year because we’ve combined the PF and UDPND votes together. Ulelwala shiki polomya wenkoko we

  21. There is an urgent problem that needs to be addresed in the western province and this joker of a president decides to go to luapula? Shouldn’t energies be concentrated in the western province to squash problems there first before more serious bloodshed is endured by the people there? I tell you we are doomed as a country if we keep voting in these greedy old men who are only intereted in being recognized as the supreme ruler of our country. Fu ck Sata as well because he is only intereted in urguments with other leaders instead of explaining to the Zambian people how he intends to develop the nation.

  22. The will of the people of Western Province will not be broken by the use of force, in Tunisia people got frustrated with their govt and corrupt/selfish leaders and no amount of force nor intimidation deterred them from achieving what is good for them. The situation in Western Province is not about hating other tribes, its not about chasing other tribal groupings and its not about cutting the province away from Zambia (a country named after the Zambezi River which was named after God = Zambi in Lunda a language in the area where the Zambezi has its source) but the problem is about poverty as a result of poor leadership in a blessed land. MMD will have it hard to get enough votes from this province come election day, Im here and people are angry about how MMD leadership is handling issues.

  23. Thank you Panji…you have seen what is yet to come. This is a warning. MMD government propanga is saying they want to break away from the rest of Zambia but the truth of the matter is people are not happy with this government. And please dont even try to rig this year. It will be like pouring Gassoline on fire to put it out. Just accept and be ready to face the real Justice on corruption cases you criminals have enjoyed. I may not support Sata to be president than HH but the man is the real BROOM we need to clean the country as he knows these criminals inside out. Of course HH will be of use in the next government and later president. Go UPND/PF pact…the people´s dream!

  24. RB behaves like a kid…he has never been serious in his life.

Zambians please let us vote out these creature called RB this year.

  25. RB is hoping to win this year’s election. But the reality on the ground is that RB will lose badly whether his supporters( like I.D.I.O.T called Senior Citizen) likes it or not. well spoken # 29

  26. Majority of LT bloggers seem to be basing their analysis on what the media feeds them which unfortunately is detached from reality.I`m not an MMD sympathiser but having recently spent significant time on the ground in Zambia.MMD will still remain in power after 2011 elections.I`ve read articles on this blog about the UPND/PF pact. The PACT only exists online and in the media. The MMD has made significant strides in PF and UPND strongholds. The development that`s taking place on the Copperbelt,Lusaka and Southern province,Livingstone in particular only works to peel off substantial votes from the opposition.

  27. Whether or not the Lozi people are to blame for the unfortunate events in WP, the fact is they require serious intervention by the president but surprisingly this is not his priority. Very sad! It is left to the trigger-happy police to slaughter as much as they please. The minister of Home affairs is quoted as saying that the adminisration is not going to talk to the people of WP who are being called all sorts of unpleasant names, What kind of leadership is this? No diplomacy, just gunning down mercilessly.
    The world is watching.

  28. #28 wapya munzi 2011 wilatinya umunobe # 26 i know you too if you are in support of this so called dull president lila chalimo pantu ni zwaa whether you like it or not. it is the pact forming govenment, this president is a heartless president alefwaikwa ukuba ku farm. the blood of my brothers who were shot yesterday in Mongu is on him

  29. George Kunda spent two days in Chingola just talking about attacking one Michael Sata while the KCM was polluting our water. On Thursday 13th January 2011 the Nkana Water and Sewrage Co. had to cut off water supply to Kitwe and Kalulushu because of heavy presence of metal water in Kafue River. This affluence is from the KCM treatment plants. Also to note is the Smelter which the Chinese have put up in Chimwemwe. This plant has put Chimwemwe under fumes 24hrs every day.
