Government had no link with Justice Mumba’s resignation – Ronnie

Government has denied any involvement in Electoral Commission of Zambia ( ECZ ) Chairperson Justice Florence Mumba’ s resignation.

Chief Government spokesperson Lieutenant General Shikapwasha said his government had no hand in Justice Mumba’s resignation saying the move was her individual decision.

The Justice resigned from her position to pave way and allow the Anti Corruption Commission ( ACC ) to carry out the investigations at the commission.

Lt Gen. Shikapwasha added that government had no hand in the K 1 billion KPGM auditing firm scam .

The audit firm was allegedly singled to undertake consultancy services on the confidential audit system review for ECZ for the year 2008 to 2009.

Lt. General Shikapwasha, who is also Information and Broadcasting minister, was speaking to Journalists in Lusaka today.

He said this in reaction to opposition leader Micheal Sata’s assertion that government sanctioned the scheme to ‘ hound out’ Justice Mumba.

However, the Chief government spokesperson said : ‘’Mr. Sata knows that government has no authority to appoint the chairperson and the director general at ECZ adding that only parliament can ratify the appointment of the chairperson for the commission.’’

  1. Mr Sikapwasha, why have you made no attempt to answer Sata’s questions (see The Post) in his letter to the president regarding the unusual steps taken by George Kunda in the ECZ issue? It’s not enough and it’s not convincing to just say ‘your government had no hand in the resignation of Justice Mumba’.

  2. The best placed person to answer that is Justice Mumba herself. There is nothing Shiks can say to satisfy anyone. What he has said is enough, people can choose to take it or leave it.Mr Sata should ask the woman of integrity.

  3. Sata knows it and simply playing politics! Those protesting ECZ workers are grown ups not to be easily influenced by the MMD! Mumba must have been a bad leader and the opposite may be true for Kalale. People you lead in an organisation dont just go strike to kick you out unless youy’re a very bad chairperson!
