Govt releases K15bn to ECZ for voter registration

Government has today released K15 billion to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) for various programmes under the continuous voter registration exercise.

The funds are additional to the K101 billion earlier released for the process between January to December, last year.

According to a Press Statement availed to ZANIS today by Ministry of Finance & National and Planning Public Relations Officer, Chileshe Kandeta, the release of K15 billion manifests Government’s commitment to the voter registration exercise in ensuring that as many Zambians as possible participate in this years tripartite.

The Commission had in the recent months requested for funds from the Government to effectively carry out its mandate ahead of this year’s tripartite polls.

“K15 billion has today been released to the ECZ for various programmes under the continuous voter registration exercise. The funds released manifests Government’s commitment to the voter registration exercise in ensuring that as many Zambians as possible participate in this years tripartite,” Mr. Kandeta said.

ECZ failed to pay the voter education facilitators who participated in the voter extension exercise that ended in November last year including the registration officers in the field in most of the districts.

  1. #1 milar bj, please. The MOBILE REGISTRATION ended but normal registration at Civic Centres in every districts has continued. It’s called CONTINUOUS VOTER REGISTRATION. It should NOT end. The only thing is registering after March 31 will NOT entitle you to vote in this 2011 election, but will allow you to vote in any other subsequent elections. So go register yourself and stop blaming GOVT for yo imaginary problems. There’s progress mwana..

  2. guys be better informed, all the registration officers and other officers have not been paid since october, even vehicles that were hired have not been paid for. this is a good move, let the chaps pay us, its long overdue

  3. # 1,

The opposition has long called for this continous voter registration and a listening people’s Government has responded by committing billions to it. Then what is this barking here for?

  4. Has anyone been appointed to look after the ECZ following the events of the past couple of weeks?

  5. What are Zambians good at kanshi? They can’t play football, can’t farm, and worse thing can’t do arithmetic.1 billion/1 million = 1 million. K15b +K101b = K116billion. If it was costing K1million per person, K116 billion will cover 116 million people. There are only maximum 2 million unregistered voters so far. Even if they count number of sex act = babies (voters), and raise petrol to K100,000 per liter that K116 billion is simply too much.

  6. Nostradamus you are a phool and are happy in the mud where your brain wallows. We Zambians can do maths, can farm (bumper harvest, hello, anybody at home?) and can play football, ever heard of FAZ??? We can even box, so take your madness somewhere else. Have ever asked what else they spend money on when doing voter registration? Think we chimuntu we, thinking is free man.
